(Yes, I'm that far behind in my reading!) Now for my question/comment. I've read through all the messages on here, and I too was not happy about the way some "transfers" did not appear on my statement. I can deal with the monthly delay of credit cards, but for car payments, I regard that as an expense (given that my car will probably have zero value by the time I finish paying it off!). But I think I found a solution--or perhaps I'm just deceiving myself because I'm a new user. I created a "standard transaction" with a transfer from "checking" to "Ford Credit", and then I got sneaky. I next make a "SPLIT" payment for $0 from Ford Credit to "Interest" and "Car Payment" for $50 and $250 (or whatever). The program doth protest briefly, but it lets you get away with this even though 50+250 doesn't equal 0. In fact, I can even go back and edit the standard transaction and eliminate the first line of the SPLIT payment completely. The result seems to do what I hear some folks wishing for on here. The payment registers as a decrease in my Ford Credit liability account, and it appears on my monthly expense list, but it does NOT double bill me in any of the summary financial statements as far as I can tell. Have I just done something brilliant or utterly stupid? Your comments (especially if the former) would be much appreciated. ---Steve ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 2 Sun Jul 12, 1992 J.MEEHAN3 [>> Joe M << ] at 11:53 EDT Steve, I think you found a good solution for your needs. If I remember correctly the "problem" some users had was a result of the way they were keeping their records. Not a real problem with Pha$ar, but rather the lack of a feature they would like to have. You should not have a problem. BTW that is about the same method I use. >> Joe Meehan << ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 3 Tue Jul 21, 1992 J.KUDRON [Jim~ST Sysop] at 05:57 EDT Messages #1-187 have been archived and are in the library-File #24989 Jim Kudron 21Jul92 ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 4 Fri Jul 24, 1992 R.RIDDLE3 [The Riddler] at 00:13 EDT I'm having a printing problem with PHA$ER. I have a Tandy 24 pin Dot Matrix printer. I've set the "UserPrefrences" to my printer (Dot Matrix and Screen print) and have run a test print. It prints: This is the top printable line. This line should be in condensed mode. (which it's not) The numbers in the next line (50,100,132) should be right justified. Then on the next line there is a 50 and a line that goes off the page. -------- --------------------------------------------------------------- (If I try to run two "print tests" in a row ,the second does not print unless I turn the printer off and then back on.) I save the user preferences and then go to "Print Cash Flow Summary" and nothing happens. The printer just sits there like no messages are being sent to it. I've tried turning the printer of and then back on to reset it and still nothing happens. Any ideas on how to get this working would be greatly appreciated. RIDDLER ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 5 Fri Jul 24, 1992 J.MEEHAN3 [>> Joe M << ] at 06:50 EDT Riddler, I would start by checking the manual with the Tandy and resetting it to standard defaults. Most Tandys use the control pannel to set the defaults. Second is Pha$ar. The print default should be to "Printer" or Query. If you are set to print to screen, it won't print to printer will it? If after resetting all the printer settings back to their defaults you might need to change some Pha$ar setting in the custom printer settings, you will need your printer manual. >> Joe Meehan << ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 6 Sun Jul 26, 1992 M.PASEK [HUMANIST] at 15:07 EDT I've been a PHA$SAR user for awhile. RIDDLER ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 10 Thu Jul 30, 1992 L.DOWDLE1 [Scott Dowdle] at 02:59 EDT Gee Whiz Gang, I'm expecting my newly purchased USED copy of Pha$er to arrive any day. I saw someone selling it in the For Sale Topic so I grabbed it up with a few other things. The only financial program I've purchased in the past Home Accountant from the defunct Habba Software. I like it... but my wife has gotten used to Quicken on my brother-in-laws MS-DOS clone. I'm hoping that Pha$er will rival Quicken. Any comments? Our main feature need out of a financial software package is to inter- relate accounts... we have a lot of medical bills stemming from a newly born son (with renal problems). Luckily, I have great insurance but I still have to pay some... and there are a lot of people asking for money. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage insurance claims, payments and balances? Oh yeah, yet another question... the version of Pha$er I'm getting is supposedly the next to newest version. What is the latest version, what are the differences, and is anyone supporting upgrades right now? If so, how much? ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 11 Thu Jul 30, 1992 J.MEEHAN3 [>> Joe M << ] at 06:22 EDT Scott, Congratulations on Pha$ar. I believe you and your wife will like it. There are a number of ways to set up accounts to track you insurance payments. Do you know at the time of the first bill, how much will be paid or is it a guess until you get the check? When do you pay for the services (when received, when billed, after the insurance has paid it's part?) I would likely set up an account for insurance due. When I paid a bill that I expected to be reimbersed for I would pay the bill from Checking and add a transaction to the insurance account for (negative) their amount due, resulting in a account payable. When the inusrance was paid I would then show a transfer from the checking account to the insurance account. Use the "Note" field to indicate date of service, type of service etc to help you identify the transaction later. >> Joe Meehan << ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 12 Thu Jul 30, 1992 M.PASEK [HUMANIST] at 19:01 EDT Thanks for the welcome. Now, independently of that, one might also decide to invest in stocks or mutual funds. How would one set that up as an account _and_ as an income, or would it be an expense and an income? First I know nothing of LaserBrain. I'm more of a candleBrain myself. Most lasers cannot print a full 66 line, 11 inch page. Most programs like Pha$ar expect a 66 line (6 lpi) page. You may need to do some adjusting. Work with your set up in Pha$ar. It's not too difficult to get right. Bu sure your Laser is turned on -before- you run Pha$ar. It does not like it if it does not find a printer online when it loads. Pha$ar is funny about buffers and Lasers. Without one it is very slow. With many it will not print at all. Ken Van Dellen d8^) ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 88 Wed Dec 30, 1992 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 19:54 EST I got my contribution checks printed today, 42 of them, and in the mail before the end of the year. The SLM804 worked like a charm with LaserBrain. Thanks for the help, Joe. I shortened the page length to 63 lines, and made sure I had the printer turned on _before_ booting PHA$AR. I think the page length was probably not the critical factor. After Joe mentioned it, I recalled hearing that printer story before. I entered all of the check data, and then did a search in the "view/edit" option for the checks I had written, with the selections set for printing checks and sorting by check number. That allowed me to experiment, because I could select for printing any check I wanted to. I kept some that had printed OK yesterday, and renumbered (in PHA$AR) some that had not come out so well. (I noticed that renumbering the main item in a split series evoked a question about renumbering the sub-items when in the "enter new" option, but only a warning in the "view/edit" option. I thought the new version _always_ did an update, but it doesn't. The slider on the listing of entries in the "enter new" option allows the user to go back and edit previous entries and return to entering by pressing ESC. That is where an update on splits occurs. It's a nice feature. Something strange happened while printing, and I recall having a problem with it a year ago, also. Somehow the numbers of the checks get changed in PHA$AR in the "view/edit" option. For example, I found that the numbers might go 43, 43, 44, 44, 45, 45, etc., when they had been input as 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, etc. I had to do some renumbering to fix it. I just renumbered in the option, clicked on the item that had the same number as the blank check I was holding, and fed the check into the manually feed. It worked fine. Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 102 Mon Jan 11, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 22:15 EST All, Remember, Cash flow might be a negative amount also. As for Cash being nocashflow, there is a cash exspense and a net cash exspense. Lets say you write a check for $10 over purchase. When you enter the transaction on Phasar, you use spilt trans. The purchase goes under the proper cat. Groceries etc. The Cash goes into cash cat. When you put the $10. in cash, it actually goes into to cats. Cash(cash total) and Net Cash(the amount of cash you have left in your pocket, and or the cash you spent without enter the spending in Phasar). Now when you spend cash and enter it into Phasar, the amount in Net Cash will be reduced by the amount of that transaction, but the Cash total Cat will remain the same. So what you do is budget an amount that can be spent without being entered into Phasar. This budgeted amount SHOULD BE what is left in Net Cash. When you go to an ATM and take money from your checking acct. that should be transfered to the Cash acct. This is actually puting money into the total and net cash cats. and works just like the above example. In other words the account and cat. are the same thing. As for Credit cards etc. these accts. can be made cash flow or no cash flow. If you want to make sure you are bringing the balance down on an acct. make it a cashflow acct. and budget it for the amount you want it to come down each month. If you know you will pay it off each month, then just make it nocashflow. It really can help bring thoughs balances down. As for the Tax templates, I hope to have them ready by the end of the month. For those of you who have keeped accurate records in Phasar, I will (hopefully) have a list included of Tax Codes, either from the Phasar Manual or that I made up if the manual didnt have them, so that you can just go into your budget and enter the codes, then go into the Phastax.prg and fill in a few cells ie. name SSN, verify the figures and your done. The template will include 1040 long, Sch A & B, and Form 8606(nondeductible IRA Contributions). I am also concidering the IRA worksheets on Page 19 & 20 of the tax book. If anyone has comments, suggestions, or would like to make contrbutions to the template, let me know either here or by E-mail. Mike, You may very well be right! I don't know. That is why I brought it up. I dont see why we cant send E-mail to the IRS with our forms printed out in ASCII? I was hopeful that there might be someone with Ideas about this. Is there really something I can read on the subject? Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 113 Fri Jan 15, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 00:08 EST Ron, No thats not quite right. Puting a charge account as Cash Flow is done so that you can see how much money is going into or comming out of that account. Example: George has put to many things on his Master Card. Now he wants to bring the balance back down over time. To make sure he is bringing the balance down, he makes it a Cash Flow acct. He budgets $25. a month to that account. Now if he still spends to much money with his Master Card, say $50. more than what he puts into that account, his Cash Flow Report will show - $75. Cash Flow to that Acct(Note that was a negative amount). Now that will tell George that he had more money going out of his Master Card acct than he had going in. Also, his overall Cash Flow will be $75. more positive(or less negative depending on Georges spending habits) than if he had not spent that $50. and made a payment of $25. Making an acct. Cash Flow or NoCashFlow will have no effect on exspense catagories. Either way, if George uses his Master Card to go to the restarant, and enters that into the Restarant Cat. the Restarant Cat. will show the money spent. If the Master Card acct. is made a Cash Flow acct though, it will also show that much less going into the Master Card acct. Hope this helps, but if not let me know. Anna, You are probably right! Maybe what I need to do is ask Genie If they have a way to do it, or if it must be done through a licensed Preparer. I just feel as Mike Keller does, that we do have the ability to do it so it SHOULD be allowed. Joe, I have used my Phasar forms in the past to mail my return without any problem. Bill ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 114 Fri Jan 15, 1993 J.GNIEWKOWSK [GE-Lamp ST] at 20:38 EST Bill, I would like to contribute some help making the templates. If you could tell me the ones which you have not gotten to and would like to include, please let me know. I've done some work with the templates (making a net worth statement and a consumables expense report) so I may be able to muddle through on a simple one. The budgeting accounts was a _real_ help in making a realistic budget. Let me give an example on how helpful this is. I have been putting $150 a month into my savings account for school. The month my bill is due I have $1200 budgeted in the 'Education' expense. I transfer $700 from the Savings to checking that I have saved and pay the bill. Even though I have a close to $0 cash flow for the month, I find myself with plenty of money in my checking account! What happened? I didn't budget for the influx of $700 from my savings account. Usinf the Accounts budget, I budget my savings account for -$700 that month and, viola, my cash flow is now faithfully reflecting how much money I have to spend. Thanks all, John E. Your fans are going to wonder how to fiddle (uh, viola) with their cash flow. When I transfer money, I just put the destination account in as payee. For example, Savings 1/15/93 Checking [I think it automatically puts XFER OUT in the next location] $700; then it automatically puts in Checking 1/15/93 Savings [I think it puts XFER IN in the next location] $700. What I had in mind when I mentioned contributions, was forms that others may have need for or would like to see in a template that is to be uploaded. So John, if you want any other forms that I have not mentioned, or if someone else has a request for certain forms, I'd be glad to have those forms made so that I might include them. Who knows, I might need them myself someday. One form I might suggest is a Schedule E. I dont need one, but I have in the past and someone else may love to have it included. I'm also glad to hear that I was able to help you in budgeting accounts. Another way to use that feature is this. I do not have budget Cat. for vacation. I have a savings Acct. that I have named Vacation. I budget a certain amount to that Acct. and at Vacation time I make a NoCashFlow withdrawel from that Acct. Works great. Anna, Are you absolutely sure that we cant send our returns in via E-mail? If so I will give up the Idea right now. If not, let push for it and see what we can find out. I KNOW there must be a whole lot of people that want to file this way. There is STRENTH in numbers....:) Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 120 Sun Jan 17, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 08:37 EST John, Ken Van is correct. I do transfers that way all the time. Another interesting point, you can include transfers as part of a multiple transaction too! Suppose you want to put $25 from Checking to savings. Lets say you are going to have Phasar print a check to do this also. You wont want the payee on the check to say "Savings", you will want it to have the name of the institution where the savings acct. is. To do this, put the payee name you want on the check in under payee, then under catagory enter SPL for (Split Transaction). Next enter the check # and the $25. amount. Phasar will then ask for the 1st exspense catagory. Now type in XFER. Phasar will then bring you back to the payee entry on the 2nd line of the Split Transaction. you can now enter the acct. you want to transfer the money to. you then just finish the transaction as you normally would. When you go to print the check, the payee will be the name of the bank where your savings acct. is. This is just a little trick which has come in handy for me. Hope I didnt bore any one. There doesnt seem to be a way to add forms to the Phasar.tax file other than to make them. This is not a major problem, because if someone needed a form that wasnt in their Phasar. tax file, but they were able to d/l it, they could put it in a seperate Phasar.tax file and use it that way (it just would not be able to automaticly share info with the other Phasar.tax file). ******************WARNING WARNING WARNING************************** I just had a big set back! If you are making tax forms in Phasar, DO NOT ALLOW THERE TO BE TOO MANY CELLS REFERENCING NONEXSISTING CELLS!!!! I was renaming forms. This is done by cloning & deleting. Secondly, how did you find out about this since it is not in the manual? ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 126 Wed Jan 20, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 07:29 EST Ken Van & John, Thanks for the sympathys! I'm just about back to were I was before the crash. I find that the experience I gained from working on it so much before the lock-up has made my progress since, much faster. At the time of the crash I was in Phastax and using Maxifile as an ACC to back-up the tax file to floppy. I think what happenned is that I just over taxed(no pun intended) RAM. I had just Cloned and deleted a bunch of forms to change their names. Many Cells were referencing other Cells that nolonger existed because the forms were deleted. Also I figured out later that it does no good to back-up this way unless you first do a "Save Tax File". Phasar doesnt Save every time you back out of a form, just when you quit the program. So RAM must have been very busy and just got Pi??ed off and decided to teach me a thing or 2. Oh well! Heres to beening older and wiser. I have never had that problem, but 25 SPLITS? It may have something to do with saving the data. After so many transactions, Phasar does update the .REG. Do you have a hard disk? Is it possible you have filled you disk to full? Another possiblity might be, did you at some point enter an amount, then tab back and change something? That sometimes seems to cause Phasar to lose track, esspecially if you entered an amount that would have been more that the remaining amount of the whole transaction. Let us know if you find out anything for sure. Good luck! In fact I did what you suggested, I tabbed back when I noticed that the amount remaining was no longer there, just a blank. I couldn't find anything wrong so I went ahead completed the transaction, when I got down to where it should be zero, the program wanted more data. So I tabbed back to the beginning and checked each amount, same thing. Then I totaled the ticket up on the adding machine to make sure the total was right, it was, so I deleted the whole transaction and did it over, this time extra special careful, no tabbing back with the same result. I did notice that after the 25th split the payee column was blank. I have a body shop and I'm attempting to use Phasar for the bookkeeping. Phasar isn't really meant to run a business, however I'd probably use it if I were you too. Also, try making sure that, if you have a long transaction like that, that there are no other transactions ahead of it. In other words, if you are entering transactions, and you come to a long one like that, exit out of Transaction mode and go back in to enter that big one. I don't know if any of this will work or if it is worth it or you have some other problem causing this behavior, but it's all I can come up with. Good luck and keep us posted. If you use the IRS Chart, there are only 2 cells you should need to do anything to. You will recongnize them because the have questions associated with them. Both must be answered in the cells. EVERYONE SHOULD ANSWER THE QUESTIONS!!!! They are "Did you live with your spouse" and "Did your spouse work". One is in the 1st part of the Chart, the other is near the front of Worksheet 1. Also, DO FORM 1040 DOWN TO LINE 30 (SKIPPING LINES 16,24A, & 24B) BEFORE YOU TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF THE IRA CHART!!! If you have an amount for line 16 and line 24a or 24b, let me know. Hope it helps some of you. Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 157 Wed Feb 03, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 23:49 EST Thomas, I'm not sure I understand your Question. What is DBL? Are you talking about Medicare you recieved or paid. In the Tax file I thought I put tax codes (Some of which came from my own head) in for any cell that could use them. I need to know more about what it is your having trouble with. John, That does happen sometimes and I could'nt seem to get rid of it. However, If you highlight that cell in browse mode, hit return 3 times, click on OK, and recalculate, it will correct itself. Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 158 Thu Feb 04, 1993 T.HORNIG [Thomas] at 00:17 EST BILL, I boss told me today that DBL goes on the report as CASDI along with some other stuff. Where should I put this? about these codes I don't know how to let Phasar know what to tax and what not. Here are the categories on my W2 Form: Federal Income tax withheld $... Wages, Tips, Other Compensations $... Social Security tax withheld $.... Medicare Tax Withheld $.... State/Local Income tax $... Other: CASDI $... Would be great if you could help me on this! Thomas ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 159 Thu Feb 04, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 21:03 EST All, I have to correct something I said earlier about the Tax file. About the 2 questions in the IRA Chart, I said they both have to be answered. Well what I should have said is, they both must be `X'ed if they are true, even if they dont apply. For example, if your Filing Status is Married filing jointly, and you lived with your spouse, you must put an X in the cell by the question "If you lived with your Spouse during the year, check this box." No matter what your situation, if you lived with your spouse, put an X in that cell. John, You will find that when you put an X in that box, you will no longer get that "yes" in the married filing separately cell. P.S. to all The same applies to the cell at the beginning of Worksheet 1. It must be check if the statement with it is true. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 160 Thu Feb 04, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 21:33 EST Thomas, First off, I have never heard of DBL or CASDI. Can anyone else help Thomas on this? Next, in reguards to codes, if you look at the cells in the tax file I made and you downloaded, many of them will have something like this "\103" in them. any time you see a "\" infront of a number like that, it is a code I used to tell Phasar to go to the budget catagories and find one with a code that matches the number after the "\". So what you need to do is to determine the catagories that have amounts that go in that cell and give them that code. For instance, \130 is Unemplyment Compensation. If you recieved unemployment during 1992 you should have an income budget catagory for it and you should give it the code 130. Now Phasar will put that amount in that cell. As for what is on your W-2, Thomas you are really going to have to tak a look in the Tax booklet for Form 1040. It gives instructions on all this things. It goes throuh the form 1040 line by line. Take a look at it and then if I you need more help let me know. Remember though, I am not an account and cannot give Tax advise. I can really only help you to understand how to use the Phasar Tax file I uploaded. Hope this helps some. :) Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 161 Fri Feb 05, 1993 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 07:21 EST >However, If you highlight that cell in browse mode, hit return 3 >times, click on OK, and recalculate, it will correct itself. ...and turn around 3 times with your eyes closed under a full moon? ;^) Ken Van Dellen d8^) ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 162 Fri Feb 05, 1993 D.WALTER7 [Doug Walter] at 23:11 EST Joe, and all, The latest version of Pha$ar is 4.09. Ken Van Dellen d8^) ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 166 Sat Feb 06, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 10:42 EST Thanks Ken Van! I almost forgot about that. Yes, you must turn around 3 times with your eyes closed under a full moon cause thats the hokey pokey, and thats what its all about. :D Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 167 Sat Feb 06, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 11:02 EST Doug, Whats the difference between $.08 & 4.09? Andy, Thanks for clearing that up. Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 168 Sat Feb 06, 1993 J.BOSSOLINI1 at 12:57 EST I just received my upgrade to Pha$ar on Thursday (2/4/93) and it says Pha$ar 4.09, 1/18/93. I don't know what the changes from 4.08 were, since there was no documentation with it, but it did include a 1040 and schedule A for 1992 taxes! Joe ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 169 Sat Feb 06, 1993 T.HORNIG [Thomas] at 20:47 EST Thanks for the hint on CASDI, but on what form do I write this, my SocSec and my Medicare ??? How much is it to update from 4.06 to 4.09 where can I get the update? By the way ever since I installed the new 92 taxfiles my computer freezes in certain screens like the expense screen I always have to reboot and go to PHA$AR to add or change any of the tax codes in the income/expense screens I figure it's because I use 4.06. would be nice if I could avoid that. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 170 Sat Feb 06, 1993 A.MASON4 [Anna] at 21:10 EST Thomas, FICA taxes are sometimes divided by employers into two deductions instead of one .....regardless of which method is used the total amount deducted from your paycheck is the same. For example: a. the percentage used for FICA when it is the only listed deduction is 7.65% of your gross pay . b. the percentage when it is split is Social Security -- 6.2% and Medicare -- 1.45% Hope this helps. Anna ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 171 Sat Feb 06, 1993 J.GNIEWKOWSK [GE-Lamp ST] at 22:39 EST Joe, What are the upgrade requirements and price (if you know)? I have 4.03, so I must be _waaaaay_ behind the power curve, being the upgrade maven that I am! Thanks for the info, and if you don't know, I'll be calling Terrific on Monday, and I'll post and let everyone knows how it went on Monday night! Sincerly, John E. Gniewkowski Editor, GEnieLamp ST ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 172 Sun Feb 07, 1993 D.WALTER7 [Doug Walter] at 01:41 EST Bill - I don't know yet. I ordered an upgrade from 3.02 (yah, I know), and it hasn't arrived yet. I'll probably never know the _minor_ differences ;-) But somethin tells me it's gonna be a whole lot different than 3.02! Doug7 ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 173 Sun Feb 07, 1993 A.PEERAND [andy] at 12:12 EST Thomas CASDI has nothing to do with SocSec or Medicare. it is treated the same as an state income tax deduction on your federal forms,(scd A). If you had 2 or more employers last year, read the state tax booklet on how to claim a refund on the excess amount.(if any) Andy ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 174 Sun Feb 07, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 13:55 EST Thomas, Your computer, I dont believe is really freezing. I have noticed this problem too. I think that the file is so big, with so many calculations that it has really slowed down certain operations. I think if you check your drive you will see that it is busy and I have found that I can wait it out. I do recomend writing down code that you wish to add, change or delete, and then go into the regualar Phasar program for that. It saves a lot of time. Note: you will have a similiar problem when you make changes to some of the cell. If you see that your HD light blinking away it will stop, it is just working hard. Doug, You will notice a lot of change between 3.02 and 4.09, I'm sure. All, I have found that I also need a Schedule D. I have therefore added to my own copy of the template a Schedule D. I am omitting Parts VI & VII as I don't need them. It will be done today. If I uploaded it, would any of you use it? If I don't get substancial response I won't bother. So let me know. I hope they aren't updating 2 forms and charging $25. for that every year. At least if that is what is going on It should be made clear. I do want to have the latest best working version of Phasar, but I sure dont want to pay for updated tax file forms unless there are some awful major changes in them. Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 179 Mon Feb 08, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 22:11 EST Ron, I'm am sorry to hear that you are having problems. I'd like to help. This upload was my way of trying to help others as I have recieved so much help here online. At what point did the tax file bomb on you? Did you see my previous post to Thomas about the freezing? How much RAM do you have? The file is working fine for me. Let me know just what is happening and maybe we can get it working right for you. Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 180 Wed Feb 10, 1993 R.KOHORN [RON] at 02:01 EST Bill, You were right. The program doesn't actually freeze, it just works hard and long! What is taking so long with this seemingly simple addition to the files? Thanks for putting what must have been an enormous amount of work into this project. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 181 Wed Feb 10, 1993 O-ZONE [Flakes] at 19:15 EST Well, "Cut the muster" is a military term. I can't imagine why anyone would want to slice mustard. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 182 Wed Feb 10, 1993 K.HEINRICHS [K.Heinrichs] at 23:12 EST FYI - For those of you that have or are thinking of buying a HP LaserJet 4 and wondering if Pha$ar is compatible, the answer is yes. Here is what I found that works. A must is using a fixed spacing font (I use font 0). Then I set my preferences as follows: Printer type: Custom Reset String: Indent Colums: 0 Pause after : No Lines per page: 60 CR/LF combination: & 132- col Mode: Yes 132-col on string: <27>(s0p16.67H 132-col off string: <27>(0p12H Hope this helps those having trouble. K.Heinrichs ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 183 Thu Feb 11, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 21:09 EST Ron, Exactly why the program slows in some operations, I'm not sure. I think there may be a loop that I have overlooked or something. There is so much referencing from cell to cell, form to form, its just hard to say. I think though that once you have it set-up for your specific needs, I will serve you just fine. The file has been a lot of work, but I'd like it to be better. I'll be continueing to work on it from time to time this year and hope to have something better for next year complete with instructions. It will include a Sch. D and probably a Sch. D1. I want it to be so automactic that people can just sit down for an hour or so and have their current year taxes done and have a projection for next year(provided they don't need forms that aren't included. As you probably noticed, I tried to make it so that once you enter your filing status, and checked a couple of things on the IRA chart, the thing will automaticly put yours and your spouses IRA deduction in the proper cell. This might be why the thing is slow at times. That required a lot of (and) and (or) type functions. Well Ron, I hope it is working OK for you and let me know if you have any other questions. Flakes, Your probably right! But isn't mustard a plant or something that that the workers in the field used to have to cut, but when they get to hold, they can't cut the MUSTARD any more? hmmmmm! Hey! This sound like a new topic...........(HaHa) I think we better give this serious investigation.....:D Bill D. ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 184 Fri Feb 12, 1993 J.GNIEWKOWSK [GE-Lamp ST] at 06:53 EST Here's the scoop. I called Psygnosis and talked to a person who was pretty well versed in the Atari version. He said the upgrade cost was determined by the time of the upgrade (there hasn't been one for quite awhile), some improved (invisible to the user) code, and new tax templates. From what I gathered, if your current version (mine is 4.03) is working, I'd hesitate to spend the $24.95 upgrade fee. He couldn't point to any new features, but that could be because he wasn't 'expert' in the Atari version. Caveat Emptor, John ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 185 Fri Feb 12, 1993 J.BOSSOLINI1 at 23:59 EST I previously had ver. 4.01, and I was getting quite frustrated with the way it drops characters, even with Quick ST installed. My new version, 4.09, has yet to drop one character, even without an accelerator installed! The $25 was not much for me, since I only payed $10 for my original to someone who was upgrading (??) to an IBM w/ Quicken. Joe ------------ Category 6, Topic 13 Message 186 Sat Feb 13, 1993 W.DAVIS20 [Bill] at 12:11 EST John, Thanks for that input. Its kinda what I thought was the situation. I already spent the money awhile back. I think I noticed a slight increase in speed of the main program.
