TITLE :Fastback: Can't Pause Backup with Mouse
PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:BUGLIST3.10

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Windows NT operating system, version 3.1
 - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bug #: 12025

SYMPTOMS
========

During a backup, Fastback displays a Pause button. You cannot choose
this button with your mouse. However, the SPACEBAR and ENTER keys both
activate the Pause button, pausing the backup.

CAUSE
=====

Fastback programs the floppy disk drive controller directly. Using
direct memory addressing (DMA), it writes data to the floppy disk.
During this time, no interrupts can occur. Because keystrokes are
cached and returned on timer clicks, keyboard commands are
interpreted. However, mouse moves are not cached; they are lost during
DMA writes.

RESOLUTION
==========

There is no workaround at this time.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version
3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
