AB This review discusses the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of
direct human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) brain infection as well as
other common opportunistic infections and neoplasms in the acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) population. MRI utilizing T2-weighted
images is an ideal method for screening. Gadolinium (Gd) should be
administered to further characterize positive or questionable studies or
       when meningeal disease is suspected.
