PATGEN PATtern GENerator program version 1.0 (Should be STE compatible) written in STOS basic by Dave Henniker The program will by itself generate patterns and cycle through the different palettes, however with a little persuasion the range of patterns can be influenced to produce different effects. At any time the screen may be saved in .NEO or .PI1 formats. To alter the patterns various keys are used and all these are shown in the Help screen which is accessible at any time when the program is running. If the screen is cluttered then pressing the * (asterisk) key clears it and drawing continues. If an interesting pattern is spoilt by a new pattern obliterating it then pressing Undo will cause the new pattern to disappear and the program will pause. In pause mode all the keys are still active. Jumping from one palette to another using the + and - keys can give special effects as black lines are skipped in some palettes. Skipping some modes of pattern drawing can be effective. Up arrow jumps to the next pattern. A chosen effect can often be achieved by pressing keys in a sequence eg: Undo, Right Arrow, Down Arrow, Up Arrow. This example would remove the pattern currently being drawn, restart from the point where it stopped, pause then jump to the next mode of drawing. Experimentation is worthwhile and hopefully you will find the program useful for generating background screens or pictures. If you have only the compiled version and would like the STOS basic program then send me a disk (preferably with something on it) and I'll return it with the basic version. A stamp or SAE would be appreciated. Any suggestions for enhancement (or bugs found) should also be addressed to: Dave Henniker, 199 Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh EH10 4DQ (Scotland UK).
