STESOUND (V2) ------------- The ATARI Falcon030 has a new soundsubsystem which can be switched into an "STE-compatibility-mode" to ensure that (most) programs using the DMA-sound of STE/TT will work correctly. There already exist some patch- programs for the AUTO-folder to select this mode so that old programs can be run. But it is sometimes useful to have this possibility in a desk-accessory, since there are some programs for the F030 which don't reset the soundsubsystem to STE-mode. The accessory STESOUND (it can also be run as a program) offers this possibility. Just select the entry "Reset sound" in the Desk-menu and STESOUND will (re)set the soundsubsystem into STE-mode. If the soundsubsystem is locked when "Reset sound" is selected, STESOUND will ask if you wish to ignore that (be careful with this, since some programs may crash or produce wrong output when the subsystem is influenced while they are running). Programs using STE/TT-DMA-Sound with 6.25KHz replay-frequency will never work on the Falcon, because the lowest frequency the F030 can create with the internal clock is 8KHz. So don't wonder if STESOUND doesn't make such programs run correctly... STESOUND may be freely distributed, the only condition is that both files (STESOUND.ACC/PRG and STESOUND.TXT) are copied completely and unchanged (archiving is allowed). The old version didn't, and that caused some problems. - STESOUND now respects the old settings of the STE-compatible frequency, so resetting sound while, for example, Paula is playing a MOD-file, will not influence the replay-frequency. If the old value was invalid, STESOUND sets the subsystem to 50KHz.
