* IMG/DEGAS MONO/DEGAS COLOR * printer driver for DeskJet & LaserJet Version 5.54 ================== Congruatulations,you have downloaded best external printer driver for your DeskJet or LaserJet or DeskJet 500C (Black & White only). Note: The program you have downloaded has password protected but it is usable without the password but it will be DEMO version automatically until you register the program with secret password. To get the password for the printer driver,you must pay $25 registration fee to me. It is SHAREWARE program! Demo Version allow only 75DPI resolution mode,640x400 pixels (equiv. to DEGAS monochrome size) and landscape mode ONLY. It do *NOT* allow you to print any resolution other than 75DPI, ANY SIZE except 640x400 pixels or portrait mode unless you are registered user. It is designed to prevent anyone from printing FAX size file without paying $25 registration fee. If you are upgrading from Version 4.00 to 5.03 to 5.54 and you are registered user,just delete main program but DO *NOT* delete IMGID.PWD file. Put newly Version 5.54 to same directory where IMGID.PWD file exist. Exception: If you are upgrade from 5.04~5.53 to 5.54,do not delete old program,instead of run old program and click CREATE button to create IMGID.PWD file and quit the program. Then you can delete old program but leave IMGID.PWD file alone for new program to check. New Version 5.54 program will not read IMGID.PWD because the program have internal serial inside so it will be in DEMO mode. To upgrade to Version 5.54,just run Version 5.54 and say YES to alert that ask you if you want to enter password. Then it will ask secondary alert (NEW) ask you if you enter the password or load IMGID.PWD file. Click on LOAD button and it will automatically copy IMGID.PWD file to internal section and delete IMGID.PWD file. However, I may upload Version 5.54 or later to BBS,CompuServe or Genie. If this happens,just download new program and DO *NOT* delete old version program. You MUST run old version of the program and click CREATE button when alert appear to ask you if you want to create IMGID.PWD file for upgrade. Once IMGID.PWD file appear on your disk,you can delete old version of the program and run newer version and tell it to load IMGID.PWD file and the program automatically delete it. When you backup Version 5.54 printer driver program,you must also backup IMGID.PWD file if necessary. It ensure you keep full version. Your newly printer driver for DeskJet/LaserJet have many features you will LOVE to. It support monochrome IMG (compressed or uncompressed), monochrome degas (compressed or uncompressed),COLOR DEGAS (low only- compressed or uncompressed) or even Tiny files (Low or High Res). With Color Low Resolution Degas or Color Tiny, you can select brightess adjustment,you can select dithering method or even load Seurat dither file,you can select 512 or 4096 palette colour for Degas file. With Monochrome Degas or Tiny,you can load compressed or uncompressed file. With Monochrome IMG,you can load ANY size and also can load compressed IMG file as well! Decompression feature for Degas only is MUCH faster! * Color DEGAS file or Color Tiny file* Low resolution ONLY will be supported. Medium resolution is not supported. Just select "DEGAS" or "TINY" from alert box then ask you to locate the filename to be loaded into the memory. You will be asked to enter 2X2 or 4X4 dithering mode. 4X4 dithering is general dithering and require 128K RAM memory. 2X2 dithering is memory-ecomony dithering. It is useful for 520ST owners! After you select it,it will decompress it if it is compressed then ask you if you want to inverse the color (invert) on all areas then you will be asked for brightness adjustment. It is powerful feature you could like. Default is Normal but you can click DARK or LIGHT to adjust the brightness of resulted dithered picture to be printed. Just like makes the picture more darker or more brightness. If you select DARK or LIGHT,you will be asked to select strength of brightness adjustment factor - 1 to 12. 1 mean adjust slightly,3 mean adjust moderately,5 mean adjust very strong. 12 mean super light/dark adjustment. Example: if you select 2,you could see slightly difference of normal and result picture. If you select 5 or more,you will see BIG difference of normal and result picture. It makes the picture MUCH darker or MUCH ligher depend selection of method. Then you will be asked if you like to adjust contrast setting(s). If you say yes,enter number upon prompted. 1 mean lowest contrast mean all colors come closest to each other. 10 mean normal contrast and do not scaling colors. 20 mean highest contrast mean all colors come very far from each other result stronger effect on colors,bright would be brighest. Dark would be darkest. Setting contrast to 5 and setting brightness to lighter makes the picture light allow you to fax the picture to any fax machine that are very contrast sensentive that makes the picture too dark to be read. After that,you will be asked to select dithering method, it will be 0 to 7 or L. If you select 0 to 6,dithering the picture will begin. If you press 7 or L,file selector will appear and locate SEURAT dither file (*.DTH) to be loaded and click on OK button. 0 - Regular Dithering just like Version 5.03 or earlier. 1 to 4 - Color table dithering based on dither level depth. 1 - 2 colors 2 - 4 colors 3 - 8 colors 4 - all 16 colors just like TouchUp normal. 5 - Same as TouchUp special. 6 - SUPER quality - makes graphics extremely softest possible. 2X2 dithering have fixed method and do not have any options. Dithering will begin! Result of dithered picture will be 1280x800 pixels and 180x180 dots per inch. You can reduce to monochrome 640x400 by using scaling module and enter both X and Y as 0.5. * Mono DEGAS file or Mono Tiny file * Same as above except there is no dither for it since it is already monochrome picture. It support both compressed or uncompressed. Result of the picture will be 640x400 pixels and 90x90 dots per inch. * IMG file * It is most powerful feature of all. It can load any IMG that is MONOCHROME file. Only COLOR IMG is not supported. Click on "IMG" and you will be asked to locate IMG file to be loaded. It support both compressed or uncompressed format. After it is loaded,decompression begin if it is compressed. Note: Only IMG Version 1.00 can be loaded,most IMG file is Version 1.00. New feature in Version 5.54 allow you to see detailed information about IMG file you selected - show pattern,DPI,microns,hortizonal pixels and vertical pixels. After loaded IMG file,it will ask you if you want to see detailed information. * Preview * Total of hortizonal and vertical in pixels will be displayed on the screen, also display how much memory it have allocated before you preview the graphics picture. It allow you to view the picture before being printed. You can view monochrome picture on ANY monitor including Color Monitor and even BIG screen such TT. Press any cursor key to move the picture. Press 'Q' to exit preview mode. You can view FAX picture on this preview without have to become registered user. You can use any size on preview mode regardless of demo version or full version. * Scaling * This is BIG new feature for Version 5.54!! After you view the picture,it will ask you if you want to scale the picture. If you click YES,it will ask you for three scale options. FACTOR,TO DPI,DPI. If you click FACTOR,you will enter scale factor for each X and Y. You may enter from 0.01 to 100 for each X and Y. Accurary for input is 0.001,it is very fine adjustment. If you set factor to 2 for both X and Y,the picture would be doubled. If you set factor to 0.50 for both,the picture would be reduced half. If you click TO DPI or DPI,it will ask you if you want to use scale to HP Deskjet printer's 300x300DPI size. If you say YES,it will automatically scale to 300x300DPI so you can see perfect picture on WHOLE paper. (You must use 300DPI on resolution quality). If you say NO,you will enter DPI for each X and Y for target picture. If you click DPI (not TO DPI),you will asked for printer's DPI as above but you will also enter DPI for source picture (original picture), useful for you to set DPI for source picture where data from IMG file is not correct. After complete the input,scaling will begin. Percentage of scaling completed will be displayed on the screen during scaling process. * Save result of pic to IMG file * New feature to you in Version 5.54,for registered user,you can save any pictures (half-tone pictures or monochrome pictures) resulted into IMG file you want and also ask you if you want to compress IMG file. It is available ONLY to registered user,NOT in DEMO version. After the password is entered,save to IMG module will automatically be installed. New compression option in Version 5.54 - lastest feature. It allow you to adjust the compression on zeros. You can adjust minimum number of zeros must be un-compressed. You can set 2,3 or 5. Best compression is 3 - default - it must be least three zeros before can be compressed effectively prevent "extending" zeros with compression codes that might make IMG file bigger than uncompressed one! It now support solid-run,pattern-run AND scanline run instead of only solid-run on previous version(s). Pattern size is always set to 1 byte. * Printing * It is FINAL thing for you to do before printing to DeskJet or LaserJet printer! The printing process will NOT alter mode of quality on the printer. It is up to you to select quality mode on the printer. Select quality mode from the printer,you must use the printer's button! In Demo Version,you cannot print if the graphics size is NOT 640x400 pixels! You will be asked for resolution to select for printing. It will be 75,100,150 or 300DPI. 300DPI is most professional mode for big FAX file or printing laser-like graphics file. Demo Version allow only 75DPI. You will be asked to select portrait or landscape mode. Demo version allow only landscape mode. You will be asked to specify number of height per line. It is scale factor. If you enter 1 then print size will not be scaled. The scale affect only vertical part of print out paper size. Example: If you enter 2 then size of vertical will be doubled if portrait mode is selected. Size of hortizonal will be doubled if landscape mode is selected. If result of paper size is too long to fit in the paper,the error occured and inform you this and you must change resolution or scale or orientation mode. You will be asked to select AUTO or MANUAL page centering. If you select MANUAL,specify offset of X and Y for locating the graphics on the paper. If you select AUTO,it will ask for hortizonal justifity and you will select LEFT or CENTER or RIGHT. Then ask for vertical justifity and you will select TOP or CENTER or BOTTOM. Then printing will begin! Good Luck! During printing into the printer,percentage of process completed will be displayed on top of the screen so you are informed well. *** Upgrade to Version 4.20! *** * Faster DEGAS decompression than Version 4.00,it result 200%-300% faster than before!!! V4.20 is little faster than V4.10. * New Tiny support including decompression for Color Low and Mono. * Fixed the bug in Dither's color ordering that caused some colors to be non-ordered,Color 0,6,9,15 are correct but any color other than these on list are not properly ordered such Color 1 look like Color 8,Color 2 look like Color 4. This bug caused some colors on the picture appears wrong or non-balanced. Now all colors are ordered correctly during the dithering so the picture will be "near-exact" as original. These scheme I already developed for both Version 4.00 and Version 4.20 are much far better than Seurat's dithering method. * Faster dithering due to modification to some codes that result about 10% to 20% faster than Version 4.00. * Adjusted some in Centering AUTO mode. Some values inside is changed so the picture should be in exact center on the paper. * NEW! You can save any pictures resulted from decompression and dithering into IMG file. It support uncompressed and compressed format to be saved. *** Upgrade to Version 4.30! *** * New skip blank line feature allow printing to go much faster on blank lines. Before that,it always send all blank line to the printer result in waste time sending data(s). Now,it simply send linefeed when the program read blank lines from graphics file. It apply ONLY to portrait mode,will still print blank graphics line when landscape mode is selected. * New percentage of process complete status will be displayed during the printing the graphics into the printer. *** Upgrade to Version 4.32! *** * New advanced decoding check is now installed into IMG,Degas and Tiny graphics compressed file. The speed of decompression are same as previous version except IMG. IMG decompression is little slower due to heavy decoding check to avoid system crash if it try to decode damaged IMG file. If IMG file is damaged,it will still try to read partly Image picture but will stop decode at this point where bad code is and finished read the file and continue normally to ask you for invert and display the picture. It allow you to copy or save partly picture as good compressed IMG file rather than damaged IMG file. Version 4.30 or earlier didn't check for bad compression code and it will damage internal memory allocation table and could result in system crash when you try to load another graphic file and reallocating the memory. I had to modify my own program because I used Straight Fax program to load Chiang Store Image file and Straight Fax reported error decoding Image file when reading Chiang Store Image file which is damaged by TouchUp program at Chaing Store I got. I have converted damaged IMG file to good file by using new Version 4.32 IMGPRINT.PRG I made. Note: Fortunately,I didn't release Version 4.31 because scanline run decompression module in my program is accidentally bugged by me when I am accidentally removed width limit check while reading graphics file. Any graphics file that contains scanline run code will not able to be loaded with Version 4.31. I am removed seperate secondary IMG decompression for scanline run and put scanline run code inside primary IMG compression. It result in smaller program size. *** Upgrade to Version 4.51!!! *** Version 4.51 now have landscape option on save IMG file. It will generate 90 degree rotation during saving IMG file for other program such Straight Fax or Mega Professional to load for landscape printing or landscape faxing. When you load IMG file that saved as landscape IMG file,you will see 90 degree rotated picture will appear on the screen!!! Width and Height of the graphics area will also be transposed. Landscape option will take many seconds for small graphics to many minutes for big graphics. If you want to see preview immediately,you must reload new file from the disk before can display landscape effect on the screen. Dithering and Landscape conversion now have percentage complete status as just like printing. Dithering factor input have been upgraded,you can now set any value between 1 to 12. 1 mean slightest adjustment or "ultra-fine adjustment". 12 mean major adjustment. Example: If you click "LIGHT" and set to 12 then the picture will be super lighter than original picture you loaded. This allow you to adjust more finer than before. Hortizonal and Vertical Justification have been modified for easier use. You just select LEFT,CENTER or RIGHT for hortizonal just and select TOP,CENTER or BOTTOM for vertical justification. *** NEW! Upgraded to Version 5.00!!! *** Major upgraded version now feature NEW scaling option. It allow you to scale ANY picture from 0.01X to 100X original picture in accurary of 0.001!! It also feature scale to new DPI or you can pick DPI for orignal and pick another DPI for target. It also feature "express" scale that will scale the picture to 300DPI for Deskjet printer! It is useful for FAX that FAX contain 203DPIx196DPI or 203DPIx98DPI. Loading IMG will automatically use DPI provided by IMG file. Degas and Tiny will use 90DPIx90DPI for monochrome and 180DPIx180DPI for dithered color picture. I got bother from image-print adjustment bug in ALL versions prior to Version 5.00. I am finally found the problem, it is in print section of the program which forced the printer to print data beyond right of the picture data! It had been fixed. You also get detailed information about IMG file. It is only available to IMG file,not for Degas or Tiny. All DPI numbers are in float-point. Since most ST do not support 68882,I compiled this with standard math library (built-in) from Lattice C compiler. If you have TT and 68882,please mail request to address at bottom of this text. Scaling factor is also in float-point. When scaling begin,it will use my own special float point add/sub (not Lattice float-point) and converted to two integter - one for whole and one for fraction. It speed up over 30 times to 60 times faster than Lattice float-points. If you are using 68882,you will not notice anything. *** Version 5.01 *** It have been minor update to Version 5.01. Few minor bugs had been fixed. I have restructed the inputs so you now can press backspace to erase number you entered mistaken. Previous versions do not allow you to correct your mistake(s). Now it is updated into printer module. When you see error message that exceeded the page size limit for that picture,you will be asked for preview and rescale or change resolution without have to re-load same file and forced to re-scale from original picture. It is implemented for easier to change. It will save you lots of time try to correct size or resolution for printing. Another feature, when scaling is completed,memory clean-up takes place to free-up temporary memory used by scale. You now can able to re-scale without wasting previous memory allocated. It only apply to reducing scale,not enlarging scale. *** Upgrade to Version 5.02 *** I have updated to Version 5.02 since I got new Lattice C V5.5! I recompiled all source code to be optimized by SUPER optimizer. Old Lattice C V5.0 optimizer is regular optimizer but Lattice C V5.5 have SUPER optimizer. Super optimizer did made IMG loading,DEGAS or TINY much faster with heavy validity check!!! I know that heavy validity check slow down loading IMG or TINY file on pre-Version 5.02. Now I am shocked that new Lattice C V5.5 did major impact on loading module (made it much faster!!!), thanks to new SUPER optimizer (with colouring and aliasing). I also changed little code in scaling to make scaling moderately faster on expanding the picture(s). If you are using TT,loading IMG or DEGAS or TINY would takes only fraction of the second to complete! Optionally,you can mail request to me if you want to use 68882 co-processor with IMGPRT54.PRG since it uses float-point for scaling and setting DPI. Currently,it is equipped with software only math library unless you request for real 68882 co-processor. Also optionally,IMGPRT54.PRG's TT flags is OFF when you download it. You may turn on these flag by using TT flags modifier program. IMGPRT54.PRG support TT RAM but will be loaded into ST RAM unless you turned on TT flags on program's filename (IMGPRT54.PRG). *** Upgrade to Version 5.03 *** It now support letter AND legal size paper. Previously,it support only letter size paper. *** Upgrade to Version 5.04 *** All features are same as Version 5.03. However it has serial number/validation number inside the program rather than IMGID.PWD file. See instruction near top of this document. This ensure MUCH greater security and difficult to find out where serial number and password code from. Dithering program is changed. It now support 1 regular dithering and 6 levels of "simpling" dithering. It still have external dithering which load .DTH file. These higher level of dithering will make more better quality and will NOT slow down anything at all! *** Upgrade to Version 5.50 *** New contrast adjustment feature in dithering to make color scaling effect additional into color dithering. There is range from 1 to 20. 1 mean lowest contrast. 10 mean normal. 20 mean highest contrast. Setting 20 mean big color scaling effect, makes dark become darkest and make bright become brightest. New business dithering feature (8X8 dithering). It provide 64 level gray-scale halftone dithering for business quality picture which to be faxed or other. It require 512K RAM to operate it. It comes 360DPI but you can reduce to 200DPI by scaling to be able to be FAXed. It is MOST powerful dithering available!! General dithering (4X4 dithering) is still available to casual user who have budget on memory or have tight memory. *** Upgrade to Version 5.51 *** I am found many 520ST owners are very hard to ditering by 4X4 because it require 128K addition to existing program. Because of this,I removed 8X8 dithering and replaced with 2X2 dithering. 2X2 dithering is "economy" dithering. 4X4 dithering is normal dithering. 8X8 dithering is removed because most business people like 4X4 and it is still best. 4X4 require 128K memory and 2X2 require only 32K memory! Default for press [RETURN] on alert box will select 4X4 dithering mode. For business people, my 4X4 dithering is general best quality but if you want top of the line quality more than best quality,please buy commerical program called Style V1.0 or Stipple to get best quality for dithering. See below if you want to purchase these products, both products are not developed by me but developed by Craig Buchanan,author of commerical graphics programs. The bug in preview mode will cause the graphics to appear with wrong colour when running on TT medimum because colour index is GEM index,not TOS index. This bug has been fixed and it will now appear in black. GEM color index must be 1,not 15 - that number I used as mistake. *** Upgrade to Version 5.52 *** I have implemented new compression method for saving IMG files. Previous versions,I have implemented standard compression method for compressing data for saving IMG files. Now this version and later,I have implemented FULL compression method inclduing patterns run AND scanline run as well as regular solid-run compression!!! It makes new IMG files much smaller than regular IMG files. Existing commerical program including shareware older version of IMG printer program can still load efficent new IMG files created by this version of IMG printer program. Beta version 5.52a which I didn't released have big bug in new compression method that caused file to be extended with garbled data after end of the image when scanline run is used!!! It can cause the file to be much larger than non-compression IMG file and also causes strange happen when load garbled IMG file. I have fixed big bug before I release the program to the public! *** Upgrade to Version 5.53 *** OOPS! Version 5.52 has another big bug in IMG compression! It does not corrupt IMG files but however have too much extended codes! It always compress 1 or 2 zeros or solid that not supposed to be compressed. This bug has been fixed and will not compress any zeros or solid that have very small numbers such one zero or one solid byte! It will now compress only when zeros or solid byte has large of repeats. See saving IMG above about adjusting minimum number of zeros or patterns must be repeated before can compress these data. It is effective prevent extending zeros or patterns with many compression codes that are not needed. It result IMG files in SUPER compression as ever!!! I hope I have best compression method. It also have new filename HPIMG553.PRG rather than HPIMG55.PRG. It will prevent confusion and less likely to conflict with old program's same filename. *** Upgrade to Version 5.54 *** There is new small feature allow you to print graphics on HP Deskjet printer with skip-off mode. It will allow more space for bigger IMG or graphics that could not be printed with Version 5.53. It is beta testing and may be perfect if possible. There is small chance HP Deskjet will clip edge of the pictures but I do not think it will clip much of edge(s) of the picture. LETTER - 8x10 inch letter with skip perf on. LETTER2 - 8.5x10.5 inch letter with skip perf off subject to clip LEGAL - 8x14 inch legal with skip perf on. If you select LETTER2 and find some picture is "clipped",try to select TOP and LEFT mode instead of CENTER to get more pictures on the paper with mininal clipping from HP Deskjet printer. ************************ * BONUS OFFER!!! * You will get free Bezier program that will draw bezier curves with many quality levels. It require FONT-GDOS or FSM-GDOS to be loaded before the program can use bezier facilities of Font/FSM GDOS. When you run the program, it will ask you how much difference width on the screen,more number will make bezier curve wider. After that,it will draw at lowest quality level (about 5%),press any key to step to finer quality level and repeat until reached 100% (super fine) then press any key to quit the program. With ST (Old TOS), maximum points may be 98 but it is extended to 194 points on TT computer. Tip: If quality level is set to 100%,drawing will be slower than ususal. Super fine quality is not supported on ST old TOS so it will simply return fine quality instead. IMG printer driver program do NOT require Font GDOS or FSM GDOS to run. Rainbow TOS V1.4 and above *DO* support super fine quality and return 194 points on 100% quality selected. ************************ *NOTE*: If you want to print FAX size IMG file or laser-like quality IMG file,you MUST enter the password!
