Turbo-Res, v1.0 Turbo-ST (v1.8) ACC Selector Copyright 1990 by Blake Arnold Delphi: 1BLAKE CIS: 71311,2775 Turbo-ST itself is copyright 1990 by SofTrek, and is NOT to be freely distributed. However, this program (Turbo-Res) may be freely distributed as long as this documentation file remains with it and intact. Please note that neither I, nor this program are in any way connected with SofTrek. This program was written for those that have purchased version 1.8 of Turbo-ST. Turbo-ST comes in two separate "ACC" and "PRG" versions. This program allows you to boot a disk in any resolution and still have the proper version of Turbo-ST installed with no user input. Since we're only concerned with the "ACC" versions, this document will deal with them specifically. Please note that this program is only designed for use with systems that use the root directory of drive "A:" for accessories (this is the normal, default configuration of an ST). Turbo-ST version 1.8 (and quite possibly all future versions) apparently comes in two distinct variants, a monochrome version and a color version. In order for Turbo-ST to work properly, the proper variant must be loaded for the monitor type that is being used (color or monochrome). How it works: Turbo-Res simply verifies that the ACC's are named properly for the current monitor type (ie. "mono" version for use with a monochrome monitor, etc.). It works by checking the current resolution and naming the proper version to an active "ACC" file extender, and renames the incorrect version to an inactive "ACX" extender. If the correct version has already been selected no operation is performed. However, if the program cannot locate both "TRBOMONO.AC? and TRBOCOLR.AC? (the "?" is a wildcard) on the root of drive "A:" an error message will be briefly displayed. Installation: No user input is required when running Turbo-Res. Simply put both TRBOCOLR.ACC and TRBOMONO.ACC in the root (main) directory of drive "A:", and TRBO_RES.PRG in the "AUTO" folder on the same drive. TRBO_RES.PRG will run from any position in the AUTO folder. It also does not remain memory resident after it has completed its task; it simply renames the files (if needed) and terminates. You will now be able to boot your disk on either a monochrome or a color montior and have the proper version of Turbo-ST installed. Warranty/Guarantee: None whatsoever, either expressed or implied. ----------------------------------------------------------------- An extra toy at no cost to you (well, almost no cost): I've also included SCACHE.PRG in this archive. It's a useful program that many people aren't even aware of. I'm not sure who wrote it, but read the brief documentation that accompanies it for an explanation of its purpose. It does seem to speed up directory access times significantly on a floppy system.
