------------------------- The G+PLUS Mini Accessory Release Date: 10/22/88 ------------------------- G+PLUS corrects many of the problems with Atari GDOS and adds some nice new features, like the ability to reload an ASSIGN file without rebooting your computer, and the ability to link applications that use GDOS/G+PLUS with their appropriate ASSIGN files. However, in the words of the late great Robert Heinlein, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." The price you pay for these extra features is that G+PLUS uses a little more memory than GDOS, especially if you're using both G+PLUS.PRG and G+PLUS.ACC. We've recently discovered that some ST programs that use GDOS are designed so that they barely fit into one megabyte of RAM, when all their fonts and device drivers are loaded. The extra memory used by G+PLUS and the G+PLUS Accessory together may cause some fonts not to be loaded, or other strange symptoms. Therefore, we decided to release this "stripped down" version of the G+PLUS Accessory, called the G+PLUS Mini Accessory. If you're cramped for memory when you run your favorite GDOS/G+PLUS application, G+MINI.ACC may solve your problems. G+MINI.ACC uses about 14K less memory than G+PLUS.ACC; the instructions for installing the G+PLUS Accessory in the G+PLUS Users' Manual can be used to install G+MINI.ACC as well. G+MINI.ACC will still look for an ASSIGN.INS file in the root directory of your boot disk, and use this Installation File if it is found. However, you won't be able to edit the Installation File or load a new one with G+MINI.ACC. Instead of the nice G+PLUS Accessory dialog box, G+PLUS Mini gives you a simple, frugal alert box that tells you the name of the current ASSIGN file and offers no choices. (Note: Polyline Style is set to "Solid" automatically by G+MINI.ACC.) The Alternate Options feature of the G+PLUS Accessory is fully implemented in G+MINI.ACC, so you will still be able to load new ASSIGN files or bypass the active Installation File. (See your G+PLUS Users' Manual for details on using Installation Files and the Alternate Options menu.) The G+PLUS Mini Accessory is useful even if you're not having any memory problems. (It's always nice to find a spare 14K or so lying around.) If you've already got an Installation File set up, and rarely (or never) need to change it, G+MINI.ACC will do the same job as G+PLUS.ACC, but use a lot less memory. ----------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE NOTE! To run, the G+PLUS Mini Accessory requires G+PLUS.PRG to be installed in your AUTO folder. ----------------------------------------------------------------- G+PLUS is a complete, flexible, and powerful replacement for Atari GDOS that works with all the current programs that use GDOS. (Programs like Timeworks Desktop Publisher, Easy Draw, WordUp, LDW Power, Microsoft Write, DEGAS Elite, etc.) G+PLUS comes complete with a 32-page manual, laid out and printed with an Atari Mega ST4, Timeworks Publisher, Supercharged Easy Draw, a QMS Postscript laser printer, and G+PLUS (of course!). The manual includes information about setting up ASSIGN.SYS files (lists of fonts and device drivers) and full documentation on the extensions and enhancements that G+PLUS offers. As a bonus, Douglas Wheeler's excellent article "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About GDOS (and More)" is included on the master disk. G+PLUS is available for $34.95 US. And while we're pitching our products, let's not forget MultiDesk! MultiDesk breaks the ST's six-accessory limit and allows you to load almost any standard ST desk accessory at any time, even while a program is running. MultiDesk is highly compatible with a majority of desk accessories and written in assembly language for maximum speed and compactness. You can load and unload entire groups of desk accessories with a click of the mouse, easily configure MultiDesk for your own personal setup, and even run any desk accessory as a program! MultiDesk will load up to 32 desk accessories at a time, and if you need more...MultiDesk can even be loaded into *itself*. The only limit to the amount of desk accessories you can access (excuse the shameless alliteration) is your available memory. MultiDesk is available for $29.95 US.
