RUN LOW Version 1.3 Copyright 1993, By Anthony Watson ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Low lets you run low resolution programs directly from medium resolution! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Run Low saves your current desktop colors, switches to low rez, and runs your program. When you leave your program, Run Low switches back to medium and restores your desktop colors. There are FIVE different methods of using Run Low: 1. Rename your low resolution programs with .PR1 extensions. Next install Run Low as an application for .PR1 extensions. (RUNLOW requires 'Full Path' file names!) Save the Desktop. Then just click on the low resolution program name and it will load and run as if you had launched it from low resolution. (You can use any unique extension you wish for this. .PR1 is suggested, but you could also use .LOW, .RUN, etc. if you wish. You just need an extension that can be distinguished from medium resolution programs!) 2. Launch RUNLOW from a shell program. Pass the name of the low resolution program you wish to run as the command line. (The file DOES NOT need a unique extension when using this method) 3. Execute RUNLOW from the medium resolution desktop. When the alert appears select 'RUN'. You can then select any program to run using the fileselector. When you exit the program you'll be returned to the fileselector. Choose another program to run or click on Cancel to return to the desktop. 4. ST owners with TOS 2.05 or later can set up RUNLOW as a desktop icon. Then just drag any low resolution program on top of the icon. RUNLOW will switch resolutions and run the program. (You must set 'FULL PATH' under the desktop configuration!) 5. MOST POWERFUL FEATURE!!! Run Low will allow you to click on a file, and will run the program that uses that file in low resolution. Execute the RUNLOW utility directly from the desktop. Click on the 'Configur' button when the alert box appears. You can configure RUNLOW for 10 different file types. Press the number corresponding to the slot you want to change. Then type in the three letter extension for that file type. (i.e. 'GIF'). Then press RETURN, A file selector will appear. Locate the low rez file you want to have run for this file type (i.e. A 'GIF' Viewer). Click on OK, and you will be returned to the configuration menu. When you have finished your configurations, press the ESCAPE key. A data file will be written to the disk. Next, install Run Low as an application for each of the desired file types. (i.e. 'GIF'). Be sure to specify full paths and that the default directory is the applications directory or else Run Low will not be able to find it's data file. Then save the desktop. NOTE: The desktop 'install application' feature only allows installing a program to one filetype. If you are doing more than one type, you will have to modify the DESKTOP.INF/NEWDESK.INF file manually! Now when you click on your file type (i.e. a 'GIF' file) it will switch to low resolution, and run your application (i.e. The 'GIF' Viewer), and will send the file name to your application. When you leave your application Run low will return you to the medium resolution desktop. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- RUN LOW is FREEWARE from Mountain Software.
