What is the LAN Tachometer
The LAN Tachometer is a powerful network tool that provides a quick
view of network activity, plus access to the entire line of Brightwork
products. The LAN Tachometer takes full advantage of the graphical
Windows environment to provide simultaneous graphs, charts, and
gauges of the most useful network management information, just as what
you would find on a car dashboard. Unlike a car dashboard, you can
customize the LAN Tachometer and even view up to eight file servers at
once.

The LAN Tachometer displays include information on: printer activity,
disk space usage, active users, file server errors generated and potential
security violations. Information can be displayed in the user's choice of
pie charts, bar graphs and special dashboard gauge formats. See "Getting
Started" for step by step instructions.

The LAN Tachometer toolbar also provides quick access to Brightwork
products installed on the LAN. Each toolbar icon corresponds to a
specific Brightwork product; LAN Automatic Inventory, NETremote+,
LAN Servival, SiteMeter, and PS-Print. Clicking on one of these
icons will immediately launch the
selected application. If the product is not available, a brief description is
displayed.

Getting Started

To launch a Brightwork application, choose its associated icon or select
the application from the tools menu.
NOTE: If a help screen appears, this is an indication that the application
was not found. If the application is installed, choose properties from the
Tools menu and fill in the requested information.

To configure your LAN Tachometer displays:
Step 1: From the Gauge menu, select "New Gauge" or click on the new
gauge icon (N).

Step 2: Select a metric from the first list box.

Step 3: Select "Snapshot" or "History" as the collection method.

Step 4: Select one or more server(s). To add to the list of available
servers, simply choose the attach/login option.

Step 5: Select a gauge type: Bar, Table, Meter, or Pie.

Step 6 (Optional): Select a graph ceiling. The LAN Tachometer will
automatically set a ceiling for each graph based on the values it generates.
This option is available so that the user can have more control over the
appearance of the graphs.

Step 7: Select OK and the gauge will appear. Note: If you have chosen a
metric to be graphed over time (historically) more than one gauge may
appear.

Repeat steps 1 through 7 for each metric that you are interested in
viewing. Use the "Window" menu to select either tile or cascade to make
you LAN Tachometer display more pleasing. The miniature buttons
represent different graph types and helpful utilities.

As you exit the LAN Tachometer, you will be given a chance to save the
current configuration. If you choose to do so, the next time you launch
the LAN Tachometer, it will be automatically configured (to same format
you saved) for you.
