                INSTRUCTIONS FOR JUNE 1990 DISK-OF-THE-MONTH

NOTE: The following macros must be copied into the directory where your other
macro files are kept. WARNING! If you already have macros with the same
name, you must rename the macros found on this disk before they are copied
onto your hard drive or your original macros will be overwritten. Some of
these files are Style files. For 5.1, copy the style files into the directory
specified in Setup (Shift-F1), (6) Location of Files, (5) Style Files. For
5.0, copy the styles files into your List Files (F5) directory.

Included on this disk are the following files which will work in 5.0 and 5.1
where specified:

ALTD.WPM (5.0/5.1 Macro) - This macro creates a degree symbol using the ASCII
code 248 then adds a space. To use this macro, place your cursor where
you want the degree symbol and press (Alt-D). (See "Tips of the Trade,"
     Jun '90, p62.)

ALTC.WPM (5.0 Macro) - To use this macro, you will first need to create a file
called WPCLIPBD.1. To do so, clear your screen then press Exit (F7), (Y)
Yes to save the file, type wpclipbd.1, press (Enter) and press (N) No to
exit WordPerfect. This macro will save any blocked text to a file
created by the macro, WPCLIPBD.2. It will then delete WPCLIPBD.1 and
rename WPCLIPBD.2 to WPCLIPBD.1. The macro ALTV.WPM (see below) will
retrieve WPCLIPBD.1. To use this macro, Block (F4) the desired text and
press (Alt-C). Note: This macro won't work inside headers, footers,
footnotes, etc. (anywhere List Files is disabled). (See "Tips of the
     Trade," Jun '90, p62.)

ALTV.WPM (5.0 Macro) - This macro retrieves the file WPCLIPBD.1 for viewing
or editing. The cursor will be at the end of the text. To use this
macro, press (Alt-V). (See "Tips of the Trade," Jun '90, p62.)

SWITCH.WPM (5.0 Macro) - This macro will check your second document screen and
then prompt you if it is in use. Append this macro to the beginning of
your screen-switching macros (i.e., addressing envelopes). To edit this
macro, press Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), type switch, select (2) Edit and
     (2) Action. Your screen-switching macro would then be placed after
{LABEL}proceed~. After making the desired changes, press Exit (F7) twice
to save the macro. To use this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type switch
and press (Enter). (See "Tips of the Trade," Jun '90, p62.)

ALTS.WPM (5.0/5.1 Macro) - This macro will scroll 12 lines down your screen
then 12 lines up. When your text and cursor are lower on the screen than
desired, this macro will instantly relocate them higher on the screen. To
use this macro press (Alt-S). Note: The screen will scroll only if there
is text on it. (See "Q&A," Jun '90, p13.)

FLASHCRD.PRI (5.1 Primary File) - This primary file is a quizzing program that
works like a stack of flash cards. The "Cards" come in the form of a
secondary file which should be formatted like the file FLASHCRD.SEC. To
use this file, press Merge/Sort (Ctrl-F9), (1) Merge, type flashcrd.pri
and press (Enter). Type the name of your secondary file and press
(Enter). You'll be given the option of being quizzed from English or a
secondary language. Depending on the answer, the merge will give you an
English word to translate into its foreign equivalent, or a foreign word
to translate into its English equivalent. The merge will keep track of
wrong answers and review them until all answers are correct. Press Cancel
(F1) at any time to end the quiz. (See "Electronic Flash Cards," Jun
     '90, p32.)

FLASHCRD.SEC (5.1 Sample Secondary File) - This file contains a sample of
"Cards" for a flash card merge. Set up your secondary file following
this format, and merge it with FLASHCRD.PRI following the instructions
above. (See "Electronic Flash Cards," Jun '90, p32.)

DEADKEY.WPK (5.0/5.1 Keyboard) - This keyboard is for entering foreign
characters. This keyboard takes the concept of the "dead key" from old
multilingual keyboards. When this keyboard is activated, pressing any of
the mapped keys initiates a macro that will prompt you to type in a
character, then the macro adds the appropriate accented (or other)
character. To view the list of mapped keys, press Setup (Shift-F1), (K)
Keyboard Layout, (E) Edit. To edit the DEADKEY.WPK, at the Keyboard:
Edit screen, highlight the desired key then in 5.0 press (E) Edit and (2)
Action. In 5.1 press (A) Action. Make the necessary changes and press
Exit (F7) until you're at Setup: Keyboard Layout. To activate this
keyboard layout, highlight DEADKEY and press (S) Select. Press Exit (F7).
(See Tables 1 and 2 in "WordPerfect In Dairyland," Jun '90, p42.)

NEWS.STY (5.0/5.1 Style) - These styles contain headings, subheadings, pull-
quotes and a masthead for creating a newsletter. To use the styles in a
document, position your cursor where you want the masthead to begin.
Press Style (Alt-F8), (7) Retrieve, type news.sty and press (Enter).
Highlight "Masthead" and press (1) On. You can see how the masthead will
print by pressing Print (Shift-F7), (6) View Document. You can place
headings, subheading, or pull-quotes wherever you wish by pressing Style
(Alt-F8), highlighting the appropriate style and pressing (1) On. To
turn these paired styles off, press (Enter) after typing your heading.
To edit the styles, press Style (Alt-F8), highlight the desired style,
press (4) Edit, (4) Codes and make the desired changes. To make the
changes permanent, save and replace the style list before leaving the
style menu. (See "Newsletters With Style," Jun '90, p47.)

The following file is to be used in DataPerfect.

CONTACT.STR (Structure file) - This file helps you keep track of individual
conversations with your business contacts. Copy CONTACT.STR into your
default database directory. (If you already have a copy of the Contact
Database from last month, copy this file to a different directory.) Start
DataPerfect and select the CONTACT database. First, the program will
tell you that it can't find the Text (*.TXX) file. Press (1) to re-
create it. Repeat this process for the Index (*.IND) file. CONTACT.STR
is now ready to use. Further updates to this database will be available
on the July Disk of the Month. (See "Doing Business With DataPerfect Part
     II," Jun '90, page 39.)

The following file is to be used in PlanPerfect

GRADES.PLN (PlanPerfect Spreadsheet) - Copy this file to your default
worksheet directory. Load the file normally within PlanPerfect. Adjust
the grading scale in cells V1 through W13. Customize the student names
and data according to your needs. (See "Gradebook Manager," Jun '90,
     page 29.)

The following is to be used with WordPerfect Office/Library 2.0:

ALTSHFTX.SHM (Office/Library shell macro) - Copy this file to the directory
containing your SHELL.EXE program. This macro has been tested in Shell
version 2.0. It is not compatible with Shell 3.0. It also assumes that
Notebook is assigned the letter "N" on your Shell menu, WordPerfect 5.1
is assigned the letter "W," and that your primary merge file is in your
default directory and is named MAIL.MRG. If any of these assumptions are
false for your system, edit the macro with Office/Library's macro editor.
(See "Break Down The Barriers," Jun '90, page 15.)
