This text file documents the use of Timeworks 2.01 with SpeedoGDOS. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ********************************************************************* N.B. Timeworks 2.00 requires a different installation procedure and is generally far better behaved under Speedo. See issue 17 of Atari ST Review for complete details. ********************************************************************* I ought to mention at the outset that the process detailed below is not an ideal solution by any means. You still can't add your own point sizes with the Outline Fonts utility. It will however save you disk space and allow you to remove GDOS 1.1 from your system. Down to business: 1) Install Timeworks 2 and on completion, remove GDOS.PRG from your AUTO folder. DO NOT run the Font Widths program. 2) Install SpeedoGDOS using the supplied installation program. Run the 'Outline Fonts' utility, click 'Options' and make your way to the 'Point Sizes' dialogue. From here, highlight all of the standard sizes and click 'Set All Fonts'. When you return to the main dialogue, remove the Dutch 801 Bold Italic font and then save the settings. 3) Next, copy the width files for your printer to the PUBLISH folder. Rename the ????????.PUB file PUBLISH.WID, and the ????????.SCR file SCREEN.WID. If a file isn't included for your particular printer, choose one with the same output resolution. For example, the DESKJET.??? file should work with the HP LaserJet because both share the same 300dpi resolution. 4) Run Publisher 2. Once the program has loaded, choose 'Set Defaults' from the Options menu. Simply click OK and quit the program. This process creates a PUBLISH.DEF file in your Timeworks folder. 5) Open the PUBLISH.DEF file with a text editor and change the FONT_HIDING TRUE line to read FONT_HIDING FALSE; save the file as ASCII. You are now ready to run Timeworks 2 with Speedo. The width files supplied provide a reasonable selection of point sizes and the printed output is superb thanks to the quality of the Bitstream fonts. Beware, older documents will need some adjustment. General Speedo Hints -------------------- 1) If you're using lots of different fonts in one document, don't forget to increase the size of you caches accordingly. If you don't, Speedo will be reduced to a crawl as it swaps fonts from disk to memory. 2) Use FPRINT. This handy little utility (included in this archive) improves print speeds dramatically. Just pop it into your AUTO folder and forget about it. ******************************************************************** Nial Grimes. 1993. nialg@cix.compucom.co.uk -------------------------------------------------------------------- Many thanks to Simon at GST for supplying Timeworks 2.01. ********************************************************************
