URW Font Chart: DeskJet Package

Calligrapher, the Ultimate Writing Machine, has a unique font system which
gives you outline font capabilities through GDOS (actually, through a
special included version of G+Plus).  This system produces excellent
output, while providing faster operation than other outline font methods
(such as FSMGDOS).  The fonts for this system are copyrighted and licensed
from the URW font foundry. 

There are 5 URW typefaces included with Calligrapher and 64 additional
fonts available at a retail price of $34.95 per disk.  Each disk contains
a family of fonts related to a particular typeface.  The number of fonts
in the family varies from disk to disk, providing a combination of book,
bold, italic, and bold italic. 

The purpose of this font chart package is two-fold.  It provides an
example of Calligrapher's print quality, and it gives you a sample of the
available URW typefaces.  The package contains files which allow you to
print your own URW font chart on a DeskJet printer.  The printout shows
each font in its normal typeface with a sampling of the available
characters at a point size of 18.  Space limitations prohibit the display
of the related bold and italic renditions.  The first five fonts shown are
included with Calligrapher.  These URW fonts are equivalent to the
following popular fonts:

The rest of the fonts are numbered from 1 to 66 (omitting 11 and 16) and
are sold separately. 

The files included here contain the raw printer data required to create
two pages of high resolution graphic output and are therefore quite large. 
This is necessary in order to give you an accurate representation of the
print quality of Calligrapher. 

These files were created by using the CodeHead RAM Disk's print spooler. 
This spooler has the ability to capture printer output and save it to
disk.  Calligrapher was configured to use the DeskJet driver and a
document was created within Calligrapher displaying all of the available
fonts.  The printout you'll get was created entirely by
Calligrapher...there were no tricks used other than the capturing of
Calligrapher's output in order to save it to disk. 


                         Printing the Font Chart
                         -----------------------

Font chart packages are available for other printers, including 9-pin,
24-pin, BubbleJet, HP LaserJet, Atari SLM Laser printers, and possibly
others.  Check with the source from which you obtained this package for
more information. 
 
This font chart package may be freely distributed as long as the following
files are included and unaltered.  It may not be included with any
commercial product without the permission of CodeHead Technologies and
there may be no restrictions placed on its distribution.  Included in this
DeskJet package are:

      DESKJET1.DAT - Page 1 of the font chart
      DESKJET2.DAT - Page 2 of the font chart
      URWFONTS.TXT - This text
      SPOOLMAN.PRG - The Spooler Manager from CodeHead Utilities

The DAT files contain raw printer data and can be printed from any utility
which will print a file without any translation.  One way to print these
files is to use the GEM desktop's "print" function, but it must be noted
that later versions of TOS will interpret bytes with a value of 8 as tab
characters and corrupt the printout by adding spaces. 

To provide a proven method for printing these raw printer files, we've
included the Spooler Manager from our CodeHead Utilities package. 
Although this program is copyrighted by Codehead Software and may not be
altered in any way, we hereby present it as freeware and it may be
distributed freely.  As an added extra, this version (v1.1) fixes problems
that version 1.0 had with the TT (which would cause a crash if there were
not exactly 4 meg of ST RAM).

To print the files, simply run SPOOLMAN.PRG (it also works as an accessory
by changing its extension to ACC), select "Print a File", and locate the
DAT file you wish to print.  Spooler Manager will ask you how many copies
you wish to print (enter 1) and whether you want a formfeed after each
page (select None).  You do not need to have a printer spooler installed
in order to print the font chart.  After printing the first page, you can
repeat the process for the second page. 

This printout should work on all DeskJet printers but there's no way we
can guarantee that it will.

NOTE:  MaxiFile's print feature also translates tab characters and will
not correctly print these DAT files.
