      Welcome to probably the best all round astronomy
      program for the S.T.

      The Astrolab program on this disc is version 0.7 and
      contains many improvements over the 0.6 version. Not
      least of these is the fact that is now runs on any ST
      including the 520 and that all the drag of converting
      the star data files (a 20 minute task and requiring ram
      disks and one meg memories) is avoided. The program
      is now ready to load and run.
      To start just click on ASTROLAB.PRG. At the bell
      press return and you'll reach the desktop. Select
      "File" and click on DATEN (Ersetzen). At the file
      selector box choose one of the three data files (the
      figures refer to the limiting magnitude). When it has
      loaded click on the right button and you are presented
      with the standard star field. To add more stars click
      on the right button to return to the desktop, select
      file again, then DATEN (and this time Anfugen - which
      means merge). You can load all three data files like
      this which gives you a spectacular stellar view. You
      can always control the number of stars on screen by
      altering the magnitude limit with the "+" and "-" keys
      on the numeric keypad. You'll find that the numbers
      also change the field of view.
      Clicking on the figures in the status line at the top
      of the screen allows you to change all the
      settings. From the left these are type of projection,
      Bildw  =  Angle  of view in degrees (255  to  6);  L  =
      longitude (” means east, w is west); Br = latitude (n
      or s); Azimut = direction of view around horizon in 360
      degrees (north is 0); H”he = angle of vertical view
      (+90 means you are looking straight up,-90 gives the
      view view under yuour feet); zeit = time and of course
      the date.
      There is much more, so attached is a brief translation
      of the other terms used.

      Ekliptic     =    Ecliptic (yes, really)
      Himmelsqu„   =    Celestial equator
      Horizont     =    Horizon
      Raster = grid lines (as in RA and dec)+ means
                        fine, - is coarse.
      Stauszeille  =    Status line
      Sternbilder  =    Constellation outlines.
      Tierkris = Signs of the zodiac.
      Sternnamen   =    Star names.
      Mauslock = sets higher rate for data change in
                        status line.
      H™heblock = sets horizon low on screen.
      Mischen = holds star images so that trails are
                        produced under time movement.
      Reverse = Black or white background.
      Pr„zession = adds computation for precession when
                        plotting star positions,.
      Voreinstellšng= Window to enter details, time date
                        position, etc.

      Finally; many of the ST's facilities work (rubber
      banding with the mouse to select a screen view,
      clicking with both mouse buttons - generally the left
      advances data, the right button reverses it) Several
      keys are "live" particularly the functions keys.
      Remember if you are watching the skies wheel about they
      move faster with the number of stars cut down, so press
      the "-" numeric key while getting to where you want to
      go and then put them all back with the "+".
