"In front of the television set!", she cried in that shrill,
unmistakably terrified female voice. Alex prowled down the hall with
a broom held in both hands across his chest. Master of his home, a
soldier clandestinely patrolling in the darkness.

"I need shoes!", he cried in a harsh whisper examining the area
around his feet for the enemy. As he crossed in front of the bedroom
door he could see Sylvia standing in her night robe on the bed,
teetering back and forth trying to keep her balance as though she
were a reluctant passenger on the high seas. Alex crept through the
house towards the room in question. The unmistakable flicker from
the television filled the hall.

"Is it possible for one to ambush me?", the thought raced through
his head as he entered the room. There he saw poised in front the
television set the intensely enamored small brown creature. The
rodent watched with an interest that was slightly unusual in such a
small animal. As the man on the screen told his tale of woe Alex
witnessed for the first time, a sobbing rat. His grip loosened on
his weapon as he stood in awe of the little animal. For a moment
Alex disappeared into the adjoining kitchen, only to return and
approach the minuscule beast.

They had a cold one.
