S P L A T T E R Written by: Dennis Booth RULES OF PLAY ------------- First off, I would like to give proper credit to Corey Chapman for his game "Reaction" which this game was written after. Reaction is public domain and can be found on many BBS's around the valley. "Splatter" is in no way an attempt to improve Corey Chapman's game "Reaction", but is more of an alternative for more players with a few more options of play due to the increase in players. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OBJECT: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The object of this game is to be the person with the most tiles at game end. "Game end" can be when only one player is left, when the board is completely full, or when you hit ESC! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RULES: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This game board is a 23 by 14 grid with four colored pieces. To move a piece, click on the piece you want to move, then point to an empty square in level 1 or level 2 of the selected piece: |---|---|---|---|---| | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 = Level 1 |---|---|---|---|---| | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | |---|---|---|---|---| 2 = Level 2 | 2 | 1 |XXX| 1 | 2 | |---|---|---|---|---| | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 | XXX = selected tile |---|---|---|---|---| | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | |---|---|---|---|---| If you click on a blank space in the first level, you will gain the new tile and STILL RETAIN YOUR SELECTED TILE. Hence, you are adding a tile adjacent to one of your other tiles. If you click on a blank space in the second level, you will MOVE the selected tile to the new location. You can de-select the selected tile if you decide to "move" a different piece by clicking on the selected tile again. GAINING NEW TILES FROM OTHER PLAYERS (Splatting): After adding/moving a tile, ANY other tile in the FIRST level of the new tile that is not your own now becomes yours -- therefore increasing your score (number of tiles) and decreasing whosever tile(s) you splat. This is how it is possible to knock a player out -- just splat his last tile and he's out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GAME OPTIONS: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two buttons in each players' score box at the bottom of the screen. One is labeled "PASS" and the other "QUIT". Here are the descriptions of each: PASS : Allows the player to "pass" and not move on this turn - sometimes needed when you are trapped (can't move) but don't want to press QUIT and open up free space for your competitors. One reason for this is if you have a tremendous lead over the other players and don't want to forfeit your game. QUIT : Pressing this will take you out of the game. All of your tiles on the board will become spaces for the remaining players to use. Note: You cannot re-enter the game after quitting! In other words, NO CHEATING! But seriously, you can play again in a new game. OTHER OPTIONS: F10 : Opens a dialog box allowing two functions to be performed: LOAD a game, and SAVE a game. LOADing a game - Select the game you wish to load --- -----------(must have the extension .BRD and must be a valid saved game). SAVEing a game - Name the file via fileselector with the extension "BRD". It will save the current player's turn, and who is playing or quit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TIPS AND TRICKS: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For just two or three players, start a new game and force the unwanted player(s) to quit, then save game! There are already a few game boards included with this ARC'ed version, two are called TWO_PLAY.BRD and THREPLAY.BRD... Just for this purpose. To set up a different starting pattern, "play" the game to create the patterns and then save the game. Then whenever you want to use a different starting pattern just load it in... Hence, an unlimited number of patterns can be created. Right now this way is slow for complex patterns -- In this version I have not created an editor yet, so this should be fine until I create the editor. The editor will be included with the next version of Splatter. For more info on the next version, read below. If you like this program and would like the source code (written in GFA 3.07), then send a SAS Disk mailer with a blank disk to the address below OR send a check or money order for $3.00 and I will send the newest version of game, docs, editor, source code, and some other Shareware programs I have written. Please send a note requesting certain types of programs and I'll see what I can do! (Please include a phone # too!). No Preservatives Software Attn: Dennis Booth 3014 N.
