          MANUAL: 5 OF A KIND
              THE SCREEN
Upon running the program you will
be asked if you want a one or two
player game. Once done you will see
that the top of the screen contains an
arrow with the word go, five dice with
the 5 of a kind slogan on them, and a
stop sign. Below these you will see
two complete score forms divided down
the middle of the screen. The left
form is for player one, the right for
player two. Note, if you select one
player only, then you will only deal
with the left form. The arrow on the
left and stop sign on the right switch
places in two player mode. When the
arrow is on the left side, it is player
one's turn. The stop sign (on the
right shows that player two must wait).
When player one's turn is up, the stop
sign and arrow will switch places,
showing that it is now player two's
turn.

When the dice show the 5 of a kind
slogan, it means you have not rolled.
To do so the player must move the
pointing hand (with the mouse) on to
the "GO" arrow, and press the left
mouse button. To stop the game at any
time one merely has to move the
pointing hand over the "stop sign" and
press the left mouse button. An alert
will pop up asking you if you really
want to quit. If you click on yes, you
will exit to the desk top. A no
returns you to the point in the game
where you clicked on the "stop sign".
Clicking on the stop sign with the
right button gives you an option to
restart the game.

Once you have click on the "go"
arrow, (for player one, it will be to
the left, for player two, the right.)
you will hear sounds of the dice being
rolled, after which the roll will be
displayed on the screen, replacing the
5 of a kind slogan. To reroll certain
dice, position the pointing hand over
the desired dice and press the left
mouse button, the dice will be replaced
by another "go" arrow. Clicking on the
"go" arrow will cause the dice to be
shown again. Clicking on the original
"go" arrow, (to the very left for
player one, the very right, for player
two.) will cause all of the "go" dice
to be rerolled and redisplayed. You
can roll the dice up to three times,
this includes your original roll.

Once you have rolled three times
or you like the dice you have, you must
move the pointing hand over a desired
row, and click with the left mouse
button. This puts the points you have
earned into that row. For example if
you have five 5's and you click on the
5 of a kind roll, the zero will be
replaced by 50. The total at the
bottom reflects this addition. Because
the program calculates totals after
every turn, blank rows have blue zero's
in them. In the above example the blue
zero would be replaced by a gray 50.
However if you only had four 5's and
you clicked on 5 of a kind, the blue
zero would be replaced by a gray zero.
This means that you didn't score any
points but did use the 5 of a kind row.
Hence you can not select 5 of a kind
again during this game.

Player one and two must share the
mouse, you can tell who's turn it is by
the "go" arrow at the top of the
screen, when the arrow is on the
extreame left it is player one's turn,
when it is on the extreame right, it is
player two's turn. Note, when
selecting a scoring row, it doesn't
matter which form you use, the computer
will atomatically score for the correct
player, just remember to keep the tip
of the pointing hand (it's finger.)
within the correct row. The turns
rotate, first player one then player
two, until you have completed the
game.

Once you have filled your last
row, or player two has scored his last
roll when in two player mode, a short
pause, will be followed by your average
line score, this is your bottom total
divided by 13 the number of rows you
can score in. The alert will also
contain a comment about that game. If
you had a game total of 52 your average
per line would be four, and below this
average it would tell you to "RETIRE!",
this gives you a basis for figuring out
how well you did.

     After giving your average, an
alert will pop up asking if you wish to
play again. Selecting "yes" will
return you to the begining alert for
one or two players, if you select "no"
then you will return to the desk top.

               THE RULES
The object of the game is to roll
the dice to fill your rows with points
and try to get as high a score as
possible. To get on a row some
criteria must be met otherwise you get
no points no rules for the rows are as
follows;

one's - sixes: You get 1-6 points per
die (respectively) that you have
currently on the screen. ie: if you
roll 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, clicking on the
one's row will result in a score of one
for that row. Clicking on the five's
row will result in a score of five and
clicking in the sixes row will result
in a zero for that row the reason being
that there are no sixe currently on the
dice.
3 of a kind: This row score the total
of your dice added together, you must
have three numbers the same to get
points.
4 of a kind: Same as 3 of a kind,
except you need 4 matching dice to get
points.
full house: You get 25 pts. for
getting three matching dice say 4's,
and two matching dice say sixes. This
format is strict, have 5 identical dice
will not give you points in this row,
it must be 3:2 to get 25 pts.
small straight: You need a roll of 1,
2, 3, 4 or 2, 3, 4, 5, or 3, 4, 5, 6 to
get 20 pts.
large straight: You need a roll of 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, or 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to get 30
pts.
chance: You get the total of your
roll in this row, this is mainly a
safty. Say for example you were trying
to get 4 of a kind but missed, you
could click on this row to score for
the sum of the dice. That way you
don't score zero in the four of a kind
row. In other words, you get another
chance.
5 of a kind: You get 50 pts. for
having 5 matching dice.

NOTE: THIS DOC FILE IS NEEDED TO RUN 5
OF A KIND BY ERIN MONACO
     It must accompany the 5OFAKIND.PRG
and 5OFAKIND.DAT. It must reside in
the root directory or in a folder
\5OFAKIND\. The program looks for all
files on the disk in drive A. Hence
all files must be in drive A. If you
have a disk editor you can change the
drive by going a couple of sectors from
the end of the program and changing the
A:'s to B:'s, C:'s and etc. It is
therefore possible to have files in
different drives, but for simplicity's
sake it is easiest to keep all the
files confined to one drive in the root
directory, or in a folder named
5OFAKIND.
