INSTRUCTIONS FOR NOVEMBER 1990 DISK OF THE MONTH

NOTE: The following macros (files with the extension .WPM) must be copied
into the directory where your other macro files are kept. See "Location of
Auxiliary Files" in the manual for more information. WARNING! If you already
have macros with the same name, you must rename the macros found on this disk
before they are copied onto your hard drive or your original macros will be
overwritten. Some of these files are styles (files with the extension .STY).
For 5.1, copy the style files into the directory specified in Setup (Shift-
F1), (6) Location of Files, (5) Style Files. For 5.0, copy the style files
into your List Files (F5) directory. All other document files should be copied
to your List Files (F5) directory.

Included on this disk are the following files that work for 5.0 and 5.1 where
specified:

Note: The following styles, CHAPTER.STY, TEXT.STY and QUOTE.STY can be
saved under one filename as a style library if desired. Do this by

Save, typing book.sty (or your choice) and pressing (Enter). To retrieve
the style library, press Style (Alt-F8), (7) Retrieve, type book.sty and

spreadsheet as explained above. The macro will complete the import or
link for you. (See "The Missing Link," November, '90 p82.)

ALTF.WPM (5.1 Macro) - In a normal search, lowercase letters match both
uppercase and lowercase, while uppercase match only uppercase. This means
you can't search specifically for words that don't have a capital letter.
By checking for capitalization in the search string, ALTF.WPM will allow
you to search specifically for words that don't have a capital letter. To
invoke this macro, move the cursor to the beginning of the text to be
searched and press (Alt-F). At the Find (def:______) prompt, type in the
desired word or character and press (Enter). If the search string is not
found, the macro displays the message, * No Match! *. (See "The Case of
the Failed Search," November '90 p17.)

MEMO.WPM (5.0 and 5.1 macro) - This macro formats a memo heading that
automatically puts in the date. It then uses Tab Align (Ctrl-F6) to align
the entries. The macro pauses after TO: and FROM:, so you can enter the
desired information. After typing in the appropriate information after
TO:, press (Enter) to move to FROM. Do the same after FROM: to move to
SUBJECT. To invoke this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type memo and

default Decimal/Align Character. To invoke the macro, press Macro (Alt-
F10), type align and press (Enter). The macro pauses while you type in
the new Decimal/Align Character. The macro returns you to your document
screen, and the Decimal/Align Character is changed until you clear the
screen. (See "Lining Things Up," November '90, p95.)

ALTT.WPM (5.0 and 5.1 macro) - This macro automatically changes normal tabs to
decimal tabs. To invoke this macro, press (Alt-T). (See "Lining Things
     Up," November '90, p95.)

ALTX.WPM (5.1 format) - This macro will take a word or phrase from your
document and append it to a list that can be retrieved at any time. To
add a frequently-used word to the list, place the cursor on that word and
press (Alt-X). To add a phrase to the list, Block (Alt-F4) the phrase and
press (Alt-X). To retrieve this list, use the ALTQ.WPM macro described
below. (See "Phrases For Your Fingertips," November '90, p66.)

ALTQ.WPM (5.1 format) - This is the companion macro to the ALTX.WPM macro
described above. When you press (Alt-Q), a box appears containing words
and phrases marked using the ALTX.WPM macro. To insert a word or phrase
into your document, press the number beside the word or phrase. It will
be inserted into your document at the cursor. This macro also has the
capability of storing a list and retrieving it for later use. To do this,
press (Alt-Q). To save a list, press Save (F10). To retrieve a list that
you have used before, press Retrieve (Shift-F10). (See "Phrases For Your
     Fingertips," November '90, p66.)

VARMEN.WPM (5.1 format) This macro allows you to create a list of
frequently-used words and phrases. They can then be inserted into your
document whenever you want. To add a word or phrase to the list, Block
(Alt-F4) the word or phrase, press Macro (Alt-F10), type varmen and press
(Enter). A list appears, displaying the letters (variables). Press one
of the letters, and your text is assigned to that variable. To insert
that text into a document, invoke VARMEN.WPM. The menu appears, showing
the contents of each of the variables A-J. To insert the text of a
variable into your document, press the appropriate letter. The text is
inserted at the cursor. (See the Side Bar to "Phrases For Your
     Fingertips," November '90, p66.)

CARD (5.1 file) - This file can only be printed on a postscript printer, or a
printer that supports rotatable fonts. This document consists of six
graphic boxes that create a greeting card. Each box can be edited to suit
your own needs. Because changes in each box is an individual decision,
steps for editing this document can't be included in this README file.
Please refer to the article for the needed information. (See "Say It From
     The Heart," November '90, p21.)

retrieve this file, press Retrieve (Shift-F10), type form and press
(Enter). Next, follow the example in the article to type in your own
text. Once items, quantities and prices are inserted, place your cursor
inside the second table and press Columns/Table (Alt-F7), (5) Math and
     (2) Calculate. Quantities and prices will be multiplied and the final
total inserted. (See "Putting Food On The Table," November '90, p76.)

SORT.PF (5.1 primary merge file) - This primary merge file merges with a
secondary file of names, addresses, ZIP codes, phone numbers and birth
dates to create a tabular list. To merge, press Merge Sort (Ctrl-F9), (1)
Merge and enter sort.pf as the primary file. Next, enter the name of your
secondary file. (See "Selective Sorting," October '90 p59.)

invokes the macro that you select. You may need to edit this file. To do
so, press (Home), Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), (Alt-M) and (Enter). Replace
c:\macro with your own macro directory. Press Exit (F7) to save the

document screen by pressing Exit (F7) once in 5.1 and twice in 5.0. To

menu. Delete the directories on lines 3 through 5 and replace them with
your own. Then on lines 11 through 13 replace the "C:\..." with the

document screen by pressing Exit (F7) once in 5.1 and twice in 5.0. To
use the macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type qd and press (Enter). (See

whenever needed by pressing (Alt-R). (See "Tips," November '90, p101.)

ALTL.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro selects your dot matrix printer and formats
your document for labels. First, create a label paper size form. To do
this, please refer to the article. Also, be sure the Document 2 screen is
clear before invoking this macro. To edit this macro, press (Home),
Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), (Alt-L) and (Enter). Delete the "Standard
Printer" on line 2 and replace it with your own dot matrix printer. When
finished, press Exit (F7) to save. To use this macro, press (Alt-L).
(See "Where Have All the Dot-Matrix Printer Gone?" November '90, p53.)
