It comes in the form of question and answer cards. You can have a maximum of 16 question cards on the screen at any one time. As you turn over a card a question or answer is shown and you have to pick the card with the compimentary question or answer. There are quite a number of subjects covered. This programme is shareware. MATHS TEST This programme is aimed at the under 10's and covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, with the added bonus that all the questions are both shown on the screen and spoken by the computer. (The children will like that).QUIZICAL A good general knowledge trivia game that pits your knowledge against the clock. The problem with this type of game is that the clock just about gives you time to read the question and pick the answer!. EAC 002 DS BODY SEARCH This is a programme designed to help children learn human anatomy as required in Elementary or Junior school science courses. The names and location of all major bones and organs of the body are taught using both common and and medical terms. THE SEARCH This is a computer aided enquiry. Children must search the village of Bidden for information about the Griggs family. This is done in the form of an adventure game, thus keeping the children's attention and making a game of the subject being taught.MATHMAZE A good maths program that can be easy or very hard the idea is to answer the questions (addition, subtracion, mul- tiplication, division) that will lead you to the treasure. The younger members of my family seem to like it. TRIVIA Another of these programs that test your gerenal knowledge this one will have some of you scratching your heads as some of the questions are based in the USA, the programmer comes from over there. EAC 003 ENCHANTED FOREST is a ludo type game for younger ST users. There are several positions that can either help or hinder the player. A fun game for children. GRAMPA is an adventure type game with a good story. Rather than kids bashing the keyboard to death, all they have to do is type in (Y) or (N) to make progress through the adventure. LASERBALL is a fast or slow (You can determine the speed) game where you bounce the laserball off various objects and destroying the centre area of the screen. This is far from easy as the centre is protected by what looks like an outer layer of bricks. EAC 004 GRAND PRIX Just as the name should tell you this is not a racing game, well not really. You do in fact control a racing car that speeds round several different tracks. But you are only racing against the clock. Not a bad game for the younger children, but not for the older hands. EAC 005 HANGMAN A good spelling aid that comes in the form of the old hangman game we all must have played. If you choose the right letters they are put into the word or the computer starts to draw the hanging man.The programme allows you to enter different words for use within the game. MIX AND MATCH is a game from Mr. K. Fee- ney and is for two players only. You must have two cards the same to score points. A single or two player version of the same game with questions on the Bible is also supplied on the disk. Test your knowledge on both the old or new testiments. EAC 006 HANGMAN This is NOT the same as the above programme as in this one if you get the word wrong the poor man's head is lopped off with a guil- lotine. The head is seen falling to the ground and some blood is drawn on the screen (not too graphic, but might upset younger children). SHIPWRECK This is an excellent programme for teaching maths. You must answer sums to help the lone survivor in his bid to reach safety. There are five levels to choose from. Level one is very easy. An example would be 5+4=. The highest level would have 1245+936= EAC 007 DS ABOUT THE HOUSE Watch the butterfly emerge from the chrysalis and then use it to move about the house. The butterfly becomes the mouse cursor and can be placed over items in the house. Click on the mouse button in the right place and a small piece of animation is displayed. The programme ME displays four pictures in the cen- tre of the screen. The child must click on these pictures in the right order. When this is done a small piece of animation takes place as the pictures are put together. An example would be a plant growing from a seed to a flower. This helps children to understand which comes first if given a task that requires several steps to complete. PARK The opening screen shows an empty park. As the child clicks on various parts of the park it all comes to life, animated and brightly coloured. This programme is helpful to those children who find the computer strange and frightening. KVFONIC helps children to recognise certain objects, name them, and choose the correct initial letter of the object. An example would be the child seeing a picture of a ball and being asked to choose the corresponding initial letter. The child is then rewarded with a tune. A colouful package with the added bonus of great sound. This one is a must. The disk is produced by KNOWLEDGE VINE so look out for more from them. EAC 008 LETTER BOMBER is a letter recognition exercise for children and others. It comes in an arcade format shoot-em-up style. The game emphasises hand/eye co-ordination and alphabet recognition. You must find each of thee ten letters before the time runs out. LET- TER HUNT This again will aid children recognising letters from the alphabet. By movement of the mouse you must match the movable letter with the one on the board. On level one the two letters are of the same colour, but on later levels you must match both co- lours and letters together. MUGSHOTS is a game that gives you the parts to put together faces and other things on the screen. PERFECT MATCH as in EAC 001. EAC 009 DS CHUNNEL is a French/English or English/French word game that is both fun and easy to use. Either play against the computer or a friend. It will teach you the essential vocabulary you need to order food etc. This PD version has 2700 French words and their English equivalent. When you have mastered these you can send off to the author for a version with over 8000 words. SPANISH VERB TUTOR This program is designed to help you learn, revise or check the proper conjugation of Spanish verbs. The pro- gram is initialized to communicate its instructions in English, if you prefer to communicate in French, Spanish or German you can do so by selecting the language from the first screen or from the main menu once within the program. The program is very user friendly and is designed to be easy to use. The only fault I came across is that you cannot add to the list of verbs, having said that I did not find one that the program lacked. EAC 010 NOAHS ARK This is a very good game that will teach children spelling and word recognition. The object is to get as many an- imals as possible into Noah's Ark. This is done by spinning three reels of letters that make up the name of the animals which can then be put into the ark. As the animal is accepted into the ark it makes it's own sound. SPIDER This is a very well put together program that teachs younger ST users to spell. It's in the form of a game, so it keeps the attention level for a long time. One of the best I've seen. This program is SHAREWARE if you find it use- ful you are asked to give a donation to the authors. EAC 011 MATHS MADE EASY This is the first in a series by Alastair Craig. A low res only educational programme for the very young. It tea- ches simple sums in all four basic disciplines with the added bonus that the computer speaks to the child, keeping their atten- tion. GEOGRAPHY QUIZ will test the child's or your knowledge of the world about you. The test is based on knowledge of capitals or flags. As each question is asked you are given three possible answers. EAC 013 DS KIDGRAPH This educational programme teaches children how to make and use block graphs. They can choose the colours they might wish to use for the blocks and then use the programme to build the graphs.KIDMUSIC Teaches the basic chords on the piano or organ. A keyboard is shown on the screen and as each key is pressed so the sound produced by that note (or chord) is heard. There is a choice between piano or organ sound.KIDPUZZLE is a number and compimen- tary picture game. All that needs to be done is click the mouse on a grid on the screen. If the mouse pointer is clicked on a square that has a part of the picture or corresponding number under it then it is revealed. KIDPUB21 is a desktop publishing programme for the younger ST user. Pictures and text can be produced on the screen and also sent out to a printer. A very good training tool for later in life. KIDSTORY allows the child to make up his/her own version of Little Red Riding Hood. They can choose their own items for LRRH to carry when she visits grandmother and also what the woodcutter can use to chop down trees in the forest. EAC 014 DS AIKEN allows children to design a man from various bits & pieces (fruit etc). COLORAID gives the younger child an insight into how the computer creates colour. The child can experiment with the R.G.B palette to create their own palette which can be saved and reloaded at any time. CREBUS writer allows the user to design and print rebuses. A rebus is a code in which pictures and symbols are used to represent words. The help files on the disk and within the programme should them on their way. This will help children to improve their imagination and understanding of the written word. KIDGRID2 teaches children to use and make a block graph. This is an updated version of Kidgraph above. KIDNOTES is a programme for teaching the piano. In this version the child follows a red marker across a piano keyboard to play the tune selected from a group of pictures on the screen. KIDMIXUP teaches children how to split a large task into smaller parts in order to complete the larger task in hand. It works by showing four pictures of a task (like build- ing a snowman) and the child has to click on the right picture in the sequence in order to move on to the next selection. KIDSKETCH is a drawing programme that works rather like a technical drawing board. EAC 015 THE HISTORY FILE 1 An educational murder mystery adventure based on a crime which took place in West Calder in 1884. Please note this is a three disk set and will cost œ4:50 unless you have more than 10 disks in your complete order. EAC 031 DS THE PLANETS. An animated guide to the planets of the solar system. This is more of a slide show but there is some animation, each picture has a short list of facts on each planet and its moons. Its interesting and gives you some limited information. I found it was alright the first couple of times I looked at it and then I found myself thinking of what else I could do with the program. EAC 032 DS DEATH OF A PRESIDENT. A very impressive 3 disk set which covers the assasination of John. F. Kennedy in 1963. The first disk in the set contains a photographic database with text.
