Maelstrom v.1.1 Update - ML1_1.TXT File

Installation instructions:

1. Copy the v.1.1 self-extracting archive (ML1_1.EXE) to your existing
Maelstrom subdirectory on your hard drive.

2. Run ML1_1.EXE to un-archive the 6 update files to your existing Maelstrom
   subdirectory.

Fixes, enhancements, etc.:

1. The low DOS memory requirements for running the game have been reduced from
   about 593K to about 589K.

2. Some end-users have reported "Internal Errors" when running the game with
Windows' Smartdrive (smartdrv.exe) loaded. This problem has been corrected.
Also, the README.TXT, AUTOEXEC.002, and CONFIG.002 files included with the
1.1 update provide instructions and examples for configuring systems to run
   Maelstrom when Smartdrive is loaded.

3. There was a problem with the text which accompanies the special "View"
animated sequences which appear at the Main screen (for example, the
sequence depicting the destruction of Dr. Annuber's lab). If the end-user
scrolled the text downward after viewing the animated sequence, the text
would become overwritten. This problem has been corrected.

4. The program displayed a "Data File is Missing" message instead of an "Out of
Memory" message in cases where an end-user had about 1K less than the amount
of available RAM required to run the program. The program now displays an
"Out of Memory" message in such cases.

5. The program displayed a "No VGA Found" message in cases where end-users
attempted to load the game without first loading a mouse driver. The
program now displays a "No Mouse Detected" message if a mouse driver has not
been installed prior to running Maelstrom.

6. There was a random problem in the game in which Harzchoff Zoran was
sometimes able to take over Harmony without entering into a battle
sequence with one of Harmony's starship fleets, even though the fleet was
launched and was patrolling Harmony in Attack mode. This problem has been
   corrected.

7. There was a bug related to a particular character's (Kimber Courchen)
personnel file. When end-users read the file, random garbage and a portion
of another, unrelated file would be displayed on the screen. If the end-
user hired Courchen after reading the file, the program would promptly exit
to DOS. This problem has been corrected.

8. In the 1.0 version of the game, the Overlord was given a finite number of
years (Harmony time) in which to locate and conquer the Syndicate. If the
Overlord didn't accomplish this goal within the allotted time frame, he
would be killed off by Syndicate drones who had infiltrated Harmony's
forces. This time restriction has been removed from version 1.1 of the
   game.
