AB Objective: To evaluate whether G-CSF and CHOP treatment in HIV-1
infected patients with high-grade NHL allows a better adherence to the
therapeutic schedule as compared to patients treated with CHOP alone.
Methods: We evaluated retrospectively 6 patients treated with CHOP
compared with 8 patients treated with CHOP associated with G-CSF (5
g/kg/day sc from 8th to 21st day of each cycle). In each group, we
evaluated the number of cycles, the pauses between cycles, the necessity
of drug dosage reduction, the degree of leukopenia at nadir, the
duration of neutropenia (ANC less than 1000/mm3), the days of fever and
the number of infectious episodes. Results are presented in a table.
Conclusions: These preliminary data show that the patients treated with
the association of G-CSF and chemotherapy withstand a greater number of
cycles of therapy, at full doses and regular pauses, experiencing a
reduction of the days of neutropenia, fever and infectious episodes.
