INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUGUST 1990 DISK OF THE MONTH

NOTE: The following macros (files with the extension .WPM) must be copied
into the directory where your other macro files are kept. WARNING! If you
already have macros with the same name, you must rename the macros found on
this disk before they are copied onto your hard drive or your original macros
will be overwritten. Some of these files are styles (files with the extension
.STY). For 5.1, copy the style files into the directory specified in Setup
(Shift-F1), (6) Location of Files, (5) Style Files. For 5.0, copy the styles
files into your List Files (F5) directory. All other document files should be
copied to your List Files (F5) directory.

Included on this disk are the following files that work for 5.0 and 5.1 where
specified:

MAKESEC.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro retrieves MAKESEC.FIL, moves between
style codes and pauses for input. After the final input, it deletes all
the style codes and converts input text into secondary merge format,
which is then appended to SEC.FIL, a secondary file automatically created
by this macro. To invoke this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type makesec
and press (Enter). This macro creates one record for the secondary file.
However, you may invoke it as many times as necessary. (See "Prompting
     with Style," August '90, p51.)

MAKESEC.FIL (5.0/5.1) - This file contains a formatted prompt screen for
secondary merge input. It contains five styles, Header and FIELD 1
through FIELD 4, which provide the formatted prompt screen. Copy this
file and PRI.FIL into your default document directory. To use this file,
invoke MAKESEC.WPM. (See "Prompting with Style," August '90, p51.)

PRI.FIL (5.0/5.1) - This primary file is merged with SEC.FIL, a secondary file
created by MAKESEC.WPM. After merging, the employee's name, birth date
and home phone are placed on one line and the employee's comment on a
second line. Once you have placed the desired information in SEC.FIL via
MAKESEC.WPM, press Merge/Sort (Ctrl-F9), (1) Merge, at the Primary File:
prompt, type pri.fil and press (Enter). At the Secondary File: prompt,
type sec.fil and press (Enter). (See "Prompting with Style," August '90,
     p51.)

UPPER.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro changes a lowercase word to uppercase
by using the block and search features. To invoke the macro, place your
cursor on the first letter of the word you wish to uppercase, press Macro
(Alt-F10), type upper and press (Enter). (See "LA Law," August '90,
     p38.)

SUP.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro retrieves your supplementary dictionary,
then pauses while you add or delete words. When finished, press Exit (F7)
and the macro saves and replaces the file. Before using this macro, you
must insert your correct dictionary pathname. To do so, press Macro
Define (Ctrl-F10), type sup and press (Enter). In 5.0, press (2) Edit,
     (2) Action. In 5.1, press (2) Edit. Move the cursor to "f:\wp50."
Delete this pathname and type in your own. Move the cursor to
"wp{wp}us.sup" (supplementary dictionary name) and make any necessary
changes. When finished, press Exit (F7) twice in 5.0 and once in 5.1 to
save the changes and return to the document screen. To invoke this
macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type sup and press (Enter). Note: If
you're using WordPerfect on a network, you must have full rights to the
directory that your supplementary dictionary is in. (See "LA Law,"
     August '90, p38.)

DPO.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro retrieves the file DPO.WPD (a deposition
digest) and pauses and prompts you at each entry. Type in the appropriate
information and press (Enter). The cursor moves to the next entry.
After the information is entered, the document is saved to your default
directory under the name you typed at the first prompt. To use this
macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type dpo and press (Enter). (See "LA Law,"
     August '90, p38.)

DPO.WPD (5.0/5.1) - This file is a deposition digest form to be used with the
macro, DPO.WPM. The deposition digest is a summary of the information
relevant to an attorney's case. To fill in the information, invoke
DPO.WPM. The cursor pauses at the first entry while you type in a name
for the document. Fill in the appropriate information and press (Enter).
After pressing (Enter) at the final entry, the file is saved under the
name you typed at the first prompt. (See "LA Law," August '90, p38.)

AFFM51.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro creates an affidavit of mailing using two
other files: 1) a macro named with the signatory's initials that types
out his/her full name (you'll need to create this macro if you haven't
done so), and 2) a primary merge file (AFFM.PRI) containing the text and
merge codes for the affidavit. It prompts for the names of the documents
sent to the client for whom the affidavit is being created, as well as
the client's name, address and the signatory's initials. Note: Type the
document names separated by commas. Do not press (Enter) until all have
been typed. Also the Name and Address information should be typed on one
line. AFFM51.WPM then creates the affidavit of mailing. To use this
macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type affm51 and (Enter). (See "Macros for
     the Defense," August '90, p24.)

AFFM50.WPM (5.0 macro) - This is the 5.0 version of AFFM51.WPM (see above).
To invoke this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type affm50 and press
(Enter). (See Macros for the Defense," August '90, p24.)

AFFM.PRI (5.1 primary merge file) - This merge file is used by AFFM.WPM to
create an affidavit of mailing. It contains the text of the affidavit
and the merge codes for the name(s) of the documents sent to the client,
his/her name and address, the name of the signatory and a date code.
(See "Macros for the Defense," August '90, p24.)

AFFM50.PRI (5.0 primary merge file) - This is the 5.0 version of AFFM.PRI (see
above). (See "Macros for the Defense," August '90, p24.)

INT.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro creates a document with running
interrogatory numbers and paragraph numbers. The macro inserts a
heading, the necessary space for an answer and the heading for the next
interrogatory text. To complete the first interrogatory, invoke the
macro by pressing Macro (Alt-F10), typing int and pressing (Enter). (See
"Macros for the Defense," August '90, p24.)

RCAP.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro simplifies inserting captions in legal
documents. It prompts for a caption document name and a pleading title,
creates the caption, then creates a footer with the pleading title and
page number. To use this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type rcap, then
press (Enter). (See "Macros for the Defense," August '90, p24.)

GOTO.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro will Go To (Ctrl-Home) a specific page
number of a specific section in a document. This is useful if you have a
large document with many sections, with each section numbered
differently. To use this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type goto and
press (Enter). You'll first be prompted for the section you want to go
to, then the page number. (See "Q&A," August '90, p11.)

ALTB.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro invokes any named macro. This is
helpful when using a named macro repeatedly in a document. To use this
macro, assign the macro name to a variable. To do so, press Macro
Commands (Ctrl-PgUp), and at the Variable: prompt, type 0 (zero). In 5.1
press (Enter). At the Value: prompt, type the name of your macro and

     the Trade," August '90, p60.)

ALTS.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro temporarily changes your line spacing
between paragraphs. It inserts a 1.5" line spacing code, inserts (Enter)
once and then changes the spacing back to one. When you want to begin a
new paragraph, press (Alt-S). Note: Don't press (Enter) at the end of
the paragraph before pressing (Alt-S). (See "Tips of the Trade," August
     '90, p60.)

ALTC.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro saves you keystrokes when typing chemical
equations. To use this macro, press (Alt-C). While the chemistry macro
is active, follow these simple rules. To type normal letters (a-z, A-Z),
press the desired keys, with or without (Shift). The macro leaves
letters unmodified. To type subscript numbers, type the numbers. The
macro automatically converts all numbers to subscript unless otherwise
specified. To type superscript numbers, press (Ctrl-S) followed by the
desired number key. To type uninterpreted numbers or plus or minus
signs, press (Ctrl-V) and the desired number key or the plus or minus
key. To type a superscript plus (+) or minus (-), press the respective
keys. To insert the right arrow character (), press (Ctrl-A). To end
the macro, press (Enter) or Cancel (F1). You can use any edit key to edit
the chemical formula while the chemistry macro is active. To view the
chemical formula, press Print (Shift-F7), (6) View Document. Press Exit
(F7) to return to your document screen. (See "The Right Chemistry,"
     August '90, p15.)

KTON.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro converts any key to it's numeric value. To
use this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type kton and press (Enter).
You'll be prompted to type a key, then a prompt returns the numeric
value. (See "The Right Chemistry," August '90, p15.)

NAMETAG.PRI (5.1 Primary file) - This primary file is merged with NAMETAG.SEC
to create name tags. These name tags print on your laser or dot matrix
printer on plain paper. You then cut them to make individual 3" x 2" name
tags that will be inserted into reusable plastic badges. Before merging,
