Reading messages
----------------

After activating the message-read command, you will be first shown the
message in the base where your lastread pointer is set to. At the bottom of
the screen, a small prompt line will be shown which will give you the
following options:

Next - Attempt to go to the next message in the base. If possible, the
message pointer will be incremented to the next message in the
area. It will be displayed to you and the prompt line will once
          again be shown to you.

Prev - Attempt to go to the previous message in the area. If possible, the
message pointer will be decremented to the message preceding the
          one that you just read.

      # - Jump to message number. Don't actually type a number sign (#), just
type the number of the message you want to go to. If possible, the
message pointer will be set to that value.

Reply - This will allow you to enter a reply message to the message that you
are currently reading. For more information on entering messages,
please see the next help file.

All - This will cause EchoDor to start sending you each message without
pausing. You can use this function if you wish to "capture" the
messages for reading offline. If you wish to stop the sending
press ANY key and EchoDor will stop at the end of the current
          message.

Quit - Quit to message menu. This will bring you back to the main menu of
          the message system.

Kill - If the current message is either to or from you, then you will be
presented with the kill option. The kill option will physically
erase the message from disk. It will be no longer readable and
          CANNOT BE UN-KILLED.

Save - This command will capture the current message to a file called
USERMAIL.TXT you may download this file from the files area of
the bbs. You may also download a file called USERMAIL.ZIP. They
contain the same messages, but the ZIP file is much smaller. You
will need a UnArcing utility to access the messages in this file.

Change - If the current message is either to or from you, then you will also
be presented with this option. It will allow you to change the
          content of the current message.

Reading Threads
---------------

A thread is nothing more than a topic being discussed within a message
base. The topics are linked togeather forming a chain of messages. Because
a single message base may contain many threads the messages of one thread
may be mixed with the messages of another thread.

EchoDor provides three commands which will allow you to more easily read
threads within a message base.

+ - Read next message in thread. If the message your reading is part
of a thread and is not the last message in the thread, this
command will appear in your menu. By pressing the plus key (+),
EchoDor will skip to the next message in the thread.

Once you begin reading a thread, you can read the next message in
the thread by pressing the <enter> key. EchoDor will tell you
when you reach the last message in the thread. By pressing
<enter> key one more time, you will be returned to the message
where you pressed the plus (+) key.

      - - Read previous message in thread. If the message your reading is
part of a thread and is not the first message in the thread, this
command will appear in your menu. By pressing the minus key (-),
EchoDor will skip back to the previous message in the thread.

Once you being reading backward through a thread, you can read
the prior message in the thread by pressing the <enter> key.
EchoDor will tell you when you reach the first message in the
thread. By pressing the <enter> key one more time, you will be
returned to the message where you pressed the minus (-) key.

      * - Reposition to last read message. When you being reading a thread
by using the plus key (+) or minus key (-), EchoDor remembers the
place in the message base where you did this. By pressing the
asterisk key (*) you can immediately return to that message.
