Hamilton-Area Woman
-------------------

So much beach here.
Spreading its legs,
opened its thighs
to the lake. She
lifted her skirt
and let the ice floes
dig, clutch, maul
trace their gigantic fingers on her thighs,

Come spring the blue hem of the lake's skirt
will once again cover the scars on
her thighs, swallow the driftwood and broken
glass.

It has been a cold winter.
On this last day,
snow like wisps of Ariadne's web
tumble like disturbing memories
over the hard packed
beach.

over her beaten legs.
