KBBS notes:

Ahhh June is here. And with it brings more new boards to the Kitsap
County area. About this time each year I usually see the fruits of the
income tax returns in the form of new boards. All those new computer systems
and some decide to start a board. Some BBS's reduced the number of incoming
lines, some increased. I continue to see a strong trend toward contributing
and subscription access on systems as well. Sysops continue to spend more
to upgrade their respective systems, and hope to recoupe a small portion of
it from callers. Hopefully as users you will help your favorite system to
continue to grow and improve.
Another computer show begins in July, hope to see many of you there in
Kent. I sure there will be more good deals to be made there.
On the Internet issue, it seems that Connected, Inc. has repaired the modems
causing the connect problems, and 5 additional lines are on the way. I don't
expect to see them in service until early July, but that should help relieve
some of the busy signals. Extensive help files are always available on my
system, and I welcome comments on how Connected, Inc's services are doing for
you. I am in contact with Kirk Moore, the system administrator weekly, so if
you have a problem reaching him, I can always relay your specific concerns.
I am in the process of starting an Internet echo specific to Connected
Inc's services that will encompass problems, questions and any conversation
related to using the Internet. If this echo produces a strong following, I
may look into the possibility of extending the echo to the Seattle/Everett
area where Connected is also used. This would be a Fidonet message area. I
encourage users and sysops to comment on this subject, the BREM-AIRE echo
would be an appropriate message area to do this versus calling my system to
leave me mail, since it can be difficult to reach my system due to the amount
of calls I receive per day. More to come on this, but your favorite sysop
should have additional information on this once I have set the echo up via
our hub (as long as your sysop carries FidoNet).
In other news... Sysops may have noticed I now distribute the KBBS archive
with TICK. Hopefully this will assist you in automating uploading the list
instead of manually doing it each month. The file area is called "KBBS",
(big surprise huh?) and all Fidonet compatiable systems will receive the
archive this way from now on. If you don't use TICK, you can give it a try,
or simply delete the .TIC file distributed with the list. I'd like to thank
Lee Moberg, sysop of Noobdez perfect for coming up with the idea and helping
me setup TICK to distribute files, your thanks should go to him.
On another note, I will be moving within the next 2 months to Port Orchard.
Yes, system and all. So of course the phone number will change, and hopefully
it will be a painless as possible. It won't change my callers, since North
Kitsap users were already long distance and will continue to be (although I
seem to get a lot of calls from there anyway, hmm, go figure). I had hoped
to move into a 613 prefix area so that I was not long distance for anyone, but
that idea fell through.
Well, it seems I have gotten a bit wordy this month, so I'll close here by
saying again... if you have a subject you would like to see discussed or
explained in this editorial, please let me know. Something local in nature
would be preferrable. This is also extended to sysops, I have included an
extra file from time to time from local sysops on various subjects.
  Happy modeming!
