TIP OF THE WEEK 4/12/91

Create a personalized letterhead in GeoWrite to give your letters a professional look and feel. Whether you're writing a business letter or just a personal note, your name and address centered at the top of the page can be a very nice looking addition.

From the top of the GeoWrite page, hit PgUp (the page up key) so that the header box above the page is showing. Point your mouse within the header area near the top and click the left button. This will position your cursor so you can enter your letterhead.

Before you start typing, you should select a font and a size for your letterhead. I like to select a size just slightly larger than I will use for the text of my letter. I also like to pick a different font so the letterhead stands out and had that "preprinted stationary" look. You select the size by mouse clikcing on SIZES and clicking on the one you want. You select the font by mouse clicking FONTS then the one you want. My favorite font for letterheads is Shattuck Avenue as it lends an elegant and formal touch to my work.

You will probably want your letterhead tp be centered so hit CTRL-C. (This means hold down the control key while typing C). Type the first line. When finished, hit return. Hit CTRL-C again to center the next line and enter your text. Repeat the process until your letterhead is complete. When finished, you can return to the text of your letter by positioning your mouse pointer anywhere in the GeoWrite page and clicking the left button.

You may wish to use a different letterhead for each type of letter you write. For personal letters, I like the following formats:
PERSONAL LETTERS:
Name
Street Address
City, State, Zip

BUSINESS LETTERS:
Name
Company name
Street Address
City, State, Zip+4

After you have created some letterheads that you are happy with, you may wish to save them for future use. Once you have entered a letterhead, it will appear at the start of each page unless you delete it.

Special Note: With some printers (eg: Deskjet, Cannon BJ130) the header at the top of the page is cut off. If you find this happens with your printer, just set the top margin to 2 inches and try again. This time your letterhead should print.
Good luck!
