IS IT SCANNED?
--------------

No, it's not scanned. Both images were drawn on the ST using Degas
Elite in medium resolution.

It is not original art, however. I copied it from the February 1988
issue of GI*Joe Special Missions comic book (Volume 1, Number 9); on
page 21, there is an ad for Marvel Super Mart with the Spiderman
image. I wouldn't be surprised if the same ad was in other issues.

I used the 'grid method' (I don't know if there's an established
term) to copy the picture. I drew a grid on the comic and recreated
the same grid on the screen. Then, I could use the corresponding
grid lines on the comic and on the screen to reproduce the image.
For example, I could realize that his right foot is laying exactly on
a vertical line with his heal about two-thirds the way up. This
method allows me to gauge the correct size and form of the pieces of
the image.

The picture isn't an exact reproduction though. I only used the grid
for drawing the basic outline of the figure. The web and a few other
features are arranged so that they look good and not distorted.

WHY DID I DO THIS?
------------------

I originally only had a color monitor and used medium resolution a
lot. I got tired of the boring, solid background and wanted to have
a picture, so I drew my own. I knew that I had to keep it down to
four colors, so I looked to the comics for some content.

I started this project after I bought my first ST, back in January of
1988. I've been working on it a little bit over the last three and a
half years. I'm glad that I've finished it.

Just kidding. There's no shareware fee. :^)
