Update for ThrustMaster Mark II WCS:
Revision 2.
1. DO NOT PLUG OR UNPLUG ANYTHING TO THE WCS MARK II(JOYSTICKS,
RUDDERS, ETC) WHILE YOUR COMPUTER IS TURNED ON. This is just
plain a safety measure so you don't create any inadvertent power
spikes that can cause damage to your Mark II.

2. When the hat mode switch (black switch on top of the Mark II
WCS base) is in analog mode, the only switch that changes to
analog and passes thru the game card is the "hat" switch. If you
want to use the FCS/PFCS as a simulator-supported FCS/PFCS, then
unplug the FCS/PFCS from the Mark II and plug it into the Y-cable
on the RCS. If, you have two CONNECTORS on your game port, plug
the WCS Mark II 15-pin cable into the second connector and it
will draw its power from there and you can still use it, but you
will not be able to use the analog throttle (it will conflict
with the "hat"). Put the red mode switch in Digital position.
Plugged in this way, all four buttons and the "hat" will be
analog.

3. If your WCS II fails to download, shut your computer off,
unplug everything from the Mark II and the Mark II from the
computer and wait a few minutes. Plug it all back in and make
sure your hat switch is in the digital position and then click
the red mode switch on the top of the WCS II to the Analog mode,
then back to the Digital mode and then to the Calibrate mode.
Try this more than once. Once you get a download accepted, it
should work OK. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU ALWAYS DO THE
FOLLOWING PRIOR TO ATTEMPTING TO DOWNLOAD A PROGRAM TO THE MARK
II WCS: 1. Put the throttle handle in the full off position. 2.
Switch the RED MODE SWITCH to DIGITAL and the BLACK HAT SWITCH to
DIGITAL. 3. Click Button 1 on the WCS throttle several times
until you see a character at the dos prompt (or a character using
KEYTEST.EXE - not all characters produce something visible at the
dos prompt - KEYTEST will show them all). Do all these prior to
each attempt to download, then if something goes wrong we'll all
be singing from the same sheet of music if you need to call our
tech support lines.

4. If your computer gives the "Keyboard Error, press F1 to
resume" message on boot up, make sure the Mark II WCS handle is
all the way back and the RED mode switch on the top of the WCS II
is in the digital position and the hat switch is in the digital
position.
If it still fails and gives the "Keyboard Error, press F1 to
resume" message, then try a different keyboard. Try a friends
keyboard that is different from the keyboard on your computer.

5. Something left out of the manual: You CAN program the trigger
as a digital trigger (ie - you can assign a key or multiple keys
to the trigger). The trigger will still pass as an analog
trigger, but it will also operate as a keypress this way. It is
recommended that you use this feature with caution. Some
programs (notably Red Baron and AOTP) do not like this. What
will happen is you will start on the runway and if you have
programmed a SPACE on the trigger, the guns will fire until empty
unless you press the space bar on the keyboard. I still haven't
figured that one out, but it's not necessary to do this anyway,
just don't program the trigger for anything when using sims that
don't like this and it will just work like a normal trigger.
I use the digital trigger in Falcon 3.0 a lot because I tend
to fly a lot of A-A missions with just guns. I program the
trigger with two SPC commands which causes the guns to fire short
bursts and the ammo lasts longer. If you do this, however, with
missiles on board, every time you press the trigger you will fire
two missiles that way, so use common sense here. If you have a
need to put a keypress on the trigger, then use it if not, just
leave the line in the *.ADV file blank and it will not waste the
memory needed for a keypress. Things will work fine.
I also use the trigger in Flight Simulator 4 from Microsoft. I
program it to lower the flaps to 10 degrees (F6) and use the
remap software to make the F6 key toggle between F6 and F7 so
each succesive press of the trigger first sets the flaps to 10
degrees and then to 30 degrees.
You would program the trigger using this format under the FCS
section of the *.ADV file:
BTN TG <whatever keypress or keypresses you want>
An example of what I do for Falcon 3.0 (guns only)
   BTN TG SPC SPC
An example of what I do for Flightsim 4:
BTN TG F6 (With remap I make F6 toggle between F6 and F7)
  That's it for now.

6. Some files from the REMAPPER software were left off the
initial distribution disk that came with the earliest Mark II
WCS' that were shipped. If you had a WCS I, then you already
have the REMAPPER software - use it - it is the same version and
will work fine with the Mark II WCS. If you do not have the
REMAPPER, (WCC.EXE, README, CH_FILE.DAT, KBDRMP.COM, KBDPEF3.COM,
TBL_FLL.EXE, PLUS SEVERAL FILES WITH THE EXTENSION *.RMP AND
*.BAT), contact ThrustMaster at 503-639-3200 and we will send the
disk with the files to you. The README file can be read by
clicking on HELP in the top menu bar after you run WCC.EXE and it
wil give you instructions on how to use the remapper.

7. The following MUST ALWAYS be included in your *.ADV files:
RKR UP; RKR MD; RKR DN; AND you MUST assign a no-op key to
these positions if you wish not to use them in the program you
are making your *.ADV file for.
THR (You must fill in all program arguements - you can use no-
op characters here as well. These must always be there and must
have a character assigned to each arguement even if you put a no-
op character there. Blank spaces are not recognized and will not
clear out characters downloaded from a prior *.ADV file.
Blank spaces on the BTN lines will NOT clear out a prior
character downloaded with a previous *.ADV file.

8. You CAN leave any line that starts with BTN completely out of
the *.ADV file and it will both preserve memory in the chip
inside the Mark II WCS and clear the button of an old character
that was downloaded to that button. The DOWNLOAD.EXE does not
recognize blank spaces and will consequently ignore them.

9. DOWNLOAD.EXE does recognize REM as a comment command. You can
use REM to comment your files. Please read ALL the *.TXT files
that came with the Mark II WCS software. There is some valuable
information in them. Read one a day - you'll learn a lot from
them.

10. RKR UP; RKR MD; RKR DN; HU; & HD CANNOT have more than TWO
CHARACTERS. If you wish them to toggle between two characters,
you can use the remap software (WCC.EXE) to cause this to happen,
BUT YOU CANNOT USE A REMAP MODE TOGGLE KEY AND THEN TRY TO REMAP
THAT TO SOME OTHER KEY - IT WON'T WORK. YOU CAN'T REMAP A REMAP.
I.E. If you assign the "/" to RKR UP, AND you make that activate
a mode in the remapper, you cannot then try to remap "/" to
something else, or, obviously, when you press "/", it will put
out whatever character you remapped it to and your mode in the
remapper won't activate.

You CAN do the following: (this is true for both HU and HD).
BTN HU 1 2 (Then you can use remapper to have 1 toggle between 1
and some other character and 2 toggle between 2 and some other
character).

BTN RKR UP F5 (Then you can remap it to toggle between F5 and
some other character, but use with caution - it is most often
desirable to use the rocker switch on the WCS II to cause the
remap modes themselves to be activated - it would just cause your
ulcer-potential to increase if you try to remap one that does
this.

If you haven't already, please add a BTN TG and a line with and
arrow pointing to the Trigger on the FCS shown in Figure Two on
Page 4 of the manual. This will serve as a reminder that you CAN
program the trigger like a button if you ever have the need to.
Please do the same with the two example programming sheets
included at the back of the WCS II manual.

11. SHFTD (character) SHFTU will take just as much memory in the
chip inside the WCS II as just capitalizing the character does.
The ability to enter an "N" instead of SHFTD n SHFTU is simply a
convenience so you don't need to type as much. The SHFTD and
SHFTU are there primarily for use when a program requires a
Shift-something (usually a function key like F5 for example) to
perform some action.

12. ThrustMaster is working on a revised manual for the Mark II
WCS, improvements to the download software, and an in-depth test
routine for all features of the Mark II WCS. Announcements will
be made on all major online services as these are completed.
Happy ThrustMastering
