            Introduction

ROLOSET is a program for organizing business and personal contact

information, and for printing out labels and cards to allow

            access to this information.

ROLOSET has many features not found in similar programs,

            including:

                 * The ability to print three sizes of labels in four

                    different formats.

                 *  Multiple contact lists! (1).

                 * An unlimited number of names/address in each contact

                    list! (2).

                 * Flexible list ordering! View ROLOSET data in several

different orders, including Company Name, Company

President, Company Phone, Contact Name, or a unique ID #.

                 * Flexible searching! Find information using any of the

above methods. Search Company Name, Company President,

Company Phone, Contact Name or Unique ID #.

                 * Powerful Help! ROLOSET provides contact sensitive help,

and allows you to change help text so that it makes sense

                    to YOU.

                 * Powerful Printing! ROLOSET allows you to update labels

and printout just those you want. Very useful for HP

Laserjet sheet-label printing. ROLOSET also allows you

to print selective sheet labels! You've already used the

first four labels on a sheet, and also three from the

middle? NO PROBLEM! ROLOSET CAN DO!

            (1) Only one ROLOSET List may be used in the Demonstration

version. Registration enables UNLIMITED ROLOSET Lists.

            (2) The number of names/address is only limited by disk space.

Approximately thirty thousand names can be stored on a 20

                 megabyte hard drive.

            Introduction 3

            System Requirements

ROLOSET requires an IBM PC compatible system with 512k RAM. An

EPSON or HP LASERJET compatible printer is required to print

            labels.

            Installation

ROLOSET is distributed as a self extracting archive. To install

ROLOSET on your machine, follow these steps:

            1. Make a directory on your hard drive to store the roloset

files. And move into that directory.

               C:\>MD \ROLOSET

               C:\>CD \ROLOSET

            2. If the ROLOSET distribution archive (ROLO.EXE) is on your A:

               drive, do the following:

               C:\ROLOSET>A:ROLO

            3. Several files will be installed on your hard drive in the

directory you've created. To run the ROLOSET program just

               type ROLOSET.

               C:\ROLOSET>ROLOSET

            4. The ROLOSET program will load and you will be asked to enter

your company name and registration number. Just press <ENTER>

for both of these fields. When you register the program these

               two fields will not appear.

            5. Press ALT-A to add a new ROLOSET list. Enter the name you

would like to call the list and press <ENTER>. Keep in mind

that the demonstration version of ROLOSET only allows you to

enter twenty (20) names and address in one ROLOSET list. Once

you've registered ROLOSET, you'll be able to add additional

records to this first list, and you will NOT lose any

information you enter into the demonstration version.

            6. Ok, you're on. Now just press <ENTER> to start entering

               records into the ROLOSET program!

            Start Up Parameters

When you run the ROLOSET program you may specify several

parameters on the command line to give ROLOSET more information

about your system setup. It is not neccessary to use these

parameters in most cases (unless you wish to use a printer port

other than LPT1), but they do provide additional features to the

ROLOSET program, and are worth taking a look at.

            Requirements/Installation 4

            The command line format is:

            ROLOSET [H|E [soft-font name [lpt1|lpt2]]]

If you type anything but an H or E for the first parameter,

ROLOSET will display a brief summary of the command line

            parameters for you.

The first command line parameter is either "H" for HP Laserjet or

"E" for and Epson compatible printer. If you use either H or E

on the command line, ROLOSET won't ask you what kind of printer

you have when you are printing labels.

The second parameter only applies to HP Laserjet type printers,

and specifies the soft-font file you wish to use to print labels

from. ROLOSET includes six sample soft fonts you may wish to

sample if you have an HP Laserjet printer. They are:

                 HLV08I0.SFP 8 Point Helvetica Italic

                 HLV08R0.SFP 8 Point Helvetica Normal

                 PAL10I.SFP 10 Point Palatino Italic

                 PAL10N.SFP 10 Point Palatino Normal

                 RCK08I0.SFP 8 Point Rockland Italic

                 RCK08R0.SFP 8 Point Rockland Normal

For HP Laserjet users, ROLOSET includes two sample batch files

that show how to use the soft font command line parameters.

HPSMLLBL.BAT selects 8 point helvetica, and HPLRGLBL.BAT selects

            10 point palatino.

The third parameter specifies the printer port. If you don't

want ROLOSET to use the default of LPT1, select the appropriate

printer port here (either LPT1 or LPT2).

            Examples:

            C:\ROLOSET>ROLOSET h

Would automatically select HP Laserjet support, thereby allowing

you to bypass all printer-selection menus from within the ROLOSET

            program.

            C:\ROLOSET>ROLOSET h pal10I.sfp lpt2

Would select HP Laserjet support using the Palatino 10 point

italic font on printer port LPT2.

            Requirements/Installation 5

            Using ROLOSET!

You'll find that the ROLOSET program is very easy to use, and

will provide you with an invaluable utility to track contacts,

            clients, and businesses.

When you run ROLOSET you'll be presented with reminder to

register your copy and a prompt to enter your Company Name and

Registration number. When you register you'll be given this

information, and you can enter it here to instantly enable

ROLOSET's enhanced features (unlimited ROLOSET lists and

unlimited ROLOSET entries in each list). Once you've registered

ROLOSET you won't be asked to enter this information, and the

            reminder screen will not appear.

For now, just press <ENTER> for both of these fields.

You should now be at the ROLOSET list selection menu. The list

that you added when you installed the system should be

highlighted (What? You didn't install any list? Please read the

            Installation instructions again).

Press <ENTER> to go the ROLOSET entry screen for your list. On

the screen you'll see all the information ROLOSET stores for each

label you store. You might not want to enter all of this

information for each item, but it's there if you need it.

            Currently, ROLOSET stores:

            Company Name

            Company President

            Contact Name (Last and First)

            Contact Title

            Company Phone

            Company Fax Line

            Company Address (2 line)

            Company City

            Company State

            Company Zip Code (9 digit)

            Contact Address (2 lines)

            Contact City

            Contact State

            Contact Zip Code (9 digit)

            Contact Phone

            Contact Spouse Name

When you print labels (to be placed on standard cardfile index

cards) you can specify four different formats which use the some

or all of the above information.

Imagine having all the information on those penned-in, scratched-

out cardfile cards in an easily updatable format. Print a new

label for a card in a second and easily place it over the

            previous label on the card.

            Using ROLOSET 6

            Entering Records:

To enter a new record, just press the A key (or use the cursor

keys to highlight the ADD menu option and press <ENTER>). The

computer's cursor will move to the company name field. Enter the

information for each item you want. Press <ENTER> to move from

field to field. Press <ENTER> on the last field (Contact Spouse

Name) to finish entering the record.

That's all there is to entering new contacts.

While entering records you can use the left and right arrow keys

to move with the current field, and the up and down arrow keys to

move to the next and previous fields. Pressing the Page down key

(PgDn) will complete entry for the current record without

actually going to the last field and pressing <ENTER>. For

instance, if you don't want to enter any of the extra contact

information you could just press the Page down key after you've

entered the company zip code to skip all the remaining fields.

            Editing Records:

If you want to edit the record that's currently being displayed,

press the E key (or use the arrow keys to highlight the EDIT

option and press <ENTER>). You'll be placed on the Company name

field. Change whatever information you want and exit by pressing

<ENTER> on the last field, or by pressing the Page down key.

            Deleting Records:

To remove a record from this roloset list, press the D key (or

use the arrow keys to highlight the DELETE option and press

<ENTER>). A message saying "Deleted" will appear in the lower

right corner of the screen. If you press the DELETE option again

this message will disappear (The delete option toggles the

            "deleted" status of the record).

To actually remove these records from your database you must PACK

the database. This is a safety feature that will prevent you

from accidentally deleting records. See "Packing a List" for

more information on permanently removing records.

            Searching for a Record:

This is one of ROLOSET's more powerful feature. Using the Search

option you can search on one of five different fields allowing

easy instantaneous access to ROLOSET information.

Press the S key (or use the arrow keys to highlight the SEARCH

option and press <ENTER>). A popup menu will appear allowing you

to select the field you wish to search on. Use the arrow keys to

move up and down through this list, and press <ENTER> on the

field you would like to search on.

            Using ROLOSET 7

ROLOSET will then ask you to enter a value to search for.

ROLOSET's searches are not "case sensitive", so "USA Today" will

match "USA TODAY" or "usa toDaY". Enter the value you wish to

            search and press <ENTER>.

If ROLOSET finds the record you're looking for it immediately

moves you there. If not, the message "Specified Value Not Found"

            is shown.

            Changing the View Order:

ROLOSET allows you to view your lists in five different ways. To

change the order you view your data in, press the V key (or use

the arrow keys to highlight the VIEW option and press <ENTER>).

A popup menu will appear allowing you to select the field you

wish your list to be ordered on. Use the arrow keys to move up

and down through this list, and press <ENTER> on the field you

            want.

ROLOSET will instantly change the order to the one you've

requested. Pressing the NEXT and PREVious menu options will

allow you to browse through the database in the new order. The

FIRST and LAST menu options will instantly move you to the first

and last records in the database.

            Printing With ROLOSET

ROLOSET allows you to print three label styles for the HP

Laserjet printer, and two label styles for Epson compatible

            printers at the present time.

The HP Laserjet styles supported are:

                      2.75" x 1" (three labels across)

                      4" x 1.5" (two labels across)

                      4.25" x 2" (two labels across)

            The Epson styles supported are:

                      4" x 2.25"

                      5" x 3"

All Epson styles are printed one-up (one label across).

The first step to printing is to load the appropriate labels into

your printer. We recommend Avery Laser Labels for HP Laserjets

            (Style #5160 and 5260 for 2.75" x 1", Style #5162 and 5262 for 4"

            x 1.5", and Style # 5163 for 4.25" x 2" labels).

If you wish to print a single label, move to the position you

want in your ROLOSET database using either the Next/Previous

commands, or searching (follow the instructions under "Searching

            for a Record").

Press either Ctrl-P or Alt-P to pull up the Print Menu. On the

menu there are two choices. You may either print the currently

selected record by choosing the "Displayed Card Only" option, or

you can select several labels to print simultaneously by using

            the "Select from List" option.

You will then be presented with four different label formats to

            use for printing:

                 Business Info Phone Card

                 Business Info Mailing Label

                 Home Info Phone Card

                 Home Info Mailing Label

The phone card options (business and home) print a standard

information label which can be affixed to an index card and

stored for retrieval in a card file. The mailing label options

print standard in a standard mailing label format. ROLOSET

provides an easy way to send correspondence to people on your

database, at home or at work!

If you've chosen to select labels form a list, you will be shown

a listing of all records in your ROLOSET database. Records that

are to be printed are marked with a check under the "S" column.

You can use the F10 function key to select a record for printing

or to unselect a record that's already been selected.

            Printing with ROLOSET 9

NOTE: ROLOSET automatically selects ALL records for printing

that have changed since the last time you've printed, so

you can simply change several ROLOSET cards and

automatically print them. This can be a real time saver

once you start using the ROLOSET program extensively.

Once you've selected the label type, ROLOSET will ask you what

sort of printer you wish use for output. Select either the HP

Laserjet or the Epson Compatible printer option depending on

which printer is attached to your computer.

If you specified the printer type on the command line (H for the

HP Laserjet or E for an Epson compatible printer) this step will

            be skipped.

Next, a menu of label sizes will be presented to you. Select the

size label you have loaded and press <ENTER>.

            HP Laserjet Users Only:

If you are using an HP Laserjet, a representation of the

label sheet you've selected will appear on your screen.

This screen allows you to specify which labels have already

been used on this sheet, so that you may print out a few

                 labels at a time.

Each "label" on the screen is marked by an entry field

called "Used". When you enter the screen, all of the

"Used:" entries have a "N" next to them. This means that

you have a full sheet of labels. If you've used labels on

the sheet you're about to feed through the printer, type a

"Y" next to each label that has been used. Press <ENTER> to

skip through other labels. Pressing <ENTER> at the last

label lets you exit the screen and begin printing.

PLEASE NOTE, though, that the HP Laserjet will only produce

quality print the first few times you use a sheet of labels,

so we recommend that you print several labels at a time

                 (ideally an entire sheet's worth).

ROLOSET will start printing your label(s) now. When ROLOSET

finishes printing it will return to the normal entry screen,

where you can enter, search, or print again.

Removing Deleted Records from your ROLOSET lists:

When you ask ROLOSET to delete an information record, what it

actually does is "tag" that record for deletion. This allows you

to change your mind about deleting records until you "Pack" the

ROLOSET database, which PERMANENTLY removes records.

When you delete records using ROLOSET you'll see the word

"DELETED" appear in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

If you press the delete key again for the record, the "DELETED"

word will disappear. Only records that are marked by "DELETED"

will be removed when you pack your database.

            Packing Your Database:

Each list you create with ROLOSET (one list for the unregistered

version, unlimited lists for the registered version) can be

packed individually. Packing removes deleted records from the

database permanently. From the database selection menu, move the

highlight bar over the list you wish to Pack, and press the F8

function key to pack the database. ROLOSET will inform you that

it's in the process of packing the database, and a few seconds

later the database selection screen will reappear. At this point

you can press <ENTER> to view the database and confirm that the

records you wanted to remove were removed.

            Deleting a Database.

If you wish to permanently remove an ENTIRE LIST from the ROLOSET

system, select the list from the database selection menu and

            press the F7 function key.

ROLOSET will ask you confirm deleting the set, since ALL DATA IN

THE SET WILL BE LOST FOREVER. Press <ENTER> to confirm the

deletion, or <ESC> to abort. When you press <ENTER>, ROLOSET

will remove the list from the selection menu. If you wish to add

a new list, use the Alt-A option.
