=========================================================================== .XIC Print Version 1.1 (c)1992 Software Development Systems Written by Scott Sanders Shareware =========================================================================== CHANGES SINCE VERSION 1.0 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If this is your first version of this product, you can skip to the next section. Version 1.1 changes three things from version 1.0. 1. A title, representing the name of the .XIC file is now printed at the top of the page in the chosen font. 2. The 'ID' menu bar has been changed to 'GDOS ID' and if you are using FSM or FONTGDOS, the menu bar will show the name of the printer, not just the ID number. 3. A bug which could have caused icon titles with mixed up fonts has been removed. INTRODUCTION >>>>>>>>>>>> I introduced the .XIC format not too long ago primarily to support another commercial product of mine, the Newdesk Icon Editor V2.0. I had originally considered adding a print option but the CPX was already 112k and I knew a print option as implemented here would add another 30k at least. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> .XIC Print will run on any Atari computer and monitor configuration. GDOS 1.1, G+ Plus, FONTGDOS, or FSM GDOS is required in addition to a font capable of 8 point printing. FSM GDOS is best suited to this task. You should run .XIC print in ST Medium, ST High, TT Medium, TT High, or another resolution capable of displaying more than 440 pixels across. USING GDOS >>>>>>>>>> Before using this application you should have a working knowledge of the GDOS you are using. Refer to your instruction manual for more details. INSTALLATION & USAGE >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Simply copy the files XICPRINT.PRG and XICPRINT.RSC to a directory on your hard drive (or leave 'em on your floppy - Yecch!). Double-click on XICPRINT.PRG to start. Program credits may be obtained by clicking on the menu option About XIC Print... To begin select the GDOS printer ID of the printer you're trying to access under the 'ID' menu. This should correspond to the printer's id in your ASSIGN.SYS menu. If you are using FSM/FONT GDOS the program will attempt to fill in the title with your printers' name. Device 21 or the top menu line will always represent the printer selected with the Printer Selector CPX. After choosing your printer ID the font menu heading will be updated with up to 15 fonts capable of printing at 8 point. Select the font you desire before continuing. Now, to print your icons, select 'Print' under the 'File' menu heading and a file selector will appear. You may choose any compatible .XIC V1.0 file. The program will proceed to print all 32x32 icons contained in the file with their titles. (.XIC files are capable of containing more than just 32x32 icons). If at any time you wish to abort you may use the UNDO key to stop printing after the current page has finished. WHAT'S COMING >>>>>>>>>>>>> I will eventually update this program to function as a .GTP (GEM takes parameters) to take advantage of TOS 2.05 and above. I also thought about correctly reflecting the color of icons on a color printer. In addition, at some point in time it will be able to handle icon files with more than just the 32x32 size.
