INTRODUCTION

Welcome to this release of Windowed Modem Environment (WME)!

WME is the beginning of a totally new approach to BBS programs.
Instead of relying on text scrolling, lists, and normal menus,
WME uses the capabilities of the ANSI or Avatar driver. (VT-100 is also
directly supported, and future terminal expansion is also possible..)

A user on WME uses his cursor keys to move a menu bar to the option he wants.
Everything is given to him in a full-screen environment - 100% hotkeyed, so
that experienced users do not have to wait on the modem. You can create your
own menus, using over 100 menu commands. You can base security on levels,
flags, or groups.

The file section allows for true file-tagging - point to the file, toggle it,
and download. File ratios - on a per-person level. Each area is protected
by security level, flags, and group settings. External protocals are used,
so adding your own is a cinch!

Users have a lot of flexibility in message areas as well. An internal full
screen editor is used. The "Area" command only shows areas with unread
messages. (There is an optional "Goto" command that shows _all_ areas).
Users can create their own message base. Users can also have multiple
handles or aliases, with the appropriate alias being used in each base.
Personal mail scans will also catch mail to each of their aliases. The
current version of WME uses the Hudson Message Base format for wide
compatibility with echomail utilities such as FastEcho, Fmail, Gecho, Qecho,
and others.

All of the sysop utilities are built into the BBS - menu editor, user editor,
configuration, etc. Everything can be set up locally, or can be configured
from remote just as easily.

For help, you can either use the "WME" echo (on the net 203 backbone.. help
us put it on the national backbone!), or by calling..

 - ANSI/VT-100 support
 - Avatar/0 support for compression and better video effieciency
 - 100% hotkeyed - any time WME is updating video, it's ready
   for the user's key!
 - Video is sent on an "update" basis- WME never resends video to the
user unless the user needs it redrawn.
 - IEMSI for automatic logins by people with IEMSI terminals
   (FrontDoor, Communiqu, TeleMate, etc)
 - Automatic ANSI/Avatar/IEMSI negotiation with most terminals
 - Automatic screen hight negotiation with most terminals
 - Not just a full screen editor: its a full-screen environment!
 - Sysop definable menus allow up to 100 items per menu, with over 100
   commands
 - Background screens customizable with TheDraw and automaticly
converted to the video terminal provided by the user. No need
to find an Avatar editor. As other terminals are developed,
no editers will be needed for them either..
 - Maximum sysop flexibility
You make your own menus, your own screens, etc.
You can redefine any key to run any function; ie, make
F1 always bring up a help menu.
 - Remote sysops can edit the same things that local sysop can -
all configuration can be done on-line!

 - Menus and the Menu Editor
Can be up to 100 sysop definable options per menu
Can have from zero to two hotkeys per menu item
Over 100 commands to choose from
Menus have "key lookup" - if the user is in a menu,
type the first 1-2 characters will take the cursor straight
     to that menu line
Menus can be horizontal or vertical, and can scroll left/right
or up/down. They can also be auto-sized.
Menu editor is internal to the BBS environment - you can edit
menus from remote as easily as you can locally
Each menu, and each item in the menu, can have it's colors
     set individually.

 - User Editor
Multinode aware - if a user is currently online, editing their
user record immediately updates them on the node they are on.
No more "user is on another node, too bad!" messages.
Users can have their security based 3 different ways -
by level, by flag (32 flags, labeled A..Z and 1..6),
      and by group.
Users have privileges - you can tell WME to not allow certain
people to page you, and to allow some people to allow paging
you any time they want. You can also enable/disable
writting messages, writing echomail, creating areas,
      uploading, and downloading.
Users have their own space for a quote line, or a "tag line".
Sysops can keep notes in the user record on that particular record.
