Taiwan Scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator 5 (version 0.4)

        Welcome to Formosa!
This scenery was created with Enno Borgsteede's BGLGEN compiler.
Baisc visual scenery, all navaids, and most civil airports within Taiwan area
are included, though there are still no taxiways and terminal buildings.
I will probably update this version later after BAO's Pilot Shop comes out.

Flying over Taiwan can be fun, due to high mountains up to 13,000 ft.
(about 4000 m) at the central part of this tiny island. Watch out for them,
especially in a cloudy day. Approaching and landing on Sung-Shan Airport(TSA),
located at downtown Taipei city, runway 28 can be as challenging as rwy 13 of
Hong Kong Int'l(HKG), since that the LDA, not an ILS, offset from landing
runway by 15 degree and that this airport is also surrounded by mountains.
Though TSA is no longer an international airport--Chiang Kai Shek Int'l(TPE) is
the one--I would recommend you fly from Taipei to HKG, landing on rwy 13, and
then go back from Hong Kong to TSA, landing on rwy 28 if (1) you happen to
have the Hong Kong scenery and, (2) of course, weather permitted, so you can
double the fun. Moreover, flying a domestic route from Hua-Lien(HUN), located
at the eastern part of Taiwan, to Taipei(TSA) can also be either fun or tragic,
depending on your skill and attention. Airway and altitude deviation can easily
result in running into the high Central Mountains. (It did happen to me<g>
and, in reality, it also caused the most significant accident in Taiwanese
aviation history)
To use this scenery, copy TAIWAN.BGL to \FLTSIM5\SCENERY and
TSALAND.STN to \FLTSIM5\PILOTS.

Approaching TSA rwy 28
When close to Taipei city, tune ADF to Chi-Lung(LU, frequency 357) and
fly directly to it. After reaching it, turn to 203 degrees, fly at 3500',
intercept the LDA (frequency 108.95--it should be, in reality, 108.90 but I
intentionally change it because rwy 10 shares the same frequency), and descend
gradually. You should be at 3000' when 10 nm away, 2700' at 8nm, 2200' at
7nm, 1000' at 4nm. The decision height is at 720'. The LDA is at 262 degrees,
and airport at 18'. Please note that the glideslope is not functioning because
I guess an LDA does not come with a glideslope. I am, however, no expert at
all so please let me know if I am wrong. I also include a situation file
TSALAND.STN in this pack.

Approaching TSA rwy 10
        From APU(112.5), fly 223 degrees at 5000' towards LK(frequency 235) and
gradually descend to 3500'. You will intercept the localizer at LK. However,
please note that aircraft on approach from APU are required to cross APU at
or above 7000'.
From either HLG(114.9) or GM(400), go 52 degrees at 3500' until
intercept the localizer.

Approaching TPE rwy 23
Fly 327 degrees from APU(112.5) at 4700'. Then intercept the
localizer and descend to 2200' until intercept the glideslope. Please note
that aircraft on approach from APU are required to cross APU at or above 7000'.

Approaching TPE rwy 05L
Fly to HLG and then go 40 degrees at 4000'. Intercept the localizer
and descend to 1400' until intercept the glideslope.

Flying to areas outside Taiwan
To Hong Kong, fly to MKG (frequency 114.7) first. Then, go 240 degrees
for 138 nm to the point (N22:20:0 E117:30:0) and turn to 269 degrees. Go
another 193 nm and here comes the Hong Kong Int'l(HKG). Though flying
approximately 255 degrees from MKG can probably get you to Hong Kong directly,
in reality they won't do that because it will cross the airspace of the
People's Republic of China, if you have any idea about the ambigious and
sensitive political situations between Taiwan and PRC.
To Japanese main islands, fly to APU (112.5) and then go 52 degress.
The distance between APU to Kagoshima(HKC) at southern Japan, is about 617 nm.
To Okinawa, Japan, fly 99 degrees from APU for 207 nm.
To Korea, fly 38 degrees from APU for 568 nm to the point (N29:35:0
E125:01:36) and then turn to 25 degrees for another 568 nm.

Notes
This scenery was origianlly created for my personal use to fulfill my
duties for Noble Air, a simulated airline based on CIS. I, of course,
understand that this one is far from perfect. However, it is still better than
nothing. Hopefully, I will improve it later if time permitted.
This scenery is copyrighted and restricted to private recreational
use only. No commercial use and no profit can be gained from it at all.
As a Taiwanese law student studying in the US and will-be lawyer, I will
try to have some fun with those who violate it, especially those living in
Taiwan or in the US<g>.
Special thanks to Enno Borgsteede. I could not create this scenery
without his easy-to-use compiler. Feedbacks are welcome. Also, if you are
interested in knowing the instrument approach procedure of any specific runway,
or you need me to clarify anything in this document, please feel free to
contact me.
