INSTRUCTIONS FOR DECEMBER 1990 DISK OF THE MONTH

NOTE: The following macros (files with the extension .WPM) must be copied
into the directory where your other macro files are kept. WARNING! If you
already have macros with the same name, you must rename the macros found on
this disk before they are copied onto your hard drive or your original macros
will be overwritten. Some of these files are styles (files with the extension
.STY). In 5.1, copy the style files into the directory specified in Setup
(Shift-F1), (6) Location of Files, (5) Style Files. In 5.0, copy the styles
files into your List Files (F5) directory. All other document files should be
copied onto your List Files (F5) directory.

Included on this disk are the following files that work in 5.1 and 5.0 where
specified:

MATH.DOC (5.1/5.0 document) - This is a sample math document containing math
operators for subtotals, totals, extra totals, grand totals,
multiplication and division. (See "It All Adds Up," December '90 p41.)

BIBLIO.STY (5.1/5.0 style) - This style formats a bibliography page. It
inserts a hard page break, single spacing, an 18-point font, the
bibliography title, then a 12-point font for the references. To use this
style, place your cursor at the desired location, press Style (Alt-F8),
     (7) Retrieve, type biblio.sty, press (Enter), highlight the style and
press (1) On/Select. The cursor will be in the correct location for the
first reference entry. Press Indent (F4), Margin Release (Shift-Tab)
before typing each entry, then separate the entries with two hard
returns. To edit the style, press Style (Alt-F8), (4) Edit, (4) Codes.
After making the desired changes, press Exit (F7) twice, (6) Save, type
biblio.sty, press (Enter) and answer (Y) Yes to replace. Exit (F7)
returns you to your document screen. (See "A+ For Style," December '90
     p67.)

ALT-B (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro sorts a bibliography that is prepared by
using Indent (F4), Margin Release (Shift-Tab) to create a hanging-indent
format. Each entry must be separated by two hard returns. To invoke the
macro, place the cursor before the [Indent] code at the beginning of the
first entry and press (Alt-B). (See "A+ For Style," December '90 p67.)

PAGE.STY (5.1/5.0 style) - This style formats a school paper. It includes a
footnote option, double-line spacing, 12-point font and a header
containing a flushed-right running head and page number. To use this
style, press Style (Alt-F8), (7) Retrieve, type page.sty and press
(Enter). The style must be edited for each particular document. Do this
by highlighting the style and pressing (4) Edit, (4) Codes. First, edit
the header by pressing Format (Shift-F8), (2) Page, (3) Headers, (1)
Header A, (5) Edit. Replace "Ethics" with your own desured heading. Make
sure ^B remains on the screen. Then, press (Home), (Home), (Down Arrow)
and (Left Arrow) once so [Ln Spacing: 2] is highlighted. Now, to the left
of the line spacing code, enter desired name and class information. Be
sure to type 1 for the page number. When finished, press Exit (F7) twice
     and (1) On/Select. (See "A+ For Style," December '90 p67.)

BILLING.PF (5.1 primary file) - This is a sample primary file. It contains
advance merge commands that tell the merge to access two secondary files.
The primary file directs the merge. It serves as the basic billing
document and brings in the correct fields from the two secondary files to
create a final notice. Your business may have one list of customers and
their addresses, and another list of these same customers who have
overdue payments. To merge, at a clear screen press Merge/Sort (Ctrl-F9),
     (1) Merge, type billing.pf, press (Enter), type billing.sf, and press
(Enter). When the merge is complete, you'll see a billing for each late
payment, listing the current balance. The text of this file can be
modified by retrieving BILLING.PF, making the desired changes, then
saving and replacing the file. (See "Multiple Merges," December, '90
     p61.)

BILLING.SF (5.1 secondary file) - This is one of two sample secondary merge
files to be merged with BILLING.PF. To merge this file, press Merge/Sort
     (Ctrl-F9), (1) Merge, type billing.pf, press (Enter), type billing.sf,
and press (Enter). Advance merge codes in the primary file tell the merge
to access the information in the second secondary file, BILLING.SF2. When
the merge is complete, you'll see a billing for each late payment,
listing the current balance. To modify this file to fit your billing
needs, retrieve BILLING.SF and following the same format existing in the
file, type information for the each customer and the current balance.
Save and replace the file and clear the screen. (See "Multiple Merges,"
     December, '90 p61.)

BILLING.SF2 (5.1 secondary file) - This is a sample secondary file. The
primary file, BILLING.PF, contains advance merge commands that tell the
merge to access this secondary file. This file can be modified by
retrieving BILLING.SF2 and entering each customer's name and address,
making sure you follow the same format shown in the article. Save and
replace the file and clear the screen. (See "Multiple Merges," December,
     '90 p61.)

QUOTES.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro creates typographic-style quotation
marks with opening and closing quotes. To invoke this macro, press Macro
(Alt-F10), type quotes and press (Enter). The quotes are positioned on
either side of the cursor. Type the quoted text between them. Press
(Right Arrow) when finished. Note: Because quotation marks are not part
of the normal displayable character set, on most monitors they appear as
small rectangles. (See "Typography Tips," December '90 p33.)

EMDASH.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro creates an em dash, a dash about the
length of the letter "M." This dash is used to punctuate a sentence. To
invoke this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type emdash and press (Enter).
Note: You'll need a proportionally spaced font, such as Dutch or Swiss,
to print this character. (See "Typography Tips," December '90 p33.)

ENDASH.WPM (5.0 5.1 macro) - This macro creates an en dash, a dash about the
length of the letter "N." This dash is used to specify ranges, such as
"pages 1215." To invoke this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type endash
and press (Enter). Note: You'll need a proportionally spaced font, such
as Dutch or Swiss, to print this character. (See "Typography Tips,"
     December '90 p33.)

MINUS.WPM (5.0 and 5.1 macro) - This macro creates a minus sign. The minus
sign is used in formulas, such as x + -5. To invoke this macro, press
Macro (Alt-F10), type minus and press (Enter). Note: You'll need a
proportionally spaced font, such as Dutch or Swiss, to print this
character. (See "Typography Tips," December '90 p33.)

R&DFORM.WP (5.1 primary file) - This primary file uses keyboard merge to
create a status sheet for research and development projects. At a clear
screen, press Merge/Sort (Ctrl-F9), (1) Merge, type r&dform.wp and press
(Enter) twice. Follow the prompts at the bottom of the screen. Press End
Field (F9) when done with each entry. When the form is filled out, press
(Alt-F) to invoke the macro. The macro saves your form under the filename
R&D.WP. If you already have an R&D.WP form, the macro replaces it with
the new file. You can also save and name the form in the usual way
without using the macro. (See "Blast Off with Keyboard Merge," December
     '90 p54.)

ALTF.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro saves the R&DFORM.WP primary file as R&D.WP.
Fill out R&DFORM.WP as described above and press (Alt-F) to invoke the
macro. (See "Blast Off with Keyboard Merge," December '90 p54.)

MAIL.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro creates a mailing list by copying the
names and addresses from a file of merged form letters and placing them
on the Document 2 screen. It only works on letters where the name and
address begin two lines after the date and end two lines before "Dear."
The date must be text, not a date code (Shift-F5, 2), and must contain
"1990." To invoke this macro, go to the top of the first letter, press
(Esc) and type the number of letters in the file, don't press (Enter).
Then, press Macro (Alt-F10), type mail and press (Enter). To edit the
macro, press Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), type mail, press (Enter) and press
     (2) Edit. In 5.0, press (2) Action. Press Exit (F7) once in 5.1 and twice
in 5.0. (See "Macro Man," December '90 p71.)

CODES.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro inserts merge codes into a mailing list
of names and addresses. It works only for a mailing list containing three
fields. To invoke this macro, go to the top of the file, press (Esc) and
type in the number of records in the file. Then, press Macro (Alt-F10),
type codes and press (Enter). (See "Macro Man," December '90 p71.)

EXIT.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro saves your document to any directory you
specify, then saves a backup copy to the A drive. When it backs up the
document, any file with the same name is replaced. This macro should be
used as a keyboard macro. Since it acts like Exit (F7), you might want to
remap the (F7) key. At a document screen, press Setup (Shift-F1), (5)
Keyboard Layout. If there is a keyboard marked with an asterisk, press
     (7) Edit. To create a new keyboard layout, press (4) Create, type Exit
and press (Enter). Press (7) Edit and (7) Retrieve. At the Key: prompt,
press Exit (F7). Type exit and press (Enter). The macro is retrieved and
mapped to your Exit (F7) key.
To backup to the B drive, press (1) Action. Place the cursor on the line
that reads: 8A:\{SYSTEM}name~{Enter}. Change the A:\ to B:\. Press Exit
(F7) twice to return to the Keyboard: Layout menu, then press (1) Select
and Exit (F7). Now, when you save a document using Exit (F7), the
document is backed up to the floppy you specified in the macro (A:\ is
the default). Like all keyboard macros, this function can be temporarily
turned off by pressing (Ctrl-6). (See "Prepare for the Coming Crash,"
     December '90 p48.)

ALTK.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro inserts the name of any function key on the
keyboard onto the document screen. To use this macro, press (Alt-K). When
the prompt Press key: displays, press a function key, such as (Shift-F7).
The phrase "Print (Shift-F7)" appears on the screen. Or, if you press
(Alt-K) and (F1), the macro inserts "Cancel (F1)" into your document.
(See "Name that Key," December '90, p17.)

INF.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro inserts an infinity sign into your
document. To use INF.WPM, place your cursor in the desired location in
your document, press Macro (Alt-F10), type inf, then press (Enter). (See
"Warp Speed for Science Writing," December '90, p26.)

ALTA.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro turns superscript on and off. To use
this macro, place your cursor in the desired location, then press (Alt-
A). (See "Warp Speed for Science Writing," December '90, p26.)

ALTZ.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro turns subscript on and off. To use this
macro, place your cursor in the desired location, then press (Alt-Z).
(See "Warp Speed for Science Writing," December '90, p26.)

LETHEAD.WP (5.1/5.0 form) - This document contains a letterhead stationery
form. It also contains a footer at the bottom of the page. It can be
modified to suit your own needs. Do this by retrieving the file, then
changing the name and address as desired. (See "Fast Fax Facts," December
     '90, p21.)

GRPHLTR.WP (5.1 or 5.0 form) - This document contains a graphics letterhead
stationery form. The graphic and text can be changed to suit your own
needs. Do this by retrieving the file, modifying the name and address,
and editing the User Box. Do this by pressing Graphics (Alt-F9), (4) User
Box, (2) Edit, type 1 and press (Enter). Make the desired changes and
press Exit (F7) to return to the document screen. (See "Fast Fax Facts,"
     December '90, p21.)

FAX.WP (5.1 form) - This document contains a fax form. The graphic and text
can be changed to suit your own needs. Do this by retrieving the file,
modifying the name and address and editing the User Box. Do this by
pressing Graphics (Alt-F9), (4) User Box, (2) Edit, type 1 and press
(Enter). Make the desired changes and press Exit (F7) to return to the
document screen. (See "Fast Fax Facts," December '90, p21.)

ALTM.WPM (5.1 macro) - Note: You need the 5.1 release of 8/20/90 or later to
use this macro. ALTM.WPM lists your macros, pauses for your selection and
executes the macro selected. It also allows you to see the description of
your macros before executing them. You'll need to change the "C:\MACROS"
on line one to that of your own macro directory. To use this macro, press
     (Alt-M). (See "TIPS," December '90 p77.)

GOTOPG.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro creates a footer that inserts "Go to Page
___" that refers to the next page of your document. This macro first
deletes any Footer B codes. Note: If you've already created a Footer B,
you may want to create a Footer A or block and append it to an existing
Footer A. To use this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type gotopg and press
(Enter). (See "TIPS," December '90 p77.)

HOME.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro remaps the (Home) key to use with (Ctrl-Pg
Dn) to delete the remainder of a document. To move this macro to a
keyboard layout, press Setup (Shift-F1) and (5) Keyboard Layout. Next,
press either (4) Create to create a new keyboard, or highlight an
existing keyboard and press (7) Edit. Press (7) Retrieve and at the Key:
prompt, press (Home). At the Macro: prompt, type home.wpm and press
(Enter). Press Exit (F7), (1) Select and press Exit (F7) to return to
your document screen. To delete the remainder of a document, place your
cursor in the desired position and press (Home), (Ctrl-Pg Dn). Note: The
(Home) key can be used normally with other keys unless (Ctrl-Pg Dn) is
also pressed. (See "TIPS," December '90 p77.)

MERGE.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro prompts you for the common name of your
merge files, such as LABEL.PRI and LABEL.SEC, and then merges the files
together. If the file name you typed can't be found, a bell sounds and
you're prompted again to type the merge file name. To use this macro,
press Macro (Alt-F10), type merge and press (Enter). (See "TIPS,"
     December '90 p77.)

PAUSE.WPM (5.1/5.0 macro) - This macro creates a simulated pause. Use it with
your own macros to replace the {PAUSE} command. It allows you to type any
amount of text, including (Enter), until you press Exit (F7) which ends
the "Pause." Insert these macro codes into your own macro. Press Macro
Define (Ctrl-F10), type the name of your macro and press (Enter). Delete
the {PAUSE} command and Macro Commands (Ctrl-Pg Up), highlight {NEST} and
press (Enter). Type pause~, press Exit (F7) once in 5.1 and twice in 5.0
to save the macro. (See "TIPS," December '90 p77.)

INDEX.WPM (5.1 macro) - When writing history and genealogy, often an every
name index is required. The problem is, names like Joe Smith need to be
indexed as either Smith, Joe or Smith as the primary heading and Joe as
the subheading. The index function requires either the first or last
names to be retyped. This macro performs this function. This macro
assigns the first name to variable 1 and the last name to variable 2.
Therefore, when you want the last name typed out, press (Alt-2), or
(Alt-1) for the first name. (See "Q&A," December '90 p13.)
