The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Windows NT operating system, version 3.1
 - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

During Windows NT startup, your machine stops responding (hangs) with
a blue screen displaying memory addresses and values. If you wait long
enough, the QIC device driver reports a failure to initialize the
device.

CAUSE
=====

The QIC 40 or 80 tape drive fails to initialize because of the
hardware configuration.

RESOLUTION
==========

Make sure the QIC tape drive is attached to your computer's native
floppy disk drive controller, not a proprietary floppy controller. If
this does not solve the problem, contact your vendor for more
information.
