Data Rescue quick tour ---------------------- This assumes you are using: 1) Unconfigured copies of DATARESC.PRG and RESCUE.APP. 2) A disk installed as drive K- substitute whichever drive you prefer. 3) DATARESC installed in memory from the AUTO folder. DATARESC.DAT delete tracking ---------------------------- Run RESCUE.APP. Select the [Configure] button in the Main (first) dialog. The Configure dialog will come up. No drives should be selected. NOTE: A selected/highlighted button indicates an enabled drive for that feature. In the 'DATARESC.DAT Tracked Drives' box, select button [K] for drive K. Select the [Exit] button returning you to Main. Select the [Exit] button in Main to exit the program. Now drive K is enabled for DAT-tracking deleted files. Copy a test file to drive K. Delete this file on drive K. The hidden file DATARESC.DAT is created on drive K, indicating that the test file's deletion was tracked. Run RESCUE.APP. In the Main dialog select the button [K] on the left hand side to change the file listing to drive K. You will see DATARESC.DAT in the list greyed-out. The list mode button -found above the scroll list UP arrow- is set to 'N' for normal. Switch the list mode from Normal to Delete mode by selecting this list mode button. The 'N' will change to 'D'. In the directory listing you will see the file that you previously deleted. Preceding the first character in the name is a 'å' which signifies a deleted name. Between the name and filesize is a checkmark, indicating the file has been processed through a rescue verification and returned a good status. Single click this name as you would a name in a file selector. The 'Rescue Name' box will contain the selected name with the original first character automagically filled-in. Select the [View Text] button to see the beginning TEXT content of the file. Select the [View Data] button to see the beginning DATA content of the file. To recover this file, select [Rescue Data]. Upon completion, the 'Status' box should contain the messages "1/1 RESCUED" and "Data Rescued". (NOTE: In the DEMO version only the integrity verification stage is done and the status reflects the result- data is _NOT_ rescued.) You have successfully rescued your first DAT-tracked file. RESCUEfolder delete tracking ---------------------------- (NOTE: _NOT_ available in DEMO version.) Select the [Configure] button in the Main dialog. The Configure dialog will come up. One drive should be selected- drive K in the 'DATARESC.DAT Tracked Drives' box. In the 'RESCUE FOLDER Tracked Drives' box, select button [K] for drive K. The drive K button in the 'DAT-Tracked Drives' box should be automatically deselected. Select the [Exit] button to return to Main. Select the [Exit] button in Main to exit the program. Now drive K is enabled for RESCUEfolder tracking deleted files. Delete the test file rescued on drive K. A RESCUE folder should be created on drive K indicating that the test file's deletion was tracked. Look inside the folder to verify that this file was moved to RESCUE. Move (or copy) this file to the root of drive K. You have successfully recovered your first RESCUEfolder-tracked file.
