High Speed, High Capability Modem with CCITT V.32bis

ATLANTA, GA, 24 June 1991 -- Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc.,
today announced V-series ULTRA Smartmodem 14400, a high speed, high
capability modem that implements the most advanced international and
industry standards with CCITT V.32bis for 14.4 Kbps line speed and CCITT
V.42bis for up to 38.4 Kbps throughput.

ULTRA 144 delivers unique connectivity to SNA, X.25 and ISDN
networks and supports virtually every modem communication application in
mainframe, workstation and personal computer environments. Customers
using ULTRA 144 receive the maximum 50 percent throughput improvement over
9600 bps in synchronous environments or when transferring compressed data
files. ULTRA 144's X.25 PAD supports four simultaneous communication
sessions to packet switched networks and provides transition to ISDN by
connecting analog modems to digital ISDN systems through packet switched
networks.

"CCITT V.32 has been around for seven years, and it's just now
replacing CCITT V.22bis, 2400 bps, as the business standard for high speed
modems," said Hayes President Dennis C. Hayes. "CCITT V.32bis is
leading-edge technology. ULTRA 144 is ideal for customers who always want
to be the "first" with new technologies and whose applications require
additional throughput."

ULTRA 144 also features Hayes AutoSync for synchronous
communications, MI/MIC for support of PABX and security systems, and CCITT
V.25bis for synchronous autodialing. The modem also provides backward
compatibility with MNP 2-5, Hayes Adaptive Data Compression, and LAPB
error-control to provide a migration path to CCITT V.42 and V.42bis. By
supporting Express 96, ULTRA 144 communicates with V-series Smartmodem
9600s, the world's largest installed base of proprietary 9600 bps modems.

ULTRA 144 will be available in North America in August 1991 for
an estimated retail price of US$1199 and CN$1699. For customers whose
applications require the increased line speed of 14.4 Kbps, Hayes offers
upgrades from ULTRA 96 to ULTRA 144 for US$275 and CN$330. For more
information, contact Hayes Customer Service in the U.S. at 404/441-1617
and in Canada at 416/283-2627.

Best known as the leader in microcomputer modems, Hayes develops,
supplies and supports computer communications equipment and software for
personal computer and computer communications networks. The company
