First of all, I wish to make my apologies to David Rakowski, the 
author of this fine display font.  There are a number of public domain
fonts in the postscript world which are just too large to convert and
use with either Calamus or PageStream.  (Although PageStream 2.1 will 
allow you to use postscript type 1 fonts.)  Showboat is one of those
fonts.  In order to convert Showboat to a Calamus font, it was
necessary to first split the original font into two.  On top of that, 
no matter what I tried, I was unable to bring the "W" into ANY ST font
editor - therefore I had to recreate it - changing it slightly in
order to use less control points.

That said, Showboat is a display font made up of all uppercase 
characters and some punctuation characters.  It is split into two 
parts for use with Calamus and/or Outline Art.  Showbt_1 contains the 
letters from A to K, as well as punctuation marks.  The punctuation 
marks are accessed by pressing:
! = exclamation mark
" = open quotation mark
# = close quotaton mark
& = open single quotation mark
' = close single quotation mark/apostrophe
( = (
) = )
, = ,
. = .
? = ?
This allows all available punctuation marks to be available from 
within Outline Art.

Showbt_2 contains the characters from L to Z.

Although the number of control points per character "pushes the 
envelope" as far as Calamus's maximum, I have tested Showboat on both 
the Moniterm and SM124 and experienced no problems.

For those of you who are interested, Showboat was first created as a 
type 1 postscript font by David Rakowski (the author of many fine 
public domain postscript fonts).  It was converted to the ECF format 
with FontVerter, then editted and split into two seperate fonts 
within Font Designer (both available from MegaType Software [GEnie: 
DFTURNOCK] or your local ST dealer).  It was then called into
FontVerter again and converted to the CFN format.

Public domain postscript fonts can be found here on GEnie in the MAC, 
DTP and Softlogik RT's.  Public domain Calamus fonts can be found in 
the ST RT, in ISD's Library 30.  Both versions can also be found on 
most local bulletin boards or may be ordered from PDC [GEnie: PDC.SW] 
or from the Radical Type PD Club [GEnie: M.LOADER1].

one of the DTP conferences held here in the GEnie ST RT every Monday 
night from 10PM to 12MN (or till the last customer leaves).
