4-8-94 (data)BBS & FAX rec'v

I have tried several times setting up software to answer both as Data
or Fax. I have TWO ways to try.

A) (preferred). To your BBS (or data) string add +FCLASS=0+FAE=1S0=1
(the S0=1 lets the modem answer). If it is a FAX call the modem prints FAX
through the port to the screen. Ideally you will have a TSR which is
looking to see either FAX or CONNECT and calling the apropriate software.

B) To use a Zoom FaxModem with a BBS and fax rec'v, you try the following
(it must be CLASS-2 faxmodem) Assume your BBS init string is AT&F&C1&D2.
You add to the string +FCLASS=2 to set it to Fax mode. Let the FAX software
answer the RING, and leave the BBS software looking for the CONNECT message
('let the modem answer' setting in BBS software) When the modem answers it
will go CONNECT XXXX if it connects as a modem. The BBS software should
behave normally.
If it connects as a FAX it will issue a +FCON, followed soon by an
OK. The OK means it is back in command mode, so your FAX software can give
whatever commands it needs to carry the process further. If the Fax
software caused the modem to answer, then it should continue the procees
and rec'v the fax. The modem will be in FAX mode, and ready, so it's all up
the the FAX software at this point.

Because of the wide variety of calling modems, some may give some
tones which will cause an error of some kind. There unfortunately, is no
cure for this (unless EVERYBODY used one kind of modem).

NOTE>>> BBS & Fax

I have a report that the Zoom V32bis modems and D'Bridge/fax will
work with BGFAXB10.ZIP. (there is a copy on the NITE BBS you can DL) You
change the Zoom3242.MCF files you change the preinit to ATZ, and the INIT
ATn1&k3+faa=1+fcr=1+flid="your name"H0 Then in Security/Misc under
external rec'vrs put 'FAX/C:\BGFAX\BGFAX /fax'. BGFAX may work with
other telecom host programs too.
This comes from Fidonet D'bridge echo.
