PageView is a utility designed to allow you to easily read and view text files and documentation from the desktop, without loading up a word processor or text editor. When properly installed, PageView will be automatically executed whenever you double-click on a text file at the desktop. PageView works flawlessly with all versions of TOS, and any version of NeoDesk. REGISTRATION If you use PageStream, you must send a check or money order of $5 to help support the starving programmer. If you do not do this, your guilty conscience will bother you for eternity, and you won't be informed of any updates. HOW TO INSTALL PAGEVIEW I. The standard desktop. - Regardless of whether you will be using NeoDesk, it is a good idea to install PageView on the standard desktop. To do this, you will need a text editor capable of saving a standard ASCII file with no formatting. I've found the Flash capture buffer to be ideal. - The first thing you need to do is install PAGEVIEW.TTP on the desktop. To do this, fist copy Pageview into the directory you wish for it to reside in (Since you will never need to actually execute the program, you should place PageView out of the way.) Then, single-click on PAGEVIEW.TTP so it is highlighted. Now, move to the OPTIONS menu-bar heading and click on "Install Application." You will want to install this as a TOS Takes Parameters, or TTP application. Type "TXT" for the document type, and click on the "OK" button. Once this is installed, save your desktop with the "Save Desktop" option. - Next, break out your trusty text editor, and load in the file called DESKTOP.INF. Find the line in the file that looks like this: #F 03 04 PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.TXT@ - You will want to change this line to reflect the proper path of PAGEVIEW.TTP. Example: #F 03 04 C:\PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.TXT@ - Next, add additional lines for each different file extender you wish to read using PageView. In my DESKTOP.INF file, I have the following lines: #F 03 04 C:\PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.TXT@ #F 03 04 C:\PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.DOC@ #F 03 04 C:\PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.ASC@ #F 03 04 C:\PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.ME@ #F 03 04 C:\PAGEVIEW.TTP@ *.NOW@ - Now, save the DESKTOP.INF file, and reboot your system. PageView then work whenever you double-click on any file with an extender matching the set extenders in DESKTOP.INF. II. NEODESK - Installation of PageView to work with NeoDesk is almost identical to installing it on the standard desktop. The only difference is that NeoDesk properly saves the path along with the filename, and NeoDesk supports two extenders per Installed application. If you wish to have more that two installed extenders, it is possible to edit the NEODESKC.INF or NEODESKM.INF file and simply duplicate the install line in the file. Also, you will wish to install PageView as a TOS application and not a TTP application. David McNett c/o Circle-City Software P.O. Box 1663 Indianpolis, IN 46206-1663 (317) 257-8951
