Perfect Post

The `perfect' way to speed up your address input in Word Perfect. All
you need to input is the U.S. Zip Code, or the Canadian Postal Code,
and the town and state or province is generated automatically. As a
bonus the Perfect macro also sets your Canadian Postal Code to capitals.

Installation

You may have received this on a floppy disk, or by modem from a BBS,
but once you have the files the installation procedure is similar
whatever happens. You will need to know a little about how to handle
files in MSDOS, but nothing significant or complicated.

The default macro key used is ALT-Z for Zip code. The default drive
is C:. The default directory for the macros is C:\WP51\MACROS. If
these are your setting you only need to copy the files to your macros
directory, then you can access them from Word Perfect. If these are
not your settings you will need to adjust the files once you have them
loaded to your Macros directory.

Copying From A .ZIP File Downloaded From A BBS.

1. Select the Word Perfect drive, E.G.

   C:[ENTER]

2. Switch to your Word Perfect Macros directory, E.G.

   CD \WP51\MACROS[ENTER]

3. Unpack the .ZIP file to this directory, E.G.

   PKUNZIP PERFPOST[ENTER]

(You may need to add a path name before `PKUNZIP' and/or `PERFPOST'
depending on where your files are located. E.G.

   \UTILS\PKUNZIP \DOWNLOAD\PERFPOST[ENTER] )

4. Switch back to your default directory, E.G.

   CD \[ENTER]

5. Start WordPerfect as normal. You can call up Perfect Post by using
the keys [ALT]Z for macro `Z' for `Zip Code'.

Copying From A Floppy Disk

1. Select the Word Perfect drive, E.G.

   C:[ENTER]

2. Switch to your Word Perfect Macros directory, E.G.

   CD \WP51\MACROS[ENTER]

3. Copy the files to this directory, E.G.

   COPY A:*.*[ENTER]

(You may need to use B: instead of A: if you are using floppy drive B:.)

4. Switch back to your default directory, E.G.

   CD \[ENTER]

5. Start WordPerfect as normal. You can call up Perfect Post by using
the keys [ALT]Z for macro `Z' for `Zip Code'.

If Your Word Perfect Drive And/Or Macros Directory Are Not The Same As
The Default

1. Install the files as shown above, but to the correct drive and directory.
2. Start Word Perfect.
3. Select to modify the Macro by pressing [CTRL][F10]
4. When the response is given `Define macro: ' respond by pressing [ALT]Z
5. The response is given:
      `ALTZ.WPM Already exists: 1 Replace; 2 Edit; 3 Description: 0'
   reply with `E' for `edit' or `2'.
6. The macro is displayed. There are four places where the macro directory
is listed. Change these path names, then save the macro with [F7]. Be
careful not to change anything else. If you make a mistake copy the
   files over again, and restart.
7. You can now call up Perfect Post by using the keys [ALT]Z for macro `Z'
   for `Zip Code'.

If You Wish To Use A Different `Hot-Key' Than [ALT]Z.

1. From MSDOS, switch to your WordPerfect macros directory.
2. Assume you want to use [ALT]P for Postal Code instead of ALT[Z] for
Zip Code. If you want to use a different letter substitute the
following commands with that letter instead.
3. From the MSDOS prompt type:
      REN ALTZ.* ALTP.*[ENTER]
4. Start Word Perfect.
5. You can now call up Perfect Post by using the keys [ALT]P for macro
`P' for `Postal Code' (or whatever other letter you used).

Using The Macro

1. Type the first part of the address, e.g. Name and Street.
2. Put the cursor in the place that you wish the town, State/Province,
and Zip/ Postal code to appear.
3. Call up the macro with the hot key, E.G. [ALT]Z
4. Type in the Zip Code or Postal Code. U.S. zip codes are 5 or 9 digits
long. 9 digit zip codes contain a dash or comma between the fifth and
sixth digit, e.g. 14202 - 4432. Note that Canadian Postal Codes have
   the format A9A [SPACE] 9A9 where A is a letter A-Z (or a-z) and 9 is a
digit 0-9. Note the space between the first three characters and the
   last three characters.
5. Perfect Post will look up the town and State or Province for you, and
   insert it into your document.
6. If the town is not on file, this could be because it is not an urban
town, or it is outside the shareware version of the data file. Just
type in the city and State/ Province as normal. The Zip/ Postal Code
   will print anyway.
7. Sometimes some towns are known by more than one name. You will probably
want to use the name that your addressee is using, particularly if the
addressee is a customer or prospective customer. Just retype the town
   and State/ Province.
8. In either case, point 6 or 7, you have not lost any time keying in the
Zip/ Postal Code since they will print out anyway, and all you have to
do is type the town and State/ Province, which you were doing before
   using Perfect Post.

You may want the Zip/ Postal code on the same line as the town and State/
Province. Just make sure there is NO blank line AFTER the position of the
cursor.

You may want the Zip/ Postal code on the next line, after the town and
State/ Province. Just make sure there IS a blank line AFTER the position
of the cursor.
