                 HARPOON USER EDITED SCENARIO GIUKRW01

CREATED BY BASHI BAZOUK JULY 6 1990

                         "THE RED PEARL"

                           Version 1.4

It's 1992 and the Russian empire has broken up. There is now only one
Germany and eastern Europe has started the road to recovery. All
Russian troops have returned home since there is no money to maintain
them on foreign soil. The economy in mother Russia has not jumped into
capitalism as it's old satellites did, and their economy is in shambles.
The result is an upheaval of the political structure with nobody in charge.
With the rest of the world nations prospering in the new and larger
international market with the standard of living improving for all peoples
in what is called the "Greatest Economic Cycle" in history. The Russian
Bear feels cornered again surrounded by prospering nations and happy people.
Russia decides to show it's envy.

Thursday and it's Christmas eve with the anticipation of a
long Holiday weekend stretching all week into the New Year's long
weekend. The "Greatest Economic Cycle" has given an added euphoria.
The nations of NATO are to be dissolved with the coming new year. Have
turned down their forces for the celebration of what is coming to be known
as the "Dawn of the New Age." The very old Guard of the Russian military
have decided to take advantage of this situation and have implemented their
plan code named "The Red Pearl" after the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl
Harbor December 7th, 1941. Creating their own infamy. The Russians have
taken over the Norwegian Sea. Banack airfield was snowed upon by Russian
paratroopers and overwhelmed in 45 minutes with no prisoners. Andoya
airfield was hopscotch and Bodo airfield was attacked by the sea and taken
against heavy resistance after five hours of fighting. This has caused the
northern Norwegian Sea to be opened up like a flood gate to all Russian
naval forces.

As NATO Supreme commander you are to marshal all your
available forces and halt the advance. Intel has informed you
that they have no idea where the Russian forces are; except there
are heavy EMS signals from out in the Norwegian Sea. To stem the
Russian advance you must protect your weakest flank in Keflavik by
bringing up the Guadalcanal full of marines; and station your
carrier group close to airfield to protect it from destruction or
capture by Russian land forces. (Victory condition - on station
for two days Theodore Roosevelt/Guadalcanal). Supplies must be
brought up to the Scandinavian front to supply fuel and armaments
for the defense and upcoming offensive through the port of Orland.
Bring up at least one merchant ship and one tanker (victory
condition - on station for two days merchant/tanker). Bodo must
be captured as this airfield is needed to regain control over the
Norwegian Sea; and stem the naval advance to take air coverage
away from the Russian fliers (Victory condition - on station for
two days merchant/Saipan/Shreveport.) Here again the able few
marines must do the job. Do not inflict heavy damage to airfield
so it may be used by our own forces. As a last resort to insure
capture it can be destroyed. You do not have any authorization to
use nuclear forces unless it's used against you first. If nuclear
forces are used then a reported Typhoon SSBN reported by SSN
Albany in the most northern regions must be destroyed. This SSBN
must be found and shadowed, If the Russians go nuclear this SSBN
is to be neutralized. To keep the Russian ASW air cover from
interfering with this mission the airfield at Banack northern
Norway must be destroyed (victory condition - Banack at least 90%
damaged). It's a tough job but heroes and medals can be had if
successful. Good luck!

All the above victory conditions must be met for a victory to
occur on the Blue side. This scenario is designed to be played
from the NATO side only.

Attention all Harpoon Scenario Warehouse BBS members. You are urged to
Join the Harpoon User's Group HUG. The HSWBBS has merged with the HUG and
is the official BBS. HUG has already published it's first issue of the
C3I. The newsletter of HUG filled with information on Harpoon and military
subjects of interest to all Harpooners. Upcoming issues will include
articles by Larry Bond and Tim Jacobs. HUG and HSWBBS are working on a
project to open regional HSWBBS's around the country and overseas
according to the concentration of HUG members. So it is in everybody's
best interest to join HUG. Read the HUGINF.TXT file included in this
scenario compressed file.

This user edited scenario originated from the Scenario Warehouse BBS
HSWBBS; operating it's terminal at 718-746-7466 in ANSI emulation
(2400/1200/300 N-8-1) using A WWIV TERMINAL VERSION 4.12 Sometimes
you may find Procomm Plus terminal up when sysop is conducting other
business. However this terminal also accesses the directory with the
HARPOON SCENARIO WAREHOUSE files.

On July 16, 1990 the Harpoon Scenario Warehouse BBS started where
a central point could be maintained for the uploading and downloading
of the Harpoon Game edited scenarios. As interest and usage of the BBS
grew. The BBS improved it's service and terminal to a full fledge BBS
on October 2, 1990. We then became the official BBS of the Harpoon User's
Group - HUG. The BBS will continue to work on improving the terminal and
services as long as interest continues for Harpoon scenarios. The future
will bring regional HSWBBS's around the country depending on the
concentration of HUG members. The true test of success will be the users
and plenty of uploads of scenarios made by members with the Scenario
Editor.

The Scenario Warehouse is connected to the WWIV Network which allows
it's members to send E-mail to each other via a local WWIV BBS in the
Network; our node number is @7851. We also host the "HARPOONER'S SCENARIO
WHAREHOUSE" Bulletin Board sub. This is the place where all Harpooner's
can exchange ideas and tactics.

Ask your local WWIV BBS which is in the Network to subscribe to it.
Tell the SYSOP to contact JIVA at 1@7851 on the Net. This way you will
be able to post messages and read up on whats happening just by a local
call. For more info contact JIVA the SYSOP at the Warehouse.

These WWIV BBS's already subscribe to the "Harpooner's Scenario
Warehouse" sub/bullettin board:

Free Quarks @9953 SYSOP - 919-848-2315
The Midnight Express II @8114 SYSOP - 801-963-9067

Feel free to call at anytime to share ideas and find
information to help you in playing a better game.

The Scenario Warehouse urges you to give feedback to the author of any
scenario you play; whether it is positive or negative, by using the BBS
E-Mail (also through the WWIVnet). This will help the person to improve
his/her scenario creation and to make any changes which need to be made.

When you connect to the BBS and you are a first time user type in
"NEW" and follow the prompts for initialization as a member. Veterans of
the original Pro-Comm Plus terminal also will have to initialize onto
the new WWIV terminal.

Correspondence can be mailed to 19-21 Clintonville
ST., Whitestone, New York 11357

To save callers time on line; the following files
have been made:

GIUKTEXT.ZIP/ARC - File containing all text files
for scenarios to be played under the GIUK battleset.

NACVTEXT.ZIP/ARC - File containing all text files
for scenarios to be played under the NACV battleset.

HARPBB.ZIP/ARC - File containing information regarding
the Harpoon Edited Scenario BBS.

BBGUIDE.ZIP/ARC - file containing the WWIV terminal
manual explaining the commands and menus used.

BBNET.ZIP/ARC - file containing information on how the WWIV
network works and how to use it.

MEDCTEXT.ZIP/ARC - file containing all text tiles files
for scenarios to be played under the MEDC battleset.

To insure ease of use by the Harpoon Warriors certain guide lines have
been developing by the users. The guide lines so far, which have been
developed are as follows:

    1. There should be an ASCII text file associated with
the scenario. This text file should have the victory
conditions and some background information and anything
else you wish to add. Include also your name and HARPBBS#
so feedback can be sent to you; Also include your e-mail
address of any WWIVnet board you are a member of by including
the node number also ( ie: 56 @2105 ).

    2. The text file should have the same file name as
the scenario file and file extension of .TXT.

    3. The scenario file name should take up the whole
eight character field with the first four letters
identifying the associated battleset (i.e.; GIUK
NACV MEDC), and the appropiate file extension corresponding
to the battleset.

    4.   When possible leave an E-mail message on the BBS;
giving some feed back on how the scenario played. This
will enable the author to improve their future scenarios or
correct any deficiencies in existing ones. Address the
messages to the author.

The files on the BB right now are in a compressed format to save
on-line time and cost to callers. The compression utilities used are the
ZIP and ARC. To upload you needn't do it in the compressed format. We
will do it here if you have no compression facilities. You may also
download the zip compression utility from the BBS.. filename - PKZ110.exe.

If this scenario was downloaded from another BBS other than the Harpoon
Scenario Warehouse or a regional HSWBBS you may not have the latest
version. Most scenarios go through revisions to take out any bugs or add
items which will enhance the play of the scenario. Also they are updated
using the latest version of the Scenario editor which gives the author
more commands to use making the scenario to play better. The only way to
insure that you have the latest version is to download from the
Harpoon Scenario Warehouse. It is suggested you call and become a
member and use the WWIV network to keep in touch via a local call. There
is no obligation or fee required to be a member. However all Harpooners
are urged to join the Harpoon User's Group HUG.
