*** INPUT *** Notes are input and played by depressing keys on the IBM keyboard corresponding to the desired notes as indicated on the on-screen diagram. At any one time, a two-octave range is possible with the note "C", which corresponds to the "Q" key on the IBM keyboard, being the default middle C. Each note will play for its note length as set up in the Option Menu. While in Continuous mode, each note will play until another valid note is selected, the space bar is depressed to stop the playing of the last note entered, or the F10 key or the ENTER key is used to exit to the Main or Option menu. *** OUTPUT *** Any time the input is terminated using the space bar, the notes previously entered can be played back by the use of the function key F7 or ALT-F7. This can be done as many times as desired. If any of the notes entered are incorrect, depressing the space bar just prior to the first incorrect note will delete this note and all notes following it. At this point, input of the correct notes can begin and played back at any time. Function key F7 will play back the notes with a minimum note rest between notes, while ALT-F7 will use the note rest from the Option Menu. A longer note rest will make editing in this way easier. *** FUNCTION KEYS *** F1 - Turns the piano VIBRATO ON F2 - Turns the piano VIBRATO OFF F3 - Selects the LOWER TWO PIANO OCTAVES to be active F4 - Selects the UPPER TWO PIANO OCTAVES to be active F5 - RAISES THE FREQUENCY of the piano notes by one and resets note string CtrlF5 - RESETS THE FREQUENCY to the original default frequency F6 - LOWERS THE FREQUENCY of the piano notes by one and resets note string CtrlF6 - RESETS THE FREQUENCY to the original default frequency F7 - PLAYS BACK THE NOTES played on the piano with a minimum note rest AltF7 - PLAYS BACK THE NOTES played on the piano with the selected note rest ShftF7 - RESETS the playback string of notes played on the piano F8 - SCROLLS THE NOTE LENGTH forward as shown at the top of the screen AltF8 - SCROLLS THE NOTE LENGTH backward as shown at the top of the screen F10 - Recalls the MAIN MENU to the screen AltF10 - Displays the HELP SCREENS of the program Alt1 - Sets whole note length Alt6 - Sets one-sixteenth note length Alt2 - Sets half note length Alt8 - Sets one-eighth note length Alt3 - Sets thirty-second note length Alt0 - Sets Continuous note length Alt4 - Sets one-quarter note length *** INTERACTIVE FEATURES *** While playing the piano, it is possible to interactively change the octave and turn the vibrato on and off as you desire. However, changing the frequency will reset the playback string. The frequency changing feature is designed for the instances when the piano might be played along with a song or recording. In this case, the frequencies must be matched prior to starting. *** MENU SELECTIONS *** There are two ways to make menu selections at both the MAIN MENU and OPTION MENU levels. You can use the space bar to change the choice that is highlighted and then use the key to choose that selection, or a quicker way is to use the first letter of the selection to choose it. (e.g. Selecting "O" for the (O)ption Menu from the MAIN MENU) The same is true for any sub-options which are available. The first letter of the new sub-option selection will then appear in the box next to the menu choice, for your reference. *** OPTION MENU CHOICES *** 1.VIBRATO - This option sets the speed of the vibrato and can be set at SLOW, MEDIUM, or FAST. This speed determines how fast the piano can be played and the length of time between the striking of the key and the playing of the note. 2.NOTE - The note rest lengths can be selected to be used when playing REST back the notes played on the piano to make editing easier, or to vary the sound of the composition. They can be set to a minimum value, or to a length equivalent to the note lengths: WHOLE, HALF, QUARTER, EIGHTH, SIXTEENTH, or THIRTY-SECOND. 3.PLAYBACK - The calculation of the notes' playback speed is determined by SPEED this option. It can be set to be approximately AS INPUT (1.0x) the speed can be multiplied by one of the following factors: .5, .75, 1.5, or 2.0. It can also be set to any factor varying from .5 to 2.0x. 4.KEY - The piano can be played in any one of the typical key signatures. When a key other than the default C is selected, the IBM keyboard switches the regular notes and the sharped or flatted notes of that key to make the playing of that key easier. (e.g. switching F and F# in the key of G) *** NOTE *** - The Default values are indicated beside each menu choice. *** MAIN MENU CHOICES *** 1. KEYBOARD - DISPLAYS the piano and IBM KEYBOARDS and prepares to begin inputting notes. 2. STORE - WRITES notes input onto disk file on default drive. (Default .SNG extension) 3. RECALL - READS a saved disk file. 4. OPTIONS - Displays the OPTIONS MENU. 5. HELP - Displays the HELP SCREENS of the program. 6. QUIT - Quits the execution of the program. *** NOTE *** - The demo version only allows you to input 20 notes and does not allow the recalling or storing of compositions to disk.
