                          AN HARPOON SCENARIO

                             SCENARIO NOTES

Invasion USA is a NACV scenario for Harpoon. This scenario is a
simulation designed around a hypothetical collapse of NATO situation.
Although there are not a lot of units this scenario is long and
demands patience to play. Most of the action will take place sometime
around day 4 with some occasional air actions in the intervening
time. If you are the type of player who prefers immediate action and
meaningless brawls (the high cost of modern navies and airforces make
the brawl situation unlikely unless required to acheive some specific
geographical or political goal) then do not bother to play this
scenario. Orders have been given to both sides so you can play either
the Soviets or the US. I prefer playing the US but for those who
prefer an offensive action the Soviet side is for you. The computer
plays either side well. Those of you who do not have the scenario
editor can run this scenario but you must have 'Harpoon' vs 1.1. To
load it select the NACV battleset and any scenario within it. Once
the selected scenario loads and the unit and strategic map screen is
up press altF1 and load "invsnusa". There are no minimum victory
conditions for either side, this is an all or nothing scenario; either
total victory or no victory. Enjoy!

                             THE SITUATION

Four months ago NATO collapsed. Soviet military might prevailed in
Western Europe and now the Soviet Union controls the continent. The
British Isles still retain soverignty but have little political or
military influence over European politics. Long range Soviet
strategic assets (Backfires, Badgers and Bears) launching hundreds of
cruise missiles at a time effectively destroyed all British ports and
airfields. Britain is isolated and effectively has been Finlandized
by the Soviet Union. At war's end both the Soviet and US fleets were
crippled. The Soviet Union has used the four months since the end of
the war to rebuild what it can. The US is wracked with internal
strife over whether to continue the fight or give in to what many see
as inevitable and accept the new geopolitical reality. If the Soviet
Union can take the war to the US then maybe the American people will
recognize reality. If the US can effectively prevent a Soviet attack
new energy and strength may be infused into the US population and the
fight for freedom will be carried on. US naval forces consist of one
repaired carrier some CG's and Frigates. US air forces consist of
reserve units and some land based naval units which are carrier
capable. The Soviets have repaired and otherwise scraped together a
creditable assault force and have a reasonable strategic air
capability.

SUBJ: ATTACK ON US MAINLAND

COMRADE COMMANDER, THE END OF OUR GLORIOUS AND JUSTIFIABLE STRUGGLE IS
NEAR. THE CAPITALIST WEAKLINGS FIGHT AMONG THEMSELVES. OUR LEADERS
HAVE DETERMINED THAT TAKING THE WAR TO THE WEAKLING IMPERIALISTS WILL
CONVINCE THEM THAT THEY CANNOT STAND UP AGAINST SOVIET POWER. YOU ARE
THERFORE ORDERED TO TAKE YOUR ASSAULT FORCE TO THE EAST COAST OF THE
USA AND LAND THE TROOPS UNDER YOUR COMMAND AT *. AFTER YOUR FORCES
HAVE INFLICTED MAJOR DAMAGE ON THE ASSAULT AREA RECOVER YOUR TROOPS
AND RETURN TO OUR FATHERLAND. GOOD LUCK COMRADE.

*Note - you can land your troops at Norfolk, New York or Boston.
Landing is simulated by getting within 20 miles of the port you choose
and staying there for 6 hours. You must keep 4 merchant ships
stationary and w/in 20 miles of port to acheive your objective. Be
careful not to ground your combatants, they will need to be mobile to
protect your merchants (one strategy). Once you have the merchants at
an objective for 6 hours you will acheive total victory and the
scenario will be over. If you lose more than 2 merchants you cannot
win (the US stopped your invasion) but you can console yourself by
finishing off whats left of the US fleet.

ADMIRAL, SATELLITE INTELLIGENCE REPORTS A SOVIET AMPHIBIOUS FORCE
APPROXIMATELY 500 MILES SW OF ICELAND HEADING YOUR WAY, OBJECTIVE
UNKNOWN BUT A TROOP LANDING SOMEWHERE ON THE EASTERN SEABOARD IS
DEFINITE. YOUR ORDERS ARE SIMPLE, KILL THE TROOP SHIPS. IF THE
SOVIETS SUCCESSFULLY LAND TROOPS ON US SOIL IT IS LIKELY THE
ISOLATIONIST FACTION WILL SUCCEED IN ITS EFFORTS TO DEMILITARIZE OUR
COUNTRY AND THE FIGHT FOR WORLD FREEDOM WILL DIE. THE FATE OF THE
FREE WORLD IS IN YOUR HANDS ADMIRAL. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING. MAY
GOD GO WITH YOU.

Notes:

This user edited scenario originated from the Harpoon
Scenario Editor BBS; operating it's terminal at
    718-746-7466 in ANSI emulation (2400/1200 N-8-1) using
A WWIV TERMINAL VERSION 4. Sometimes you may find
Procomm Plus terminal up when sysop is conducting
other bussiness. However this terminal also accesses
the directory with the HARPOON SCENARIO WAREHOUSE
    files.

On July 16, 1990 the Harpoon Scenario Editor BBS
Warehouse was started as a place where a central point
could be maintained for the uploading and downloading
of the Harpoon Game edited scenarios. As interest and
usage of the BBS grew. The BBS improved it's service
and terminal to a full fledge BBS on October 2, 1990.
The BBS will continue to work on improving the terminal
and services as long as interest continues for Harpoon
scenarios. The true test of success will be the users
and plenty of uploads of scenarios made by members with
    the Scenario Editor.

Feel free to call at anytime to upload any
scenario you wish to share and download some more for
your pleasure, and share this scenario with others.
When you connect to the BBS and you are a first time
user type in "NEW" and follow the propmts for
initialization as a member. Veterans of the original
Pro-comm Plus terminal will also have to reinitialize
    onto the new WWIV terminal.

Correspondence can be mailed to 19-21 Clintonville ST.
    Whitestone, New York 11357

To save callers time on line; the following files have
    been made:

HARPTEXT.ZIP/ARC - File containing all text files
associated with the edited scenarios available for down
    loading

GIUKTEXT.ZIP/ARC - File containing all text files for
scenarios to be played under the GIUK battleset.

NACVTEXT.ZIP/ARC - File containing all text files for
scenarios to be played under the NACV battleset.

HARPBB.TXT - File containing information regarding the
    Harpoon Edited Scenario BBS.

BBGUIDE.ZIP/ARC - file containing the WWIV terminal
manual explaining the commands and menus used.

To insure ease of use by the Harpoon Warriors certain
guide lines have been developing by the users. The guide
lines so far which have been developed are as follows:

    1. There should be a ASCII text file associated with
the scenario. This text file should have the
the victory conditions and some background
information and anything else you wish to add.

    2. The text file should have the same file name as
the scenario file and file extension of .TXT.

    3. The scenario file name should take up the whole
eight character field with the first four letters
         identifying the associated battleset.
         (i.e.: GIUK NACV )

    4.   When possible leave a e-mail message on the BBS;
giving some feed back on how the scenario played.
This will enable the authors to improve their
future scenarios or correct any deficiencies in
existing ones. Address the messages to the
         author.

The files on the BB right now are in a compressed
format to save on-line time and cost to callers. The
compression utilities used at this moment are the ZIP and
ARC. To upload you needn't do it in the compressed
format. We will do it here if you have no compression
facilities.

developed are as follows:

    1. There should be an ASCII text file associated with

download the zip compression utility from the BBS.. filename - PKZ110.exe.

If this scenario was downloaded from another BBS other than the Harpoon
Scenario Warehouse or a regional HSWBBS you may not have the latest
version. Most scenarios go through revisions to take out any bugs or add
items which will enhance the play of the scenario. Also they are updated
using the latest version of the Scenario editor which gives the author
more commands to use making the scenario to play better. The only way to
insure that you have the latest version is to download from the
Harpoon Scenario Warehouse. It is suggested you call and become a
member and use the WWIV network to keep in touch via a local call. There
is no obligation or fee required to be a member. However all Harpooners
are urged to join the Harpoon User's Group HUG.
