Shoemaker and David H. Levy report their discovery of another comet on films exposed with the 0.46-m Schmidt telescope at Palomar, as shown below. The comet is diffuse with condensation; the image on Nov. 15 may be involved with a faint star. The comet appears as a very diffuse trail on a 48-min plate taken by C. Brewer with the Oschin Schmidt telescope on Nov. 16. 1991 UT R.A. McNaught, Anglo-Australian Observatory, reports his dis- covery of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.5) in ESO 471-G30 (= MCG -05-56-27) on an I plate taken Nov. 13.4 UT by K. S. Russell with the U.K. Schmidt Telescope. The supernova is located at R.A. = 23h49m40s.10, Decl. = -29 43'10".6 (equinox 1950.0, uncertainty 0".2 in R.A. and 0".6 in Decl.), or 12".1 west and 23".0 north of the center of the galaxy. No star appears in this position on the SERC J or the ESO R and B surveys. A nearby star (mag about 18.5) is situated closer to the nucleus (6".7 west and 17".6 north) with end figures 40s.52, 16".0.
