  * Founded in Sri Lanka in 1958, the BPS is a government-approved
charity dedicated to making known the Teaching of the Buddha, which
has a vital message for people of all creeds. BPS publications
represent the standpoint of Theravada Buddhism, the oldest living
Buddhist tradition, whose Pali Canon gives us the most authentic
account of what the historical Buddha himself actually taught.

  * Since its founding, the BPS has published a wide variety of books
and booklets covering a great range of topics. Always authentic, lucid
and reliable, BPS publications present Buddhism as it truly is_a
dynamic force which has influenced receptive minds for the past 2500
years and which meets the challenges of modern life with insights as
valid today as they were when first proclaimed.

  * Ordering information, an order form, and an enrolment form for
associate membership in the BPS will be found at the back of this
  catalogue.

  * BPS largely operates through your donations and support by the
purchase of our books. It is the generosity of our members and
well-wishers that enables us to continue our important work. We
especially appreciate advance contributions towards the publication of
planned books, announced in this catalogue and in our newsletters.

  * Quality manuscripts pertaining to the Theravada Buddhist tradition
will be welcomed and considered for any of our formats: books, Wheel
booklets or Bodhi Leaves. Prospective authors may write to the Editor,
including a one-page resume of the proposed work.

  * When in Kandy come visit us. Our spacious headquarters features a
large bookshop, a Buddhist library, and a small meditation room. Our
friendly staff will be glad to meet you and assist you with your
needs. BPS is located on the road running alongside the lovely Kandy
Lake, about half a mile past the Temple of the Sacred Tooth. The
bookshop is open Monday to Friday, 9. a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 9
  a.m. to 12 noon.
