For Zoom/modems (even hi-speed modems) we recommend you pick the HAYES
Smartmodem 2400 initialization string recommended by the BBS documentation.
To get true modem-modem CONNECT speed add S95=1, or if the BBS software
supports /ARQ (which tells the software if you get a V42(bis) connection)
use S95=3. Lock modem-computer (DTE) data rate. (38,400 for 19/24K and
57,600 for 28K). Hardware CTS/RTS flow=ON. In most instances this works.

If the software wants Modem to answer then S0=1. If you have a choice
of modem or software to answer, try letting the software answer (S0=0)
before trying modem answer.

Most current BBS software doesn't have the settings to use for the V-
Fast speeds. You will have to pick from the list below. On my software I
have (besides 300 & 1200) 2400, 2400 ARQ, 9600 and 9600 ARQ. So I have to
use 10, 12, 15, and 62 and eliminate some speeds. Most BBS software uses V0
for numeric result codes. If it uses V1 for word responses, often CONNECT
24000 is seen as CONNECT 2400. So an alternative is to lock the DTE and use
S95=0 (S95=2 for /ARQ) and use the CONNECT setting for your locked DTE.

I do suggest starting the string AT&F and then put the recommended
Hayes string, and whatever else you are using.

      Here is a suggested string for Wildcat AT&C&C1&D2E0M0X1S95=3 * * *

If you are running a BBS you might want to put ZOOMHINT.EXE, a self
extracting file, with over 200 files with modem/faxing/comport help, up for
your users. You can get ZOOMHINT.EXE from my ZOOM BBS, NITES and Weekends
at 617-451-5284.
