STOS Games etc,by Mike Brown ½1989 * "LOADER.PRG" and "LOADER.BAS" enable you to put several small programs on one run-only disk and swap from one to the other without having to reload STOS every time. To utilise this, you must exit each "*.BAS" program with the instruction RUN "LOADER.BAS" instead of the usual "DEFAULT:END" You need to have LOADER.PRG in the root directory, and LOADER.BAS in an STOS folder along with the other *.BAS programs and a set of run- only files. Double-click on "LOADER.PRG" to load in the run-only version of STOS,and wait to be presented with a file selection box. On quitting any game you will be returned to the same selection box,and will not need to re-load STOS if you continue with another game. * "DELETE.ACB" is a very short accessory to simplify the process of tidying up all those unwanted *.BAK files that can clutter up your disks - I found it particularly useful when compiling a run-only disk, which was so full that I couldn't update it without first deleting the earlier version. It is so short that I find it worth installing permanently even on a 520. * "BLACKBOX" requires both mouse and joystick. It is a variant of Battleships, and full instructions are included within the program. * "JIGSAW" will randomise any Degas or Neo picture into a 10x6 jigsaw,or you can use one of the three ready- compacted pictures in the Jigsaw folder. The original is shrunk to quarter size and displayed top-left. Click on a piece in the lower half of the screen and move it onto the grid at top-right. Click again to drop it in place. If this is not the correct place, the piece will return to its original location in the lower screen. Clicking the right-hand mouse button at any stage will quit the program. * "PATIENCE" is a variant of the card game. Click on the stock of cards to reveal each card in turn. If a card either one or three to the left of any card is of the same suit or same face value as it (eg 10 of Hearts/King of Hearts,or Jack of Spades/Jack of Clubs), then it can be moved on top of it. First click on the card further to the right of the two, then on the matching card either one or three to the left. The new card there may make further moves possible within the existing rows of cards. The aim is to "collapse" the whole pack down to a single stack, though anything less than six remaining piles is a very good score. Click on empty stock at the end of a game to quit. * "SOLITARE" is a straight adaptation of the traditional board game. Try to remove all the balls but one by hopping them over each other. Select a ball to move by clicking the left mouse button on it,then click again on the space it is to move to. There must be a ball to hop over,or it will not move. The ball being hopped over will automatically be removed to the edge of the board. Click the right mouse button to quit. * KIDSMAZE is a very simple maze game for kids. Guide the animated teddy through the house, street, park and beach using the cursor keys or joystick. Final note - none of these games is highly polished, and any difficulties encountered are probably due to my programming, not your machine! In case of difficulty, the phone number is 0223 315396.
