DESCRIPTION: Pogo Games is a video game in which the player must
land on each of the game squares without being caught by his
enemies.  The purchasing of items from the pogo shop will allow
the player to improve his performance on the game board.
This program was an OAC computer science study project for at St.
Andrew's College.  It was written in TURING, a programming language
by Holt Software and Associates, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  Turing is
an excellent programming language because of it's clean syntax, 
meticulous error checking, and rare system lockups.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Pogo Games runs in VGA 640 X 480 video mode. It
will run on an IBM XT, AT, or true IBM compatible, but it requires a
colour monitor and must be run from a hard disk.

SHAREWARE: Pogo Games is distributed as Shareware. You are free
to try it and make copies for others. If you continue to use Pogo
Games, you are asked to make a donation of $10.00 or more to the
author to support continued development of this and other
software.

FILES: The program package includes about sixty files.  They
will occupy about 4 MB of disk space when the program is fully
uncompressed.  All files should be in the same directory on the
hard drive.  All these files must be included when distributing
this program.  The program will not run if the package is incomplete.

This program is marketed as shareware.  This means that you have
a thirty day trial period for the program before you are
obligated to send a contribution of $10 to the author.  This
contribution will allow the author to provide future programs.

                       Playing Pogo Games
                      --------------------

To play pogo games, copy and uncompress the files included on the
distribution disk onto your hard disk with pkzip.  Begin the game
by typing POGO at the dos prompt.  At this time a demo will begin.
The demo can be skipped by pressing a key.  When the demo completes,
you will be at the main menu.  Use the cursor keys to select your
option, and the enter key to select it.


                          Instructions
                         --------------

     To see the instructions select the instructions from the
menu.  An instructions screen will be displayed.  Press any key
to return to the main menu.


                         Change Features
                        -----------------

The Change Features option allows you to modify settings within
the program.  Use the cursor keys to select the item you wish to
modify.

SOUND:         To turn the sound on or off, move the menu bar to
               this option.  Press enter to toggle the option.

CLEAR DEMOS:   To turn on or off the scrolling demos which clear
               the screen select this option.

SCROLL BAR:    To turn the scrolling bar of text which runs along
               the bottom line of the screen on or off, press
               enter on this option.

# OF LIVES:    To Change the number of lives given to you during
               each game, press enter on this option.  You may
               have between 2 an 8 lives per game.

DEMOS:         If you wish to turn the demo displays which occur
               throughout the game on or off, select this option.

SPEED RATIO:   If this game runs to fast on your computer, change
               the value stored in this option.

KEYS:	       To select new keys for the main game, press enter
	       on this option.  The computer will request the new
	       keys in sequence.  Enter the keys in UPPER CASE.
	       Only letters (no numbers or F keys) will be accepted.

QUIT:          If you wish to save the new settings you have made
               on this screen to the disk then press Y.  This
               will make your settings always be the same when
	       you reload the game next time you play.  If you do
	       not wish to save your settings to disk, press N.  
	       You will return to the main menu after you make
	       your selection.

                        Enter Cheat Code
                       ------------------

     After the completion of each level, the computer will give
you a cheat code.  To begin play at the level you died on, select
this option from the menu, and then enter the cheat code.  If the
cheat code was entered correctly the game will automatically
begin from the level corresponding that code.  If you repeatedly
try to enter random cheat codes in an attempt to guess them, the
cheat codes option will become deactivated.

                           Play Games
                          ------------

     To begin the game, select this option.  Use the keys
displayed in the upper right corner of the screen to move your
player.  Avoid the enemy figures, and land on every square.  When
you have landed on every square you will have completed the
level.  You will be awarded $5 for each square you land on, plus an
extra $100 bonus for completing each level.  When you finish a
level, you will be given a new cheat code, and an opportunity to
visit the pogo shop.  Press 9 at that time to visit the Pogo Shop
and spend your money, otherwise press any key to play the next level.
The game will continue like this for fifty levels.  The F1 key can be
pressed during play to pause the game.  The F2 key can be pressed
during play to quit.  The numerical keys (numbers 1 through 5) can be
used to use items you have purchased at the Pogo Shop.  If enemy figures
move to fast, then change their speed in the change features menu.


                          The Pogo Shop
                         ---------------

When entering the pogo shop, you will be given three options. 
Select your preference with the cursor keys and the enter key.

VIEW ITEMS YOU OWN:  To view the items which you presently own,
select this option from the menu, and they will be displayed on
the screen.

RETURN TO GAME:  To return to the game, select this option.

SELECT AN ITEM FROM THE POGO SHOP:  Select this option if you
wish to purchase an item from the Pogo Shop.  Remember that you
are spending the money which you have earned from the game.  Use
the cursor keys to select the item you wish to buy.  To see the
next screen of items, select the "Next" option.  There are three
screens of items which can be purchased.  Each item has a
different purpose, such as allowing you to skip levels, making
you invincible to enemies, and giving you new lives.  Some items
are useless.  Once you have selected you item, you will return to
the Shop Menu.  You may now purchase a second item, view your
items, or return to the game.


			Concluding Remarks
		      ----------------------

I hope that you enjoy this program, and play it frequently.  I only
ask you in parting:  Can you complete level 50?
