GEMvelope! ....a program to print envelopes. Copyright (C) 1990 Roger Richards This program was created to fill a long time need of mine - to print the addresses on envelopes with my printer. I have an Atari SLM804 Laser printer and use several GDOS programs such as WordUP, Easy Draw, and recently Wordflair. The output of my GDOS programs look great on the SLM804 and I always wanted to print envelopes somehow. The SLM804 (and most other printers) will not feed an envelope in the standard horizontal orientation for printing across it. It did have a manual feed but the only way to get an envelope through was to insert it the long way like this: ________________________________________________ | __________________ | | | | | ___ | | | | | | | | | | | | | |___| | | | | | | | |_| ^ |___________________________ | | | | | | Feed the envelope in the long way, | | | right side of the envelope first. | | | | | | \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ The problem with this is that the printer would have to rotate the text for it to work. I decided that if I could write a simple program that rotates text, it would do the trick. * Enter GDOS * No! Not that word! Don't worry, I use GDOS because it has font rotation built in and there are nice fonts available. Anyway, this program will mostly appeal to those who already use another GDOS program. You must have GDOS or G+PLUS, a printer driver, and fonts for your printer. If you have any other GDOS program you should be all set. GEMvelope! allows you to pick from the Swiss, Dutch, or Typewriter fonts (the GDOS staples); but will only use the 12 point size. At the minimum, your ASSIGN.SYS file should include: 21 SLM804.SYS ;or some other printer driver like FX80.SYS ATSS12LS.FNT ;or some other 12 point printer font like ATSS12EP.FNT To use GEMvelope! make sure GDOS is loaded and run GEMVELOP.PRG. There are spaces for a return address and a main address. GEMvelope! prints the return address 8.5 inches from the right side of the envelope and the main address 5.5 inches from the right and 2 inches from the top of the envelope. These positions are not adjustable at this time. If you have envelopes with pre-printed return addresses, you can click on and deselect the "Print return address" button and it won't be printed. When you have entered the addresses you want, you are ready to load the envelope. If you have a dot matrix printer, feed it long ways with the right side first. If you have a SLM804, pull the paper bid drawer out until the red light goes on (this tells the SLM804 GDOS driver to use the manual feed slot) and then click on "Print". When the green light on the SLM804 comes on, insert the envelope long ways as shown in the above diagram. GEMvelope! will be enhanced through a shareware program, meaning that if you use it regularly and would like a more powerful version, I would like you to register it for $25. I will mail an upgraded version to all registered owners. Features I plan to add are: o A desk accessory version o Load-able and save-able addresses and configuration o Adjustable position for the addresses (for different size envelopes) o Selectable font sizes o A mail merge capability Please let me know what you would like to see added when you register. GEMvelope! was developed using Megamax Laser C. Atari, GEM, Laser C, and G+PLUS are trademarks of their respective companies. To register send $25. to: Roger Richards Synergy Resources 754 N.
