12-20-93                   Parity   Bits & Stop-bit

     There  are  3  settings the software does to the  modem  when  calling

another modem system (the modems usually adjust the speed themselves). They

are Parity, Bits and Stop bit (Stop is always shown last, others may be  in

either order).

     When  you  call  a local BBS system, 99% of the time  they  use  N,8,1

(None, 8 bits, 1 stop). Many of the big systems like Compuserve, also  many

college-type systems use E,7,1 (Even,7,1). In each directory entry of  your

phone book, will be a section where these settings are stored.
